Immortality tended to get boring. Whether she was booted out of the divine halls or voluntarily left depended on who you asked. As far as Magica De Spell was concerned, the mortals deserved to be in her presence every so often to entertain her. She flitted from village to village, trying to find someone worthy of her time, but alas, her standards were very high.
Then she learned to hear the whispers, the rumors, about a clan that rose from the depths of defeat and refused to stay down. The next head was a strong, determined lad who worked to the bone every day to bring glory to the family name. Curious about such a man, Magica walked along the dirt and the stones to where the man supposedly traveled for his wares. For now, she disguised her presence, allowing herself to be ignored by all living things so she could observe without being seen.
After all, when it came down to it, she wasn't going to hit it if this McDuck wasn't a looker.

He stepped away from Magica, turning back to Autumn Sunrise to start brushing her coat.
"I have work to do."
no subject
"You moron! You fool! You imbecile! I will not be ignored!" She began beating his back with her hands, like a child denied their favorite toy. "No one has ever said no to me, I will not stand for it!"
no subject
Honestly, this woman was making a scene. People were gawping and not because they were admiring Autumn Sunrise.
"Now will you please leave?" he asked with strained politeness. "I'm trying to find a good buyer."
no subject
"YOU WILL RUE THE DAY YOU DID NOT TAKE MY HAND, MCDUCK!"
With a crack of lightning, she was gone, leaving only a sense of dread behind.
no subject
He looked at Autumn Sunshine. "I have a bad feeling about this."
The mare snorted her agreement.

When Scrooge did eventually returned home, dinner was nearly ready, and the silverware was set out. One, two, three, four, five, six, plates...
... Wait. Six?
no subject
As he looked at the silverware, he looked to Hortense. "Is Uncle Jake visiting for dinner?"
"Nope. Matilda took pity on someone."
He groaned, rubbing his temples. "Honestly, I hope this one will at least leave once the night's over."
no subject
He'd only heard it once before, but no doubt Scrooge would find the voice now right behind him very familiar.
no subject
Hortense raised a brow. "Friend of yours?"
"Not even remotely."

Matilda entered the dining room with a stack of plates. "Something wrong, Scroogey?"
Hortense's smirk was a mile wide. "Pull up a chair, Matilda. This is getting good."
no subject
"All that I have is a yearning that someone refuses to ease, and so, I have nothing to my name."
no subject
Hortense started laughing hysterically while Matilda turned dark red with mortification.
"Um...what?" the middle McDuck child squeaked.

It was petty, spiteful, and utterly stupid. It was pure Magica De Spell.
no subject
Well, they probably could now that Scrooge was earning lots of money, but Magica's presence would be that one grain of sand that irritated the oyster into creating a pearl of spite and hate.
no subject
"Besides, you and I both know the quickest, easiest, and most satisfying way to get me out of my feathers."
no subject
"Now, now, Scroogey. We'll work something out," Downy gently scolded as she swept into the room with food. She'd press-ganged Fergus into service carrying another of the dishes.
Fergus frowned as he glanced at Magica. "How long were ye plannin' tae stay?"

"I'm not sleeping with her," Scrooge said flatly.
The clan head sighed. "Then might Ah suggest a compromise?"

no subject
Scrooge sneered at that. "Well, at least we'll have an extra hand around until she gets bored." He then gave Magica a smirk. "If you want me so badly, you'll have to court me to do it."
The last part was meant to be mocking, but it was also meant as a challenge. Magica was used to having her way for everything? Well, she was going to have to do as mortals did and work for what she wanted. And given her entitled attitude, she'd lose interest quickly.
no subject
But, nope, Scrooge had to go ahead and issue her a challenge.
"Are you daring to say that I cannot handle the work a mortal can?" She nearly screeched, hands ready to throttle him. "I who can make the oceans dry with one wave of my hand, I who command the animal kingdom with one look of my eye? Just you watch, you inelegant fool! It will only be a matter of time before you're groveling at my feet for a mere kiss of my lips!"
no subject
Scrooge sat down at his usual spot at the table. Once Magica realized how hard working among mortals could be, she'd be leaving soon enough. There was no chance in any level of Hell that she'd put up with it for long.
no subject
... At least the food was good. If this had been left in her temple, she would have been appeased and given a blessing.
no subject
Still, Downy asked gamely, "More shepherd's pie, dear?"
