Pass the test, t-taste the flesh (scrooge x magica)

One of the disadvantages of immortal youth was that it sometimes limited her options. If she wanted something fresh and young, she needed to be where the fresh and young people where, and gods, their music was awful. What happened to the good old days of violins and organs?

So imagine her surprise as she viewed the buffet to find one snack that looked older than most. She raised an eyebrow - he didn't seem to be in any midlife crisis. The exact opposite, in fact - like if he had any real choice, he wouldn't be here. Well... she could fix that for him.

She licked her lips, and then made her way across the room. A gorgeous beauty like her, it was like parting the ocean waves with a hand. She was by his side within seconds, sizing him up.

Nice, very nice. He even smelled delicious.

"Congratulations, you're the most miserable person here, and I think that includes the janitor."

And very early the next morning, he carefully started extricating himself from her. Not that he wanted to get up (he definitely didn't) but if he wanted to get all this over with, he needed to get up and get moving.

He regretted that.

Again, it was so astoundingly early that Magica bolted right up when he felt him move. "Ugh...!"

"Sorry," he told her. "Go back to sleep, my dear."

She shook her head, eyes spinning. "Easier said than done..."

She didn't look well. He instinctively placed his hand against her forehead, remembering belatedly that if she somehow had a fever, he likely wouldn't be able to tell.

"Are you all right?"

"Just a little hungry, darling." She laid back down, not wanting to worry him. "I'll be all right."

His mind flitted through the possibilities.

"When I get back, I'll order some protein for dinner. Then you can have a meal," he told her. "I don't want you starving, and a steak should help replenish me afterwards."

She glanced over - was feeding her the only way to feed himself? Well, she wouldn't say no to that.

"A nice little dinner date. I like it."

It would certainly help. Particularly given it gave him an added incentive to take better care of himself even if the food tasted like ash in his mouth.

He gave her a small smile. "Then it's a date."

She'd have to remember that for the future if he neglected himself again. She hugged one of the pillows, batting her eyelashes. "I'll be looking forward to it."

He gave her a soft smile before he went to finish getting dressed. Well, at least there was that. Even if no one else could've cared less, she was looking forward to seeing him after work.

"I'll try to come back as soon as I can but I might be late again."

"Don't forget to take care of yourself." Though she knew he wouldn't, frustrating as it was. An all-powerful creature of the night couldn't make an old man stop to eat some toast.

"I'll do my best."

At least he'd get another muffin from the front desk, right?

"Have a good day, love."

She meant to say darling, and didn't seem to hear the slip as she closed her eyes, intending to nap.

Love. She'd called him "love".

He shouldn't be too excited. It wasn't going to last forever.

...But she'd called him "love"...

When she didn't hear footsteps and the door closing, she opened one eye. "Scrooge?" Wasn't he going to be late?

"Sorry." He shook his head and cast her a fond smile over his shoulder. "I got lost in my head. I'll be off now."

Magica raised an eyebrow, wondering what that was about, but didn't care enough to truly investigate. She closed her eyes again, ready to snooze. "Be well."

"I will."

With that, he headed out, grabbing another "to go" breakfast bag from the front desk. It probably tasted delicious but it might as well have been ash in his mouth.

She wanted him to take care of himself though. He was going to try for as long as she chose to stay around.

Eventually she got up to stretch, trying to find a way to kill time. Flying did the trick for a while, but eventually she decided that she might as well use this time for something that would be actually useful.

Of all things, this wound up being her purchasing and studying cookbooks.

As Scrooge entered the hotel, he was about ready to pass out. It was late, extremely so, and he almost forgot his promise of ordering something for dinner so she could eat. However, he paused at the front desk, requesting a meal be sent up to his room as quickly as possible, before heading to the elevator.

Almost back. Almost safe again...

When the door opened, Magica raised her head, placing her book aside. Judging from yesterday, he'd need a good hold and to lay down as soon as possible.

"Scrooge?"

"Aye. Tired but I'm all right." He gave her a weak smile. "I asked that dinner be brought up. And I even managed to get in a banana for lunch."

It wasn't much but it was something?

She almost rolled her eyes. One banana. How was he even alive?

She came to him and held him. "One day I fear I'll hold you and you'll break apart into pieces."

"I'm going to fix it," he told her, leaning into her embrace. "For you."

Because she cared. Even if only for a little while.
