Pass the test, t-taste the flesh (scrooge x magica)
One of the disadvantages of immortal youth was that it sometimes limited her options. If she wanted something fresh and young, she needed to be where the fresh and young people where, and gods, their music was awful. What happened to the good old days of violins and organs?
So imagine her surprise as she viewed the buffet to find one snack that looked older than most. She raised an eyebrow - he didn't seem to be in any midlife crisis. The exact opposite, in fact - like if he had any real choice, he wouldn't be here. Well... she could fix that for him.
She licked her lips, and then made her way across the room. A gorgeous beauty like her, it was like parting the ocean waves with a hand. She was by his side within seconds, sizing him up.
Nice, very nice. He even smelled delicious.
"Congratulations, you're the most miserable person here, and I think that includes the janitor."

Still, he snuggled her, ruffling her hair with his beak.

She began to hum her dark melody.

He was almost feeling a...more contented...form of normal when his cell phone started ringing.
"...No, no, no..." he groaned, getting up to go for the phone.
no subject
"What is it?"
no subject
The voice on the other end was speaking in German, and it took him a moment to mentally switch. He listened carefully, hearing the agitation and hating life in general.

His headache intensified again as he gave sharp orders to the person on the other end of the phone. Then he snapped it shut and sighed, mentally switching back to English.
"I'm sorry. I've got to go to the office."
no subject
"Go ahead. Don't let me hold you up."

He climbed off the bed, looking down and away.
"I'll see you in two weeks?" he asked, his tone flat and hopeless.
(She was going to reject him. He'd messed up. He always messed up.)
no subject
"If you bring the phone next time, you can expect it dunked in my wine."
no subject
Surely he'd heard wrong. He'd made a mistake. He wasn't supposed to be allowed back in someone's life after he'd messed up.
no subject
"Don't tell me your precious little device is worth more than our time!" Was that why he was so stunned, because she'd threatened his stupid phone?
no subject
"You'll let me come back?"
She knew his history. She knew that when he screwed up, people left him.

A sick part of her was very happy.
She slid off the bed, and came to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes, darling. You can always come back to me."

"I'll never abandon you. No matter what you say, no matter what you do." She murmured to his ear.
