"Fine, so what were you trying to do? Maybe we can fix it. Then we can both head back to Auradon before Those brats turn everyone against me."

"I was trying to..."

She trailed off for a moment. Oh, this was about to get worse before it could get better. She inhaled sharply, and exhaled through clenched teeth before answering.

"... Okay, look. I never... lied to you in Auradon, but I wasn't exactly... entirely truthful about me and my career here. My band isn't as popular as I might have implied. We haven't even cracked a thousand viewers online. This theater is the only place we can afford to stay in." As in, free, because nobody else wanted it.

"So... in order to cover the costs of our gigs, we kinda... sorta.... steal from and rob people." She said that last part very quickly.

"Okay, so?" she asked, hands on her hips. "Do you think Il was born because I was bored? If stealing whatever it is is what we gotta do to get us back to Auradon, then let's get on with it."

Il cackled.

El protested. "NO! You're a good girl now! You decided to be go--" the word was cut off as Il kicked El in the cheek, sending her flying back. Utau caught her out of habit without even looking.

... Oh? Huh. Well. Not the reaction she expected, clearly. She's not sure whether to be upset or relieved.

"Uh, kinda thought you'd be a little more disappointed than that... nevermind." She waves a hand dismissively. "Until I can find the spell to send you back, you're going to have to pull off the biggest acting gig of your life. As far as the band is concerned? You ARE the demon I summoned. They're dumb enough to believe that. And if anyone else asks..."

She held up a finger, swirling it around and starting up another spell.

"... You're my little sister. Utau Macawber. Ready for a make-over?"

She laughed at the idea of playing the part of a demon. "Il."

Il flew right to her.

"You want to see a makeover into a demon?" she asked Morgana, smile almost feral. She stepped back then settled her feet, hands coming up in front of her chest. "My heart... unlock!" She started to glow, floating upwards. She danced in the glow as her clothes changed in a full on shojo magical girl transformation. Not that most shojo magical girls wound up with bat wings and a red leather minidress. She also had bat wings on her wrists and in her hair. She danced in place when she landed, settling her feet into her thigh high red leather boots. "Makeover enough?" she asked, smirking as a long black pitchfork appeared in her hands. She twisted it until she held it one handed, mostly behind her.

Morgana let out an impressed "hmmm" noise, cupping her beak. Maybe Utau actually COULD help them in their robberies... as wrong as it felt to pull her in that lifestyle...

"Almost. You're just missing one or two things."

In the meantime, Eek and Squeak had grabbed Morgana's guitar, and now flew over to plop it into her arms. She began to strum a few notes... then rapidly hit the strings, creating a small, dark storm, one that began to envelop Utau , blocking the light and all things visible for a few seconds, and when it cleared...

... nothing had changed. At least, as far as Utau would see.

"Archie? Fetch me my hand-mirror."

Grumble grumble. The spider spat out string to fetch a hand-mirror, and held it up to Utau's face. As far as the rest of the world would see... Utau now had a small black beak and white feathers all over her body. It was only an illusion, but now she looked like she really belonged in that world.

"There. Now nobody will suspect anything's wrong."

"Yeaaaah except that I look like someone who hated me got to one of my posters," she said bitingly. "Feathers are fine on you and all cause you're supposed to have them. Me? I'm not."

"Could you do us both a favor and imagine what would happen if you DIDN'T look like you belonged here? Or flip it around - imagine if I was in your world. You really think life would be sunshine and lollipops for a non-human in a place where beaks don't belong on anything that talks?"

She was trying to help Utau survive, and just as importantly... humans were seen as ugly, hideous creatures here. She didn't want Utau to deal with that scrutiny.

"I stopped expecting sunshine and lollipops a long time ago," she said, flatly. "I've been pushed to be who I'm not for almost that long," she added, tossing her hair back. "You going to be just one more person telling me that who I am isn't worth anything and should be buried?"

"In this world? Yes."

All right, if Utau wanted to be stubborn about this, then tough love would have to be the answer.

"This isn't Auradon. This is a world full of people, good and bad. I have to hide who and what I am all the time. I brought you here, so even though it wasn't my intention, that makes you my responsibility. So I'm keeping you alive, no matter what. This isn't a debate."

She glared, about to snap back, then she crossed her arms and turned her back. She took a few breaths, to hide the hurt and pull herself deep within. So much for thinking she could change. Could have friends. Could..

"Fine, whatever. Let's just get this done."

Morgana paused, hearing footsteps in the distance.

"The band's back. So your first acting gig is up. Just pretend to be a haughty, superior, snarky being... in other words, your usual self."

She then sighed, tapping away on her phone as she had to think of additional expenses. "Gotta adjust the food budget, clothes, get you a place to sleep..."

"I can take care of myself," she snapped. "You don't have to put yourself out for me."

"Too late, already happening."

"HEY, MORGANA!"

And in came the band - the base player, a female cyclops that was probably only JUST about Utau's height. The drummer, a hulking Frankenstein's monster of a man who only spoke in grunts. The electric keys, a two-headed troll that barely had one brain-cell between them.

"How much time did you waste? Or did you finally do something right for once?" barked the cyclops, kicking over a speaker as they made their way towards the two.

Morgana, used to the abuse, straightened up. "I'll have you know, Cornea, it went off without a hitch... This, everyone, is the Demon of Melody - Utau."

The Drummer - Frankie - and the keys - Jekyll & Hyde - made "Oooh" noises, clapping quietly. Cornea frowned, squinting. "... She doesn't look all that powerful to me."

"Like you would know powerful if it spat in your eye?" She asked, spinning to face her detractor. "No one asked you, and I don't see that changing any time soon."

Cornea growled, hands on her hips as she matched Utau's glare. "Right now, she's looking as useless as you, boss-lady."

Morgana's lips twitched... and then she grinned. What a prime opportunity for Utau to get a mood booster and revenge. "If that's the case... you wouldn't mind a demonstration. Mistress Utau," a little sweeping flourish of a bow. "Why don't you do my companion a favor, and show them what you can do?"

In other words, Utau was free to go kick-butt magical girl style and whallop Corena a new one. In fact, it didn't seem as if the members of the band could see the little Angel or Devil hovering nearby.

Well, only the angel now, as the devil was merged with her.

Utau smirked, and pointed a hand at Corena. NIGHTMARE LORELEI!" she called as red and black bats of pure energy flew at her. Before they faded she had a trident in her hands and was in a combat ready stance. That attack had never killed anyone before, but she wasn't exactly pulling her punches this time.

Cornea let out a surprised cry, falling over onto her back as she'd been swarmed. Even Frankie, Jekyll and Hyde backed up, quite nervous.

Morgana let out a witchy cackle, pleased that it was going so well. "I take it that's enough proof for you?"

Cornea grunted, then pushed herself to her feet. "Fine, fine... maybe she's worth something. At least she's worth more than you."

Used to the usual insults, Morgana just rolled her hand. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Okay, now we can get to rehearsal, and..." But when she turned toward them, the group was leaving again! "H-Hey! Where you you think you're going?!"

"We're beat. Gunna chill and watch TV. Later, loser."

"YOU DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING!" Morgana shouted, but it was no use. She slumped, groaning at being ignored again. "... great."

"Wow," she said as they were leaving, pitched to be heard. "I guess it is right, that when those who are incompetent are faced with competence they have no recourse but to run away. Too afraid we'll see you are all pointless and she doesn't need you?" She asked, One hand on her hip, other hand keeping the pitchfork laying low across her back behind her.

As much as she appreciated the effort, she still shook her head. "Don't bother. If it's not about stealing, they don't care. I pretty much had to bribe them to get them to work with me."

She rolled her shoulders, trying to hide how much it bothered her. "C'mon, I'll show you where you can stay. It's not the Ritz, but it should still be a little better than the Isle."

"Then you don't need them," she said, sharply, shaking her head. "And I don't really care where I stay. I won't be here long."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah..."

Morgana led Utau behind the stage, where many doors lined the walls. A TV was blasting from the room where the henchmen were enjoying their couch-potato lifestyle. Morgana's room, where the nameplate was on a tilt, was clearly an old dressing room that had seen better days.

It was a mixture of magic and music - a bubbling cauldron in a corner, the shelves lined up with potions and songbooks, a tall cracked vanity mirror, a place to sit and do one's make-up, framed photographs of Gosalyn, Launchpad, Drake and Darkwing...

As for sleep? A normal small bed with mismatched blankets on one side, and a coffin on the other.

"... When I started getting, uh, non-monster visitors, I realized letting them think I sleep in a coffin was... not good. So I got a normal bed to throw them off. You can sleep there."

"Non... monsters..." she said dryly. She ignored El as the small angel flew back to fix the nameplate.

Morgana let out a nervous little laugh.

"... The fans think that our weird looks and spells are just part of the show. Nobody really suspects that we're actually a bunch of monsters."

An off-hand shrug. "Nobody except for Darkwing Duck and his crew. Since you're staying with us, you might wind up running into them too."

The good part of her wanted to argue that her friend wasn't a monster. But her good part was buried at the moment. So she smirked instead. "I get to meet your boyfriends?"
