 Magica was genuinely happy - not the malicious smirk of making her enemies suffer, nor the lustful glee of a good night in Scrooge's arms - no, what was on Magica's face this evening was of pure happiness. And why shouldn't she be? The one person nearest and dearest to her heart was finally coming home. The moment she'd gotten the notice - via a letter tied around a raven's leg - she ordered the most lavish celebration the coven could create for his arrival. All the best wines were to be brought up, the fattest pigs slaughtered...

The entire castle was gathered in the throne room - slaves, witches, warlocks, relatives and minions, all were to be there for the return of the second head of the coven. The moment the doors opened, the music played, and everyone else fell to their knees in worship.

Funny enough, the man in question didn't appear to give a damn about what was going on.

Sure, he was smiling, but he wasn't acknowledging anyone he walked by, no matter how loudly they called his name and praised his safe return. As far as Lord Poe De Spell was concerned, there was only one other person in the room - his dear sister.

Once Poe arrived at the base of the thrones, he put an arm to his stomach and bowed graciously. Magica in turn placed a hand on her dress for a simple, quick curtsy. "It is good to see you home safe and sound, Poe."

"It's good to be home, Magica." He raised his head. "The conquest of the southern territories was a complete success. They shan't be giving us anymore trouble."

With the formalities over with, Magica suddenly ran into Poe's arms, and he held her as tightly possible.

He shook his head. "She's been very good to me, Master. She even placed a distelfink on me to protect me."

It's just there were ways to get around it.

"But this is nothing new: I'm of the McDuck bloodline."

Now that gave Poe great pause - he almost dropped the dessert in shock. "Distelfink?" He repeated in shock. "She put a distelfink on you?!"

It wasn't complicated magic, no, but it was still something outrageous to do for someone else, let alone a slave!

Scrooge immediately cringed. "Y-yes, Master. Is...is that bad?"

"I... it's something, all right." Poe ate the dessert himself before running a hand through his hair. How many secrets did Magica plan on hiding from her own brother?

It was definitely killing the pitched tent his towel had made.

"You've certainly made an impression on her."

[richestduck]

"I'm not sure how, Master," Scrooge admitted.

[blackmagicduck]

"That makes two of us." He shook his head. Best not to risk it further.

"Off with you, then. Before Magica makes a fuss."

[richestduck]

"Yes, Master."

He headed for the door before pausing.

"Master?"

[blackmagicduck]

"... What is it?"

Slaves having questions was also rare.

[richestduck]

"I know you're very busy and need to focus on more important things," Scrooge began, "but would it be possible in the future to continue our lessons?"

A brave little soul, or one committed to his role.

"I'll consider it." Not a definite approval, but not an outright rejection either.

"Thank you, Master. Have a good night."

Scrooge bowed and left the room, heading over to Magica's room. He knocked on the door.

"Mistress?"

"Enter." Magica was already in her nightgown, practicing a few simple spells before sleep.

Scrooge did as she commanded, shutting the door behind himself.

He walked over to Magica, ready to help her get ready in any way she might need for bed.

Magica finished up her spell, and turned to Scrooge, frowning a little. She had to be sure.

"My brother hasn't been giving you any more trouble, has he?"

Scrooge shook his head. "No, Mistress."

He didn't consider interrogation as any real trouble. Poe wasn't the first person to grill him and wouldn't be the last.

Magica studied Scrooge's face for any signs of lying or hesitation, and found neither. She sighed, and took his hand, heading for bed.

"I'll get him in line. Maybe being away from the castle for so long made him too... loose."

"Mistress, if I may offer an opinion...?"

He didn't want the siblings fighting with one another. One, they might take it out on him. Two, he liked Magica and Poe.

Magica sat on the bed, intrigued that he was offering at all. "I'm listening."

[richestduck]

Scrooge swallowed. Oh boy. Here was a real test of how much she would tolerate.

"I don't believe you should be as upset with Master as you were. I'm still a slave, and the pleasure of a slave called to their master's bed isn't important. He didn't do anything wrong."

[blackmagicduck]

To think he could "defy" her in such an open way. How far he'd come since they first met. She was rather proud of him.

"You're not just any slave, however." She motioned for Scrooge to come closer. "You're mine. And injuring you is an insult to me. If Poe wants to enjoy himself without considering the consequences, he can have his fair pick of any slave within the castle."

Once Scrooge was close enough, she tenderly stroked his cheek. "I'll never allow anyone to hurt you."

"Thank you, Mistress." He relaxed. Good. She hadn't been furious at him. He'd been scared she'd be enraged by it.

However, now he had to ask another question, "Mistress, what exactly is a distelfink?"

My, he was talkative, and what a subject!

"... It's a type of charm. The flow of destiny is very difficult to change outright. I could no more control where I was born and who gave me life anymore than you could. However, a distelfink allows a person to bend destiny. They can't outright change everything, but things become more favorable for them."

"So it's a lucky charm?"

[blackmagicduck]

"In a sense. But what brought this on? You barely questioned it when I first put it on you."

"Master seemed upset when I told him about it."
