Immortality tended to get boring. Whether she was booted out of the divine halls or voluntarily left depended on who you asked. As far as Magica De Spell was concerned, the mortals deserved to be in her presence every so often to entertain her. She flitted from village to village, trying to find someone worthy of her time, but alas, her standards were very high.
Then she learned to hear the whispers, the rumors, about a clan that rose from the depths of defeat and refused to stay down. The next head was a strong, determined lad who worked to the bone every day to bring glory to the family name. Curious about such a man, Magica walked along the dirt and the stones to where the man supposedly traveled for his wares. For now, she disguised her presence, allowing herself to be ignored by all living things so she could observe without being seen.
After all, when it came down to it, she wasn't going to hit it if this McDuck wasn't a looker.

Ludwig was a god. He'd be fine.
Scrooge then smiled at his customers. "So, who's interested in a new horse?"
no subject
But to Scrooge's benefit, he did manage to sell all the horses. One customer even mentioned that "having such a funny show" beforehand was so relaxing!

He looked to see Magica returning, looking tired. "Just in time! I'm almost done here!"
no subject
"Did you sell all of them?"

"Very well. What would you have me do now?"

With one extra person, their stores needed to be adjusted.

The walk to the castle was in the cool of the early evening. Scrooge had no issues carrying his load, him being quite used to the work. It was always good to be home, even if he hadn't been away for that long.

Scrooge had to admit he was impressed with his mother.
Hortense poked her head into the kitchen. "Don't look now, but Matilda's brought in another stray."
"We can't keep feeding moochers," Scrooge grumbled.
"Scroogey, Magica is being very helpful. And one extra mouth to feed fer the night will be no trouble."
"Yes, Mummy."

"I'd prefer a cat," Scrooge said. "We need a good barn cat."
He followed his sister out to where Matilda was tending to a head injury on a very familiar person...

And stopped dead in her tracks when she saw him. "... Oh, COME ON. I dragged him at least thirty miles out of town!" She rolled up her sleeves, ready to finish the job.
As for the victim himself, he seemed to be coming to, at least marginally. "... This is not where I once was. Most curious!"
no subject
"He was driving away customers. Besides, he's a god. He's fine."
"...what?"
no subject
Magica began to summon up a bigger, thicker piece of plywood. "Give me thirty seconds."
no subject
Matilda blinked, still highly confused by the situation. "M-Matilda McDuck. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."
no subject
Ludwig continued shaking Matilda's hand, seeing no reason to stop. "So you're the one who aided me then? You have my most sincere gratitude! You must have considerable strength to have taken me all this way! Most impressive! Mortals continue to amaze me in every little way! I owe you a debt, should you ever wish to take it! My powers are limited, but I always keep my word..."
So began his babbling...

Scrooge snickered. About time someone else got a taste of that.
no subject
Ludwig slowly nodded.

Hortense laughed.
Matilda blushed. "He's not all bad. Just...excitable."
"That's a word for it," Hortense cracked.
