It was a magical contract, after all - after he finished signing it, it glowed brightly, the letters illuminated, and then it merely "popped" - one copy, one original. Magical objects always had to have an extra bit of drama.

"Well, the first thought I had," which should be a warning in of itself, "Was inviting them to a small wedding inside your mansion. Where I'll be living until Granny accepts the marriage."

No issues, right?

He frowned but he couldn't object to it. He had signed the contract after all. He just didn't like the idea that she'd be living in his mansion and inside the wards and protective spells designed to keep magical foes out.

"That sounds reasonable. So do we go through with the ceremony or stage a 'break up' once your grandmother accepts that we were intending to get married?" He tapped his fingers on his desk. "If we go through with the ceremony, we could get an annulment once she's satisfied we've tied the knot but it's a bit messy legally."

"Oh, who cares about mess?" She waved a dismissive hand. "It's not like you and I ever plan to marry anyone else for real. Once Granny accepts it and the contract is fulfilled, we annul as quickly as possible and I go back to stealing what should be mine."

Scrooge's beak curled slightly with distaste. "Stop saying things like that. It'll only make it harder for me to fake actually being attracted to you."

A roll of her eyes. "Fine, how do you expect me to act?" She then fluttered her eyelashes, hands together. "Oooh, Scroogie-woogie, you're just the best, lammiekins!"

He gagged. "That's even worse!" He scowled. "No talk about how you're attempting to cheat your way into wealth from either side. We keep it civil."

She straightened up, back to normal. "I suppose we can manage that, at the very least."

"Good. So when do we send out the invitations for the wedding?" he asked dryly. "And I'll need to tell my family what's going on to keep up the illusion."

The last thing this arrangement needed was the boys and Webby constantly flooding Magica with garlic.

Magica wanted this done with as soon as possible, so she thought she came up with the best solution.

"I can have Ratface fly out invites right away, and we can marry tonight."

He shook his head. "I need to talk to my family first so they don't try to break things up. Do you want your grandmother convinced or not?"

He tapped his foot in thought. "Let's set the date for the end of the week. Gives us time to make sure everyone gets their invites and for my family to get the story straight."

Ugh, him and his family.

"Fine," she grumbled, crossing her arms and tapping her foot. "It's just for three people anyway. Granny, Rosolio, and Minima." She had few friends in the magical realm, and if she could help it, she didn't want them finding about this.

"All right," he told her. "Once the workday's over, I'll go talk to my family about this."

She dropped her broom, and it automatically began to float. She sat sidesaddle, yanking her original version of the contract.

"Guess that means I'm off to grab what I need from home... and break some hearts." A snort.

"I'll see you later then," Scrooge said with a sigh. "Just let me talk to my family first before you try and set up shop at the mansion."

"I heard you about your family already!" Sheesh! Her broom was already making headway to the window.

"Honestly, I'll never get that about you."

"Get what about me?" he asked, confused.

"The whole... family thing." She wiggled her fingers as she said it. "It's like you care about them more than your money." What weird nonsense!

"Wow. What a horrifying idea," he said with bland sarcasm.

She popped open the window, ready to peel out.

"As long as they don't spill the beans, I'll tolerate them."

"Much appreciated," Scrooge grumped. "I'll be home in an hour so give me three hours before you come knocking."

"I'll give you four - so we have extra time to scream into pillows and question why our lives are like this."

See, she can be charitable! Kinda.

"See you later... hubby." With that, she flew out into the blue sky.

Scrooge watched her fly off, grumbling to himself, "You're getting soft, McDuck."

He shuddered and went back to his desk, knowing he likely wasn't going to get much done. Still, he couldn't just go home now. It'd raise too many red flags and the last thing this charade needed were suspicions.

Four hours later...

Magica arrived at McDuck Manor. She sure didn't look like she packed everything - in fact, she had the same purse, same broom, all that was new new was the small bird cage that contained the grumbling Ratface. She tapped the giant iron gates, trying to find the intercom button.

"McDuck, let me in! There better not be any magical blockers here!"

There was a moment of hesitation before the gates swung open. Scrooge had spent the past three hours informing the entire family...and having to convince them that, no, he hadn't gone insane and she hadn't spelled him. He had a terrible migraine from it all.

If it hadn't been for his insistence to go along with the plan, Beakley and Duckworth would've happily "not heard" the intercom.

So far, so good. With a heavy sigh, she headed right for the front doors - with little envious glances at the large mansion, garden, everything she wanted for herself. She tried to swallow down her greed and look at it another way - one day, when she had the Midas Touch, she had to buy things that were bigger and better than this! Yes, this was a lesson plan on how to live her future.

At least she had the decency to knock. "Hush, Ratface. They'll let you fly around... probably."
