 One of the disadvantages of immortal youth was that it sometimes limited her options. If she wanted something fresh and young, she needed to be where the fresh and young people where, and gods, their music was awful. What happened to the good old days of violins and organs?

So imagine her surprise as she viewed the buffet to find one snack that looked older than most. She raised an eyebrow - he didn't seem to be in any midlife crisis. The exact opposite, in fact - like if he had any real choice, he wouldn't be here. Well... she could fix that for him.

She licked her lips, and then made her way across the room. A gorgeous beauty like her, it was like parting the ocean waves with a hand. She was by his side within seconds, sizing him up.

Nice, very nice. He even smelled delicious.

"Congratulations, you're the most miserable person here, and I think that includes the janitor."

Scrooge remembered times when he'd felt at peace: surrounded by family and friends, napping with one or both twins sleeping with him when they were little...

He breathed in her scent, trying to shove the memories back into the locked chest in his head where they belonged.

She could see the pain in his face, and gently touched his cheek. "Stay with me, darling, stay here."

"I'm trying. Really, I am," he told her apologetically.

But the real world kept knocking at his door and that box of bittersweet memories refused to stay locked and buried.

She turned his head towards her to give him a kiss. "I know you are. I'll pull you back each and every time."

He hugged her tightly, kissing her back and closing his eyes. He focused on her scent, the whisper of her hair brushing against her shoulders, the feel of her body against his...

She kissed him over and over, trying to make him stay in the present. She cupped his cheeks, sighing on his lips in-between breathes.

Finally, he relaxed as the real world once more returned to lurking in the background. He could focus on her now properly.

"Thank you," he murmured.

She smiled, rubbing her beak into his whiskers with great affection. "I'll always be there for you, darling."

He gave a soft chuckle at that before fluffing her neck feathers with his beak. Each time he heard that, it got a little easier to not just outright dismiss it. He wasn't entirely sure he believed it, but a step forward was a step forward.

She giggled quietly, slightly ticklish. She ran her fingers through his head-feathers, enjoying his playful side. "Mmm..."

He chuckled at her giggle.

"Is the dark creature of the night ticklish?" he teased.

[blackmagicduck]

She smirked, enjoying his reaction. "What happens if I answer that?"

[richestduck]

"Depends on the answer," Scrooge told her, running a finger lightly down her spine.

Oh, that felt good. She grinned at him, with a hint of fang peaking out. "What if I say no?"

"Then I'll have to test my theory to see if you're lying," he told her matter-of-factly.

[blackmagicduck]

"Oh, my." She replied, feigning fear. "And if I say yes?"

[richestduck]

"Then I get to figure out where exactly you're ticklish. For science," he told her, trying to look serious and failing utterly.

She smirked, and made a slow effort to try and get up and away. "I'd better flee."

"Aha~"

He easily grabbed her and held her "prisoner" against his chest. "Now let's see...where to start...?"

"Oh, woe is me." She chuckled, stroking his chest. "Maybe I can find your weakness first."

[richestduck]

"I'm not ticklish," he told her with a smirk. "Trust me, my--" He swallowed the words he'd been about to say and tried again. "--people have tried."

He was going to say family, wasn't he? Best to distract him quickly.

"That doesn't mean you don't have other weakness." She leaned in and licked his neck.

He shivered in delight. "Looking for an opening?"

"Are you complaining?" She flashed a fanged grin.

He shook his head. "No."

Not for this at least. At least she wasn't trying to find a weakness to exploit to break him.
