There was a record scratch in his head as he listened to Granny.

"I'm sorry, but did you say that you already invited her?" he asked.

Given what Magica had told him, this had the potential to cause a disaster.

"Of course!" Granny said oh-so-cheerfully. "Right after Magica left!"

"Because you knew I'd stop you if I was there." Magica said under her breath.

Oh gods, this plan was already off-the-rails and they had a week to go.

Magica was going to owe him big time.

"When do you think she'll be here? If she decides to come?" he asked. "We have plenty of space but it's more polite to have a room ready for a guest instead of making them wait while everything is being prepared."

She was well-aware and hated this fact.

"Well, I did tell her when the wedding was." Granny cupped her chin, trying to think. "She's such a polite girl. Maybe a day or two before to help set things up?"

"If we're lucky." Magica rubbed her temples.

"Oh, well, she won't have much to do to be honest," Scrooge said. "We're keeping things simple."

"I know, I know..." Granny grinned. "But, I was thinking, what if we decorated with-"

"Simple." Magica cut in.

"But what about a whole array of-"

Granny pouted. "Oh, fine. You can be so inventive with those little schemes of yours, but not a blip of imagination with your own wedding. Very well... at least I'll have nice photos of your wedding dress."

Magica waved a hand. "I don't need one. It's just a quick ceremony."

"Perhaps you and Adelia could pick the flowers for the bouquet," Scrooge offered, trying to cut off any outrage about the lack of dress. "We were planning to choose some from the garden."

Thankfully, that did the trick, with Granny clasping her hands together. "Oh, how wonderful! Rosolio, let's go look at the garden, I bet they have such lovely blooms this time of year!" She grabbed his arm to drag him along.

"But, Granny, my allergies...!"

Magica rubbed her temples, groaning. "Sheesh..."

Scrooge sighed as soon as he thought they were well beyond hearing him. "Your family is exhausting."

"You've barely known them an hour. Try living with them since you were six." She echoed a sigh similar to his own.

"I'm glad I didn't have to."

Though now he understood why she'd be so desperate as to beg her worst enemy for help.

She inhaled and exhaled deeply.

"Okay... so ask. What do you need to know about them?"

"First off, is there anyone else who might come out of the woodwork?" he asked, grimacing. "The more people, the more complicated this is going to get."

She shook her head. "No, this is it. Everyone else is either dead, or hate my guts." To be honest, she had no idea why Granny and the others showered her with love and praise.

"Charming. Second, what room were you planning to put Granny in? I thought you'd want them relatively close by you."

"It'd be preferable not to be close to anyone. When she snores, she accidentally releases bursts of uncontrollable magic. That's why I need to put a spell on the door to protect us all."

"...Would the end of the hall do?" he asked, grimacing. He'd rather not have the entire house come down.

He was also very glad that the guest wing and the family wing were quite far from one another.

A quick nod. "That'll work. And keep anything feathery away from Rosolio. He's allergic to Ratface most of all - and when he sneezes, he lets out dragon-fire."

Scrooge groaned, rubbing his temples. "What about Minima and Adelia? Any accidental destructive triggers I should know about?"

Thankfully she shook her head. "No, Minima will probably become a great sorceress when she comes of age... she's just... well, a child. So she doesn't think of consequences. And Adelia is also in control of her magic... a true waste of potential." A fairy, why would you???

"Barely a brain in any of them, though. That's why they don't suspect a thing."

"I don't know if I should be grateful considering they likely wouldn't cause too much trouble in general or pity," Scrooge said dryly.

"Stick to grateful." Magica never understood pity, nor did she care for it. "Just keep them distracted, and this will be over before we know it."

Scrooge nodded. Once the ceremony was over, Magica's grandmother would accept the marriage...right?

Some part of him had a sneaking suspicion that things were going along too smoothly, that there was another shoe waiting to drop.

It was time for lunch, and both families gathered together. Minima was getting along with the other children, more or less, and Rosolio slumped into his seat, with a handful of flowers that he continued to play "she loves me, she loves me not" with.

Granny was the last to arrive, and within seconds was bringing hell. "Who wants to see Magica's baby pictures?"

Magica fell out of her seat. "NOBODY!"

Scrooge opened his mouth to answer that he was interested but paused at the sight of Rosolio, eyes locked on the flowers.

"Where did you get those peonies from?" he asked, a feeling of dread rising within him.
