Fairytale AU - Mickey & Minnie

No one had ever seen the royal family, not unless they were super important, super rich, or some combination of the two. Minnie was neither - when it came to the social ladder, she wasn't just the bottom rung, she was probably below the ground holding it up. But she never complained - she was content with her life, and didn't crave anything more... except maybe a nice boy to spend it with, but beggars can't be choosers. Nice boys were hard to find nowadays. Most in the village were rough with roaming eyes, and Minnie couldn't see herself spending time with any of them.

Besides, there were bigger things to worry about these days. Word was that outside the kingdom, dragons had been spotted! What if they invaded the kingdom? Then again, no one in the village had ever seen a dragon... or faeries, or sprites, or nymphs, or anything else magical. So when Minnie's cat had run off into the woods, she didn't fear any of these things, trying to find her little baby before it got away too far.

"Figaro!" She called out, trying to find her beloved kitty-cat. "Figaro, you naughty boy, where are you?"

The good news is that she found her cat.

The bad news is that she also found the dragon. A scream of fear echoed throughout the forest...

Minnie nods in agreement. The villagers don't even seem to notice anything has happened, going about their busy days as the marketplace opens. "Sometimes I make sure to wake up early so I can watch the sunrise touch the kingdom..."

"Sounds lovely, usually the morning is when I'm the most busy so I can attend to my duties," Mickey says not really thinking on the context.

Minnie turned to him, curious. "Oh? What kind of duties do you have? Aside from saving maidens from dragons, of course."

[kingdomkeyd]

"O-Oh I u-uh..." Clears throat as he rubs the back of his neck. Quick think something stupid! "Um knight... things... like fighting, chivalry, yea those things!"

Nailed it.

Now that... made Minnie's head tilt. That sounded more like what a knight was, not what a knight did, as if he was struggling to remember what someone else had said.

"Fighting... you mean, like fighting bad guys?"

[kingdomkeyd]

Gives a nod, "Y-Yeah! Gotta always be prepared for that after all!"

[princesswhatshername]

Minnie frowned. Something was a little off. "Are there really that many bad guys in our kingdom?"

[kingdomkeyd]

"Erm well... Depends on the day...? U-Usually not but, y-you never know heh..."

Please oh please fall for that.

Now he was just contradicting himself! Minnie tilted her head left, and then right, studying him with utmost suspicion. "Sir Mickey... is it possible..."

"... That you've never talked to a girl before?"

[kingdomkeyd]

"Wha-I-N-No I was just-!"

[princesswhatshername]

"It makes perfect sense!" Minnie still didn't suspect for a second that Mickey wasn't a knight. He was just girl-shy, that was all!

"I guess it is hard to meet girls when you're busy being a knight, you probably have so little time for dating."

[kingdomkeyd]

"Huh, o-oh-!" A quick recovery as Mickey took a breath. That was a close one! Then gives a nervous nod, "Y-Yeah, I never really could get myself to talk to a girl I liked b-before haha... That is, until today, h-hope I'm doin' ok am I?"

[princesswhatshername]

Minnie snuggled up to his arm, giving his hand a squeeze. "You just need to relax... There's nothing about you I could possibly dislike."

It was at this point Mickey's cheeks grew warm, both from guilt and from the happiness of being around her. He looked down shyly as he chuckled softly, "O-Oh Minnie... Th-Thank you..."

By now they had entered the kingdom, and a few heads began to turn. Some blinked and squinted, thinking Mickey to be familiar, they just couldn't place where. Minnie never seemed to notice. "We're almost at my house! I'm sure you have to go back on your knightly duties soon..."

Mickey noticed that, holding up his collar to try and hide his face more. As he held himself closer to Minnie, "Y-Yeah, lets try and go quickly then..."

He totally doesn't want to be noticed, but nope can't say as to why.

Minnie's little home was only a hop, skip, and a jump away. It was very small, with one or two holes in the roof, and tilted to one side. But it was her home, and Figaro ran on ahead, mewing as he headed for his cozy bed.

"Here we are. I'm sorry that it's not as fancy as to what you're used to."

Once they arrived, Mickey gave a warm smile, dropping his collar to relax and be himself. He reached out to try and pet Figaro, "Oh I don't mind at all, it's actually quite quaint. Aw, you have a kitty too!"

[princesswhatshername]

Figaro mewed, rubbing against Mickey's fingers. "He was the reason I went so far outside the kingdom." Minnie sighed, tsking a little. "Sometimes he can be very good... but sometimes he wants to run away and cause lots of trouble!"

After that little lecture, she headed for her cabinets. It would be rude not to serve her guest something, even though she didn't have much food as it was. "Hmmm... let's see..."

Looks over curiously, "Oh you don't have to make me anything, I'm alright."

[princesswhatshername]

"But you're my guest!" Minnie turned back around, insistent. "It would be rude of me not to at least get you a cup of tea! Especially when I have such an important person in my house!"

She put a hand to her heart, letting her imagination run away with her. "Imagine if the royal family found out I was 'rude' to one of their knights... why, they might toss me in the dungeon!"

Rubs the back of his neck shyly at that. Then shook his head, wincing at the royal family part. But he gave a warm smile, "I'm sure they wouldn't mind, let me help out at least. I don't mind trying my hand at the kitchen."

[princesswhatshername]

And he can cook? Sheesh, was he trying to be the perfect man for Minnie?

"Well... I guess it would be rude to say no." She couldn't help but giggle, charmed by his politeness. "Help yourself!"

Mickey smiled as came over to her side. Chuckling in delight, as he began to open the cabinet. "Sure thing! Let's see, is the tea is in here?"

"A-huh!" Minnie nodded, pointing it out. This was nice... she never had any real company ever since her parents passed away. "Do they teach tea-making in knight training?" She teased.
