 Immortality tended to get boring. Whether she was booted out of the divine halls or voluntarily left depended on who you asked. As far as Magica De Spell was concerned, the mortals deserved to be in her presence every so often to entertain her. She flitted from village to village, trying to find someone worthy of her time, but alas, her standards were very high.

Then she learned to hear the whispers, the rumors, about a clan that rose from the depths of defeat and refused to stay down. The next head was a strong, determined lad who worked to the bone every day to bring glory to the family name. Curious about such a man, Magica walked along the dirt and the stones to where the man supposedly traveled for his wares. For now, she disguised her presence, allowing herself to be ignored by all living things so she could observe without being seen.

After all, when it came down to it, she wasn't going to hit it if this McDuck wasn't a looker.

It was so tempting to just go back to sleep and leave all this nonsense..

... If it wasn't for the sheer contempt in his voice.

Growling, she marched for the door. "I wasn't joking either! Show me where I will wow you!"

He blinked at her current state before turning his head.

"You may want to start by getting dressed first."

Hm? ... Oh, yes. She'd done this so often, it was easy to forget mortals didn't do this.

She crossed her arms under her chest, snorting. "Are you sure you don't want to savor the view a little longer?"

[richestduck]

He turned beet red, not looking directly at her.

"Work naked if you like then, but you'll be sorry."

With that, he marched down the hall, very conspicuously not looking back at her.

She planted a firm image in this head, and as far as she was concerned, it was a step toward her victory.

Still, she wouldn't need all those other men gawking at her more than they already would. What if her beauty provoked a fight? Scrooge would blame her, the ruffian. So as she walked down the hallway, she willed her usual flowing garments onto her body - although it still wasn't really work-friendly.

Matilda met Magica somewhat warily. She'd seen the look on her brother's face and hadn't been sure what to expect. It was almost a relief when she saw Magica in her flowing garments.

"I was going to go out and feed the chickens and milk the cows," she said. "Scroogey with the horses. Daddy used to help him but after he fell on the ice last year, his breathing hasn't been quite right, so he does the finances. Mummy's in the kitchen working on breakfast while Hortense is doing some cleaning. We thought it'd be best if you started off helping me though."

"Why can't I work with Scrooge?" Magica huffed. How was she supposed to tease and entice him if they were apart, until his urges burst and he round up rutting her in the back of the stables?

"You all know he's the reason I'm here."

[richestduck]

"Some of our horses are a bit skittish around strangers. The chicken yard is in view of the paddock, so they'll be able to see and smell you to start getting used to you." She gave a sheepish smile. "I know you can't be killed by normal means, but getting kicked or bitten by a frightened horse isn't something you'd like to experience."

Magica leaned in, curious. This did seem like the weaker one of the siblings, perhaps of the family.

"... I can help you gain any man you want in the village. I can make your beauty a thing of legend, that all animals bow before your very gaze."

[richestduck]

"Thank you, but no. There isn't really anyone in the village who's caught my eye, and I get along with the animals just fine." She gave a smile to Magica. Then she looked over the other's clothing. "Are you...sure...you want to wear that?"

Damn. Stubbornness was in the blood, apparently.

"What I wear is merely an extension of my power." Magica waved those concerns away. "I can handle any mortal work."

[richestduck]

"Okay. If you insist."

Well, whatever happened to Magica next was on her. Because unlike in the palaces of the gods, animals weren't the cleanest creatures to be around. Her gauzy clothes and bare feet were almost guaranteed to get messy.

She grabbed the bucket of chicken feed that they'd be spreading for the birds.

"Follow me."

Magica was so focused on the end goal that she couldn't even think about any problems she'd have in the present.

Which was unfortunate, since there were... a lot of problems.

Stepping in mess - fine. She could take a bath later.
Clothes getting dirty - they were an extension of her will, easily changed.
All the peckings, the angry hens chasing her, the disgusting things she had to touch on a cow - the angry screams she made could be heard all across the village.

Scrooge answered the shrieking with cackling of his own. Oh, this was rich. The goddess was learning the hard way just what it was like to be mortal and it wasn't as easy as she'd thought it would be.

Magica would be gone by lunchtime.

Lunch was served...

... and Magica was still there. Angry, covered in filth, flies swarming her hair, her dress torn in several places... but still there. (And, as is the nature of gods and goddesses, still very beautiful despite it all.)

"You purposely made sure I got the hardest jobs." Magica hissed when she first spotted Scrooge.

"I don't exactly smell like a bed of roses myself," Scrooge pointed out with a smirk.

He was covered in dirt and sweat from working with the horses, fixing fence lines, and so on. He'd put in quite a hard day's work already, and he still had plenty left to do.

Any witty retort in Magica's brain was put on hold. When women smelled after work, it tended to be a little gross. But the smell of a man after a hard day's effort, especially with the sweat rolling down his well-toned muscles?

Magica flicked a bit of dirt off of her shoulder, sneering. "The exhaustion you feel now will be nothing compared to how you'll wear yourself out in my bed chambers." Clearly, she wasn't going anywhere.

"We're eating!" Hortense complained.

Scrooge glared sourly at her before shoveling a bit of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

"Blame him." Magica sniffed, still feeling she was in the right.

[richestduck]

"Nobody is keeping you here!" Scrooge snapped.

Fergus slammed a fist on the table. "ENOUGH!"

The three adult children all cringed. They weren't afraid of their father as a general rule, but the anger of a parent was something every child liked to avoid.

Magica wasn't so easily cowed. After all, gods and goddesses didn't have family, so this connection was foreign to her.

She crossed her arms and looked away with a huff. Mortals were supposed to obey the gods, so if things went sour for their disobedience, it was their own fault.

[richestduck]

Downy cleared her throat. "If you'd like to help me in the kitchen for dinner, you might find that more to your liking. Or you could help Hortense with the garden."

She could likely see herself killing Hortense at this rate. "I may try a hand at cooking. I doubt it will be much of a strain."

[richestduck]

"Wonderful!" Downy said cheerfully. "It'll be nice to have an extra set of hands!"

Another huff. Once lunch was over, she followed the old woman, longing for a warm lavender bath while attendants cleaned her up. "I don't suppose there'd be anything a divine being could offer you in exchange for your help with your son."
