 Immortality tended to get boring. Whether she was booted out of the divine halls or voluntarily left depended on who you asked. As far as Magica De Spell was concerned, the mortals deserved to be in her presence every so often to entertain her. She flitted from village to village, trying to find someone worthy of her time, but alas, her standards were very high.

Then she learned to hear the whispers, the rumors, about a clan that rose from the depths of defeat and refused to stay down. The next head was a strong, determined lad who worked to the bone every day to bring glory to the family name. Curious about such a man, Magica walked along the dirt and the stones to where the man supposedly traveled for his wares. For now, she disguised her presence, allowing herself to be ignored by all living things so she could observe without being seen.

After all, when it came down to it, she wasn't going to hit it if this McDuck wasn't a looker.

"For starters, go get lost," Hortense said bluntly.

Quackmore clutched his chest - and looked darn happy about it. "Her words are as sharp as her strikes! I've really discovered a great treasure... Would it be too much to ask how good your kicks are?"

Magica quickly began to walk past them. "Nope, I don't wanna see where this goes."

"I do," Matilda said.

Scrooge blinked in his sweeter-tempered sister's direction, Matilda smiling innocently.

"Happy to oblige." Hortense swung her foot forwards.

And if Quackmore still managed to sire any children after the strike, it would be a miracle.

Another solid, swift K.O., with Quackmore flopping on the ground, tears in his eyes. "So... good.."

Magica headed for the kitchen, wondering if this place had any decent booze to deal with this nonsense.

"Good morning, dear!" Downy greeted, her rolling out dough for pie later.

Magica glanced her way. It seemed almost cruel to tell her that her youngest daughter had gotten a masochistic suitor.

"... Good morning." She glanced away. "Any way I can help out here?"

[richestduck]

"Always! I was going to fry up some eggs and sausage this morning."

Downy was arguably the fastest to have accepted Magica fully into the household.

Magica just wanted to stay away from the idiocy at the door, so she took the excuse and ran with it. "Simple enough. Just give me the tasks and I'll perform them."

[richestduck]

"All right then. Head to the hen house for some eggs. Ah donnae know where Hortense has gotten herself off to, but she hasnae brought the eggs in yet."

"She's a tad... distracted at the moment." Magica said, passing by a window where she was hoping she wasn't seeing A) Hortense digging her heel into Quackmore's back and B) Quackmore loving every second of it.

"I'll be back shortly."

[richestduck]

Scrooge and Matilda watched this odd courtship stoically, knowing that Hortense would only stop if (A) she got bored, (B) she got hungry, or (C) Quackmore decided to leave.

"Who'd have thought the god of war was a masochist?" Matilda mused aloud.

C wasn't likely to happen, so long as Hortense continued to indulge him.

Magica was quick to walk past the scene, pretending it wasn't happening, so she could grab the eggs and come back before Downy had any reason to look outside. She didn't want the dear old woman seeing... all that.

The good news was that Downy didn't see it.

Fergus, however, did.

The old man looked at Magica, face frowning in disapproval. "Is there nae a single god with a wit o' sense in yer entire Realm?"

Magica snootily held up her beak, really seeing and hearing Scrooge in his father's face and voice right now. "I don't have a single answer that would satisfy you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm making a meal."

Fergus gave a snort before leaning his head out the door and bellowing, his voice echoing across the grounds and through the castle, "SCROOGE, MATILDA, HORTENSE, STOP LOLLYGAGGIN' ABOUT!"

The three siblings immediately left Quackmore behind...though not before Hortense got one last stomp in, making sure to aim for as sensitive a spot as she could manage.

Quackmore gave out a pleased whine, as if he was the world's happiest kicked puppy. He probably wouldn't be able to move for a while.

Magica headed back to the kitchen with the basket of eggs. "Here you are."

"Thank ye, dearie." She already had a pan out and a large blood sausage was sitting on the cutting board. "Slice up the sausage for me. We'll use the fat to cook the eggs and toast after the sausage."

She barely glanced up at Fergus's bellowing.

"My, my, what's gotten into the children today?" she asked breezily.

"Best not to think about it." Magica muttered as she grabbed a knife. "Besides, I know you don't want me around either."

[richestduck]

"What gave ye that impression?" Downy asked, genuinely curious. "Ye're a bit daft but a good sort."

[lifesa_witch]

"... Calling me daft, for starters..." This family really didn't pull any punches.

[richestduck]

"Oh, lassie, that doesnae mean I donnae want ye around. Ye've adapted well to our way o' livin' which cannae be easy fer ye." She smiled brightly as she held her hand out over the pan to see how hot it was getting. "And ye've got good taste if ye fancy my son!"

"Of course." Magica sniffed, taking the compliment, since she knew it was true. "But you have to know I'm not here for a wedding and six kids and a happily ever after."

[richestduck]

"I'm aware. It's a shame, really. If that's what ye were here for, ye'd have been warming my son's bed within the first week." She held out her hand for slices of sausage.

... Wait, what.

Questionable things for a parent to say aside, "So he does find me attractive?"

[richestduck]

"Oh aye. I thought that was obvious." She blinked innocently at the goddess. "But my boy was raised better than tae roll in the hay with a lass he had no permanent intentions towards. Ye think ye're the first tae try?" She stepped a bit closer to fetch the sausage slices herself. "If he did, I imagine a good portion o' the village lassies would be sportin' big bellies."
