She sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Then this is really going to be a difficult week. Unless you want me to tell her, she's going to keep dropping 'hints'... it doesn't matter how many times I've told her I don't want children. She only cares about what she thinks is best for everyone."

"I'll tell her," Scrooge said, dreading that moment already. "And if she gets on me about it, well, I can always say that you knew and you were satisfied with not having children."

Another moment of silence, followed by words Magica rarely said to anyone, let alone Scrooge McDuck of all people.

Scrooge looked at her before offering a strained smile.

"It's not like you hexed me, lass. I've known about this for quite a while."

"Yeah, well... I knew ahead of time what Granny was like, so I should've done my homework and made sure something like this wouldn't happen." She looked away. "This is supposed to be my humiliation, not yours."

"You're only the fifth person who knows about this other than me," he told her. "And two of those four other people are dead. If you somehow found out ahead of time, I'd be incredibly shocked."

"I do stalk you on the daily," she reminded him. "Still..." She rolled her eyes up, trying to think. "If you'd like, there is a way to get back at the old biddy."

"I try not to think about that part too hard," Scrooge said dryly. However..."What did you have in mind?"

"That happy-go-lucky idiot is positive about everything and anything. But the one area she has no control over... is her hair." She then flashed a wicked grin. "That blonde comes in a can."

"I'd wondered," he said with a smirk. "So, separate her from the can or replace it with a different color?"

"Aren't you supposed to be sharper than the sharpies?" She teased. "Work your own magic with that brain of yours."

"I don't know where she stashes her hair color," he pointed out. "For all I know, her carpet bag is able to carry an entire floor lamp with room to spare."

"In addition to her snoring, she sleepwalks once per night. I can open her door, if you ask nicely." But she'd probably do it anyway.

"Oh gods. Please tell me she doesn't do both at the same time."

Because opening the door and letting her sleepwalk around setting things on fire would not be good.

She made a wavey motion with her hand. "Not always..."

"We need a different plan. I'd rather not risk the entire house burning down."

[lifesa_witch]

"I suppose you could sneak in while she's awake, and bothering the rest of the house."

"...That'll work." He paused. "Unless..."

He put a hand to his chin before a slow smile crept across his face.

"The kids have been on such good behavior, don't you think? I think they deserve a treat."

She quietly began to chuckle, crossing her arms. "Dare I ask?"

"Probably for the best to have plausible deniability. I aim to ask for as little details as possible."

She mimed zipping her lips before turning around. "Very well. Guess that means I should take my leave, before I really become an accomplice."

"Sounds good." He tilted his head back. "I'm just gonna enjoy the night for a bit longer before I turn in."

"Goodnight, Scrooge." With one little wave, she walked out.

To think... the great adventurer and conqueror was brought to his worst by that, of all things? Perhaps she'd taken her own body for granted - she had never wanted children, but she supposed someone taking away that choice for her would have pissed her off too. Perhaps magic could cure such a thing, but he was rather old for fatherhood now. He'd probably made peace, albeit bitterly, with what he lost.

In the end, there was at least one thing his riches couldn't buy. It was something to think about.

Scrooge, on the other hand, had always wanted kids. There'd been no time when he'd been amassing his vast fortune, him wanting to be absolutely sure that he'd be financially secure enough to make sure they never went through the suffering he had. Seeing his sister waddling about with twins in her belly had driven home that if he wanted children, he needed to start looking for a solution. (A wife was out for what woman would want him for anything but his money? However, a surrogate mother who was paid to carry his children and then cleanly cut ties afterwards worked just fine.)

He put his head in his hands after he was fairly certain that Magica had disappeared.
