Fairytale AU - Mickey & Minnie

[princesswhatshername]

No one had ever seen the royal family, not unless they were super important, super rich, or some combination of the two. Minnie was neither - when it came to the social ladder, she wasn't just the bottom rung, she was probably below the ground holding it up. But she never complained - she was content with her life, and didn't crave anything more... except maybe a nice boy to spend it with, but beggars can't be choosers. Nice boys were hard to find nowadays. Most in the village were rough with roaming eyes, and Minnie couldn't see herself spending time with any of them.

Besides, there were bigger things to worry about these days. Word was that outside the kingdom, dragons had been spotted! What if they invaded the kingdom? Then again, no one in the village had ever seen a dragon... or faeries, or sprites, or nymphs, or anything else magical. So when Minnie's cat had run off into the woods, she didn't fear any of these things, trying to find her little baby before it got away too far.

"Figaro!" She called out, trying to find her beloved kitty-cat. "Figaro, you naughty boy, where are you?"

The good news is that she found her cat.

The bad news is that she also found the dragon. A scream of fear echoed throughout the forest...

Mickey cleared his throat, "Ohaha, n-not that long actually. But nevermind me, let's talk about you! How long have you lived out here?"

Minnie blinked, wondering why he wasn't bragging about his amazing knighthood. "Huh? ... Oh, well, all my life, really. My parents died when I was very young, so it's just been me and Figaro... I'm a seamstress. It doesn't make much, but I love helping people with their clothes."

She smiled fondly. "The look on a grandmother when she picks up the dress she wore when she met her husband... The laughter of children, ready to play in their new clothes..."

"Oh..."

Mickey held her hands as he looked softly into her eyes, "You deserve every bit of that kindness back Minnie... I'd be glad to be your friend, maybe I can help you with helping others."

Minnie felt her face flush, and she ducked her eyes, overwhelmed. "I... I'd like that a whole lot! Maybe you can introduce me to all of your other brave knight friends."

Mickey frowned as he rubbed the back of his neck, gee he didn't have that many friends back home. Most of them were just servants and others in charge who told him what he had to do as a prince. "Gee I... I-I don't have many friends..."

[princesswhatshername]

Minnie was surprised once more. "Really? But you're so nice, and so brave..."

Yet this admission wound up making her smile. "Well, I'm alone, and you're alone, but now we're not alone! It almost makes me want to thank that dragon."

Not help but giggling, Mickey held her hand close as he gazed down toward her. "Aw... Well I think I'm starting to like being alone this time if it's something share it with like you~"

Minnie squeezed his hand - they were never going to get home at this rate, and she didn't mind. "Heeheehee! You make it sound like a great thing... I hope you'll come see me again... and not just to rescue me!"

They seriously will take all day flirting. The eternal will they, won't they. Gives a warm smile as he lifted to kiss the top of her hand, "For you, aw... I'd come just to see your sweet face again!"

[princesswhatshername]

That caused her to burst into even louder giggles, lightly and teasingly pulling her hand away. "Then I'll wait every day for you to come see me! And I'll make sure each visit is special!"

Mickey grinned as they approached the house. Not helping but giggle with her, "Maybe I should surprise you with a flower something each time too~"

[princesswhatshername]

"I love flowers, how did you know!" Minnie twirled around, clasping her hands together. "But I bet you can't guess my favorite."

[kingdomkeyd]

Mickey tilts his head, "Well I can try and guess hmm, is it a rose?"

[princesswhatshername]

"Yes!" Minnie swung her hands around joyfully. "They're sooo romantic! Sometimes I'll sow a few fresh petals into the dress I'm working on, just to keep the scent around."

Giving a bright smile as Mickey gestured. "They I will bring you one for each visit so your gown will be decorated to your taste, but if you ask me," leans in and winks, "You're already beautiful."

[princesswhatshername]

"Oh, you!" Minnie wound up pushing him a little. "You're too good to be true! I bet you say that to all the pretty girls." She had a feeling he didn't.

Mickey gave a giggle, shook his head, "Aw, nah. Haha, I think you're the first gal that caught my eye like this."

[princesswhatshername]

"If you keep saying sweet things like that, you'll spoil me rotten!" The edge of the kingdom was in sight now, and Minnie began to tug on his hand even more, as if ready to show him off in front of the whole kingdom. "C'mon, we're almost there!"

Mickey nodded as he followed her. Then gave a warm smile as they managed to enter her place finally. "You got a wonderful view from your home too."

[princesswhatshername]

Minnie nods in agreement. The villagers don't even seem to notice anything has happened, going about their busy days as the marketplace opens. "Sometimes I make sure to wake up early so I can watch the sunrise touch the kingdom..."

"Sounds lovely, usually the morning is when I'm the most busy so I can attend to my duties," Mickey says not really thinking on the context.

[princesswhatshername]

Minnie turned to him, curious. "Oh? What kind of duties do you have? Aside from saving maidens from dragons, of course."

[kingdomkeyd]

"O-Oh I u-uh..." Clears throat as he rubs the back of his neck. Quick think something stupid! "Um knight... things... like fighting, chivalry, yea those things!"

Nailed it.

Now that... made Minnie's head tilt. That sounded more like what a knight was, not what a knight did, as if he was struggling to remember what someone else had said.

"Fighting... you mean, like fighting bad guys?"

Gives a nod, "Y-Yeah! Gotta always be prepared for that after all!"
