It was a beautiful night. There were no clouds in the sky, so the stars could be seen in all their loveliness, and it was warm enough to dress nicely without shivering. Scrooge's mansion on the hill was going to be finished soon, which was what the twins assumed this celebration had been about. A nice dinner, a few drinks, and now a delightful little stroll in private gardens.

Magica stopped for a moment to sit on a stone bench. "Mind if I take a minute? These heels are doing murder on me tonight."

Poe clicked his tongue. "I did warn you about them..."

"If I'd known we'd be walking on soft ground, I wouldn't have worn them! Besides, you know how good I look in them. Tell him, Scrooge."

Her brother rolled his eyes. "If beauty was suffering, I'd be in pain 24/7, and yet, here I am, perfectly pristine. Right, Scrooge?"

Scrooge had been distracted for a good portion of the evening despite the celebration. Admittedly, the mansion was part of the reason for the celebration. Plus the completion of the Money Bin. But the true meaning behind everything...

His hands were in his pockets, one hand wrapped around a box hiding there. He was nervous, knowing he was about to jump into the deep end without being able to see the bottom.

"Huh?" he asked, suddenly jolted out of his thoughts by being addressed. He shook his head and gave an awkward smile. "I'm sorry. What am I supposed to agree to this time?"

The twins paused, and then exchanged a look. Sometimes it seemed they shared a telepathic link, given how they looked like they easily exchanged so many words with just a glance.

"Darling, are you all right?" Magica asked, standing back up. "You've been acting odd all evening."

Poe frowned. "Is there a problem with the mansion's completion? The money bin?"

Scrooge always wondered if twins had some sort of mystical connection between them. The De Spells always seemed like they did. He almost envied that sort of closeness.

"I'm fine!" he told them. "The mansion's fine and the Bin's fine, I promise. Everything is going swimmingly!"

"Then why are you sweating up a storm?" Magica put her hands on her hips. "You know you suck at lying."

Poe chuckled in agreement. "He can bluff to any businessman, but when it comes to us, anything less than the truth gets him tonge-tied."

"Because you two know me too well. You know all my tells," Scrooge groused, happy for the distraction. However, he sighed and admitted, "I'm just...nervous."

"About what?" Magica came to Scrooge's side, with Poe taking the other. "What could possibly wreck the nerves of Scrooge McDuck, the wealthiest man in the world?"

"It'd be cute, if it wasn't worrisome." Poe quipped.

"I'm serious," Scrooge said, their teasing turning his insides into knots.

Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe they'd think it was just a joke but keep the gifts anyway. Oh, that'd just kill him...

The twins frowned. If he had to say it, then he really did mean it.

"You know you can trust us."
"You always have, and you always can."
"If you can't tell us, who can you tell?"
"We just want to help."

"I know. I know." Scrooge took a deep breath. "I'm just nervous because...everything's already changed so much for the better. And I'm afraid that I'll ruin it all."

Magica almost called him a worrywart, but a knowing glare from Poe made her change her mind. She tried to find a more suitable way to say it. "There's nothing you can say or do that would change the important things. Like... us."

"You're stuck with us forever, like it or not." Poe said with a smirk.

"I hope so," Scrooge muttered.

He took a deep breath and pulled out the box from his pocket. Kneeling before them was tempting but his bad leg would make him regret it. Besides, them being on either side of him worked just as well.

He hesitated in opening the box. It was a ring box but slightly larger than average for a very important reason.

Time froze as they saw the box. The twins, for once, said nothing - and even when they looked at each other, it didn't appear that they were saying to each other either.

In their mind, they were having the same line of thought.

This was inevitable. Eventually, he'd have to settle down and choose one of them. It was the mature, adult, reasonable thing to do. The world wouldn't accept all three of them. And hadn't life always been this way, everyone preferring one over the other?

But at that point, their thoughts differed - if only because they believed he was going to choose the other one. And it would hurt - but it was for the best. They wanted Scrooge and their sibling to be happy.

Surely, he was going to choose Magica.
Surely, he was going to choose Poe.

Scrooge took another deep breath, his hands shaking, as he opened the box.

Inside was not one white gold ring but two: the smaller one was adorned with raven engravings while the larger one had tulips.

"I can't properly propose," Scrooge said awkwardly. "What I'd like to do is illegal in most states. I just...I can't live without you. Either of you."

Both of their jaws dropped. Both of their eyes widened.

Was this real? How could it be? Scrooge had been known for doing the impossible, but this... was on a whole new level. He was refusing to choose. This was an option that the twins didn't think was ever there.

It was Magica who broke the silence, always the more emotional one - throwing herself at Scrooge, trying to kiss him. Poe, accurately guessing that this would definitely throw Scrooge off in more ways than one, made sure to hold Scrooge from behind to steady him.

Scrooge hated it whenever someone forced him to pick between two options. It always made him want to come up with a third, to defy expectations.

He was grateful for Poe's support as Magica nearly knocked him over. He used the arm of his ring box hand to hug Magica while his free hand went back to squeeze Poe's knee.

He kissed Magica and then turned his head to do the same to Poe. Then he asked lightly, "So is that a 'yes'...?"

"You stupid, greedy bastard." Magica giggled, tears in her eyes. She nuzzled Scrooge's cheek, kissing him there over and over again.

Poe squeezed Scrooge in his leg, resting his head on Scrooge's shoulder. "I think I can speak for the both of yes... it's a yes. A thousand times over."

"Oh good because I had no idea what I was going to do with a king-sized bed by myself," Scrooge said, sighing with relief.

He still felt a little queasy from leftover nerves. Honestly, the little flips of happiness his stomach was doing wasn't helping the situation, but he was happy all the same.

"Give it here!" Magica suddenly snatched the ring box so she could slip her ring on. "Oh, it's perfect!"

Poe calmly took his own. "Marvelous designs, too. How long have you been planning this?"

"A while," Scrooge admitted. "I've been carrying around that box for almost three months now."

And there were times he'd woken up in a cold sweat from nightmares of outright rejection. Yes, he was a greedy man who liked to keep his treasures close, but he wasn't only interested in collecting pretty things. He loved each and every treasure in his possession, the De Spell twins in particular. However, the dreams made him doubt himself, wondering if perhaps he was just "collecting a set" or some such nonsense.

He didn't sleep well those nights.

With the ring on, Magica snuggled into Scrooge's arms, purring like a happy cat. "Deceiving us for three whole months... such a naughty boy."

"I'm amazed the stress didn't kill you." Poe looked at Scrooge's face. "... Although it might now. You still look weathered. Maybe we should continue the party inside?"
