 Immortality tended to get boring. Whether she was booted out of the divine halls or voluntarily left depended on who you asked. As far as Magica De Spell was concerned, the mortals deserved to be in her presence every so often to entertain her. She flitted from village to village, trying to find someone worthy of her time, but alas, her standards were very high.

Then she learned to hear the whispers, the rumors, about a clan that rose from the depths of defeat and refused to stay down. The next head was a strong, determined lad who worked to the bone every day to bring glory to the family name. Curious about such a man, Magica walked along the dirt and the stones to where the man supposedly traveled for his wares. For now, she disguised her presence, allowing herself to be ignored by all living things so she could observe without being seen.

After all, when it came down to it, she wasn't going to hit it if this McDuck wasn't a looker.

Not only was she surprised by that, she was also surprised in how much she was enjoying this... boring conversation. It was standard business for her, so why was it so... nice? She couldn't put her finger on it.

"Precisely. But I can't say I've ever heard of a god who created through dreams... but at the same time, I can't say I know all the gods." A dismissive hand wave. "Most of them are so annoying. That's why I spend more time here on the mortal plane."

"For more than just seducing innocent farm boys, I'll wager," he teased.

Why did such a cute mouth have to keep ruining things by being open?

"Oi, I'll have you know they're way worse. Many of them would use their powers to manipulate your mind for pleasure! I'd never stoop so low."

[richestduck]

"For that I actually respect you," Scrooge said bluntly. "If you'd wanted, you could've won our 'bet' the first night, but you're taking the hard road."

Magica considered taking the compliment - for half a moment.

"It wouldn't be any fun. Besides... I doubt there's much in that head to mess with."

[richestduck]

He snorted, bending his head back over the saddle as he resumed oiling it.

"I'm no Ludwig, but I think you'd be surprised."

[lifesa_witch]

"Nobody is like Ludwig, and we should all be grateful for that." Magica turned the broom right side up to resume sweeping. "No accounting for Matilda's taste."

[richestduck]

"He's certainly different than everyone else around here. Matilda's not without suitors, but none of them's caught her eye." He paused. "How well do you know Ludwig?"

"I've known him all my life. He thinks I'm interesting." Her own pause. "Obviously I am, but he doesn't go into specifics."

[richestduck]

He rolled his eyes but kept the rude comment to himself. "Would you classify him as one of those gods who would...manipulate...to get what he wanted?"

Because if he was, gold or no gold, god or no god, Scrooge would need to kick Ludwig's tailfeathers.

Magica blinked. She knew what he was asking, and tried to imagine it... and wound up laughing so hard she nearly busted a gut, holding her stomach.

"As if!" She finally breathed between cackles. "She could strip down naked and he'd just want to study her anatomy!"

After a few more gulps of air... "Seriously, he'd never. It'd ruin his research."

Scrooge gave a sigh of relief. "That's the impression I got, but you've known him for longer."

And it meant something that he'd not only asked her but he trusted her judgment on the matter. His sisters were precious to him.

Magica was so wrapped up in giggles that she hadn't noticed the serious amount of trust in him. Truly, it was just too funny!

"He is one of the few gods who's never hit on me, so I suppose that's a plus. Only a handful haven't... Quackmore ever so delicately told me I'd probably snap like a twig underneath him." A big eyeroll. "All I'd asked him was what time it was."

"Quackmore? You mean the god of war?" Scrooge asked, vaguely recognizing the name. He paused. "Or at least one of them?"

[lifesa_witch]

"The god of war." She emphasized. "Of battle, of bloodlust, of the whole disgusting lot. An awful temper, a giant ego... no matter how badly you think of me, I pray you never have to meet him!"

[richestduck]

"Sounds absolutely delightful," he deadpanned. "And with a little luck we'll not be having more divine visits. I'm not sure the area could take more gods."

Magica looked to the sky, as of wary of any more gods visiting right that second. "I suppose if we were damned to have him stop by... it wouldn't be for long. This place is boringly peaceful, and he loves trouble. He'd probably find it too dull and move along without too much fuss."

She couldn't imagine anything here that was worth Quackmore's attention.

Scrooge could. And the second he thought of it -- or rather whom -- he winced.

"Here's hoping you didn't just curse us," he muttered.

"It's your fault if I did," Magica sniffed, as always refusing to admit her faults. But really, there were no soldiers here, no wild animals tearing up the woods, what could gain his interest?

Maybe she'd been overthinking too much. Yes, things were peaceful here, even with the additional annoyance of Ludwig.

Unfortunately, the peace would be shattered almost right on cue.

"Of all the $#%@^@!!!"

Scrooge looked over to where Hortense swore unintelligibly, carrying baskets of groceries with Matilda towards the castle. Both's clothes were splashed in mud.

Magica blinked, having grown reluctantly used to Hortense's crudeness. "Why do two look like you went dancing in the rain?"

Hortense scowled as Matilda said, "We got splashed by a carriage."

"Look at me! I'm Lord Whiskerville! I've been blessed by the goddess Who-Gives-a-@#$%!" Hortense mockingly imitated.

Scrooge scowled unhappily at the name.

"Lord Whiskerville?" Magica repeated, wondering why they knew this noble. "Is he some sort of thorn in your side?"

[richestduck]

Scrooge sighed. "Clan McDuck used to be the ruling clan in this area. However, one of our ancestors nearly-bankrupted us. The castle is still ours as is this bit of surrounding land, but Clan Whiskerville runs the town and most of what used to be Clan McDuck's lands. And they never let us forget it."

Magica leaned in, eyebrows raised. "I could give him plenty of bad luck and misfortune...?"

Obviously, in exchange for sleeping with her. She doubted he'd take up the offer, but it was worth a shot.
