"Now who's the worrywart?" Scrooge teased. Still he reached back with one hand to touch Poe's cheek.

"Someone has to watch out for all of us." Poe took Scrooge's hand to kiss it. Magica was preoccupied, happily studying her ring and turning it over and over again.

Scrooge had spared no expense on the two rings. He'd had his finest jewelers make them and the engravings were so intricate that one could almost swear they could see every feather on the ravens of Magica's ring.

He hummed with pleasure as Poe kissed his hand. He closed his eyes for a moment, basking in contentment. Everything was right with the world.

Of course, such a thing couldn't last. After almost fifteen minutes, he said, "I think I need to head back inside if that's all right with both of you?"

"Told you." Poe said, but he released his hold on Scrooge.

Magica did move, but only to take Scrooge's arm and hug it close. "I don't mind, as long as we go together."

Scrooge happily walked with one on each side of him. Happy and content.

However, once they got up to their suite, he could feel impending doom. It had been brewing since he'd first started designing the rings.

"I'm going to use the bathroom. I'll be out in a few minutes," he promised as he broke off from the twins.

Poe saw this coming, and gently pulled Magica away from the bathroom, knowing she'd try to go in after him. "I'll get some ginger ale."

Magica just blinked rapidly, clueless. "Okay?"

Scrooge gave a shaky smile to Poe. The other man had seen this routine before, and he had a feeling tonight's was going to be rough.

He shut the door and leaned against the sink. He stared at himself in the mirror as cold sweat started to form. He forced himself to focus on his breathing, trying to ease what was coming. He'd still be somewhat exhausted by the end of it, but if he could at least lessen the effects so he didn't terrify Magica...

His stomach shot into his throat and he dove for the toilet, internally groaning as a very nice and expensive dinner went to waste. He felt like his chest was being squeezed by a giant, making it difficult to breathe.

But there was worse coming. The rest of the world vanished as panic surged to the forefront. Later on he would be glad that he'd stayed hunched over the toilet bowl, unaware that he was still periodically heaving.

Magica thought she heard something, but Poe was able to distract her quite easily. "Didn't you want to show Scrooge your new lingerie? I think tonight would be the perfect night for it."

"Oh! You're right!" Magica happily flounced off to the closet to change.

Poe, in the meanwhile, calmly grabbed ice water, ginger ale, and a few fresh towels for Scrooge, ready to help with the aftermath.

Scrooge's sense of time completely dissolved away, the minutes ticking by unmarked. Months of panic held him in their claws as he unknowingly dry-heaved into the toilet.

They'd said yes! He was fine! They'd said yes...right?

Poe waited a moment longer before calling in there. "Need anything in there? I've got drinks, towels, and I can keep distracting Magica."

Scrooge didn't answer. Which probably would clue in Poe that it was a Big One.

Honestly, Scrooge never heard Poe over the roaring in his ears.

Hoo boy.

Poe opened the door, but didn't intrude, wanting to give Scrooge his space. Instead, he gently slid two glasses in - water, ginger ale - and one folded towel, before closing the door.

Scrooge didn't even twitch, frozen in place as reality had ceased to exist to him.

Breathe...breathe...breathe...

"What's taking him so long in there?" Magica asked from the bedroom. "Is he sick? Do we need to call someone?"

"Patience is a virtue, sister dear." Poe sat at the door. "Just let him have his time."

Finally he was starting to hear something other than his own panicked thoughts. He took slow, steadying breaths as he finally blinked for the first time in...dammit, how long had it been?

The sour stench of vomit reached his nostrils but at least it was all in the toilet bowl. He reached up and flushed the toilet but didn't rise from the floor just yet. He needed to make sure it was done.

The flush was a good sign. Poe straightened up. "Magica, run a brush your hair, the wind may have picked at it."

Again, Magica was distracted. "It is my best feature," she bragged, grabbing a nearby hair brush.

Scrooge finally got back to his feet, grimacing as his bum leg screamed in protest. Dammit. He'd ended up having most of his weight on it. Oh well. Nothing for it.

He brushed his teeth along with his tongue, the roof of his mouth, and his cheeks to get rid of any last hint of vomit. Then he washed his face to help bring himself around. He felt drained but he had enough energy to stay up for a little while.

He saw the cups Poe had left for him, gratefully sipping the ginger ale first before getting the water into him. Only then did he leave the bathroom.

"Sorry about that!" he said cheerfully.

Poe took Scrooge's shoulder, lowering his voice so Magica wouldn't overhear. "How are you feeling? Be honest - and with her, too."

"A little tired," he admitted softly, "but I've been much worse off."

Poe had seen it, after all. Hell, the first time Poe had had to ride out a panic attack was when Scrooge had without warning pulled over to the side of a long stretch of highway, shut off the car, and completely seized up, muttering under his breath as panic had swallowed him whole for a full two hours.

"Then we need to let Magica know tonight isn't about wild, savage carnal desires." Poe said flatly. There was no need to be delicate about it. "Just cuddling."

"Unfortunately, yes." He sighed in frustration. "Two steps forward..."

Poe walked with Scrooge into the bedroom - and knew this would be a tad more difficult as he saw his twin sister laying in a sexy position in her new black, lacy underwear, eyebrows wiggling in Scrooge's direction.

"You kept me waiting for three months, and then a half hour." Magica playfully whined. "Naughty thing."

"I'm sorry, Magica," Scrooge said with a smile. His eyes swept over her. "Forgive me?"

Honestly, he might be able to scrape together enough energy for a go around but then he would be sleeping like a rock afterwards.

Poe pinched his temples. "Magica, Scrooge is actually-"

"Oh, I don't think he's that sorry." Magica interrupted, playfully twisting her bra clasp. "I think he needs to earn forgiveness."

Scrooge's heart pounded in his chest for an entirely different reason than the past (apparently) thirty minutes. He smiled at Magica.

"You'll need to go a bit easy on me," Scrooge said smoothly. "I'm still a bit nervy from holding onto those rings for three months and wondering if you two would accept them."

Not entirely the truth but not a lie either. Yes, eventually he'd need to tell Magica about the panic attacks and migraines that came from all the stressors in his life on top of his damned leg's tendency to act up at the worst possible times, but he didn't want to spoil her night.
