He put a hand to his chin before a slow smile crept across his face.

"The kids have been on such good behavior, don't you think? I think they deserve a treat."

She quietly began to chuckle, crossing her arms. "Dare I ask?"

"Probably for the best to have plausible deniability. I aim to ask for as little details as possible."

She mimed zipping her lips before turning around. "Very well. Guess that means I should take my leave, before I really become an accomplice."

"Sounds good." He tilted his head back. "I'm just gonna enjoy the night for a bit longer before I turn in."

"Goodnight, Scrooge." With one little wave, she walked out.

To think... the great adventurer and conqueror was brought to his worst by that, of all things? Perhaps she'd taken her own body for granted - she had never wanted children, but she supposed someone taking away that choice for her would have pissed her off too. Perhaps magic could cure such a thing, but he was rather old for fatherhood now. He'd probably made peace, albeit bitterly, with what he lost.

In the end, there was at least one thing his riches couldn't buy. It was something to think about.

Scrooge, on the other hand, had always wanted kids. There'd been no time when he'd been amassing his vast fortune, him wanting to be absolutely sure that he'd be financially secure enough to make sure they never went through the suffering he had. Seeing his sister waddling about with twins in her belly had driven home that if he wanted children, he needed to start looking for a solution. (A wife was out for what woman would want him for anything but his money? However, a surrogate mother who was paid to carry his children and then cleanly cut ties afterwards worked just fine.)

He put his head in his hands after he was fairly certain that Magica had disappeared.

How was it that it still hurt thirty years later?

Another night ended, another day closer to the wedding. Magica wasn't certain what Scrooge had planned for the kids and Granny, but she was sure to be entertained. As a result, instead of staying holed up all day in her room as she planned, she found herself wandering the mansion, Ratface on her shoulder.

It turned out that the kids could be very, very creative when given permission to prank someone within certain limits.

When Scrooge came home from work, he had to mentally wonder if they'd gotten Minima involved in this. Not only was Granny's hair dyed something other than blonde, it was a literal rainbow on her head with glitter.

"...Good evening, everyone," he said, shaking a little from suppressed laughter.

"WHAT'S GO GOOD ABOUT IT?!" Granny wailed, surrounded by dozens of tissues, having bawled her eyes out over and over.

Magica was grinning from ear to ear. "Now now, Granny, maybe this will teach you to keep your door closed..." Even Ratface was gleefully snickering.

"I'm sure it will come right out," Scrooge said, shoving a hand in his pocket so he could clench it into a fist to hopefully keep the laughter under control.

Granny wailed louder, without any signs of comprehension on her part.

Magica smirked at the rugrats. "Keep that up, and the bad mood might spread... maybe to prevent it, we should all have dessert early."

The kids all beamed.

"I wouldn't want supper to go to waste," Scrooge said, taking a moment to bite the inside of his cheek as he saw what looked like an earplug in Beakley's ear as she continued to (some would argue "heartlessly") dust the foyer. "But I don't see a problem with perhaps a bit extra for dessert."

"Fine, I suppose we can compromise on that." Magica turned away, heading off. "In that case, let's get a head start on supper."

The kids began to follow, as did a continuously sobbing Granny - except for Huey, who tried to signal Scrooge to come closer for a private conversation.

Scrooge did as beckoned. "What's the problem, lad?"

Huey waited until the room was empty before approaching his uncle. "Well, as official wedding coordinator - " he wasn't, he'd given the job to himself, "I'd just thought you could use a reminder - and keep in mind how amazingly uncomfortable it is to give this advice to my own uncle - that you will have to kiss that woman on the big day."

He jabbed a thumb behind him. "You might wanna discuss that with her, so you both don't wind up making faces like you're going to hurl when it's time."

Scrooge didn't object to the self-proclaimed title. If it made Huey feel more in control, then so be it. At least someone would feel like they were in control.

However, the lad had a point, and he grimaced.

"I hadn't thought of that." He sighed and rubbed his temples. "That woman is going to owe me at least a year of leaving me alone after this."

"She won't." Helpful as ever, that Huey.

"Might want to throw in some dancing lessons too. Granny De Spell is definitely the traditional type, so she'll probably want to see your first dance as 'husband and wife'." He emphasized with finger quotes.

Scrooge groaned. "I'll bring it up with her. At this rate, I'm going to have the biggest migraine ever on my 'wedding day'."

Huey glanced back at where everyone had run off. "If I can ask... is this really worth it?"

"I have no idea," he answered honestly, "but I'm in too deep to back out now."

"Are you sure? What's the worst that could happen? Magica won't kill you, if only for her spell on the dime to work." He shrugged.

"Trust me, Huey, there are things much, much worse than death. Death is actually quite kind."

"... Is this a life lesson or did you actually meet Death?"

"Eh, little bit of both," Scrooge said, waving his hand carelessly.
