Magica was genuinely happy - not the malicious smirk of making her enemies suffer, nor the lustful glee of a good night in Scrooge's arms - no, what was on Magica's face this evening was of pure happiness. And why shouldn't she be? The one person nearest and dearest to her heart was finally coming home. The moment she'd gotten the notice - via a letter tied around a raven's leg - she ordered the most lavish celebration the coven could create for his arrival. All the best wines were to be brought up, the fattest pigs slaughtered...

The entire castle was gathered in the throne room - slaves, witches, warlocks, relatives and minions, all were to be there for the return of the second head of the coven. The moment the doors opened, the music played, and everyone else fell to their knees in worship.

Funny enough, the man in question didn't appear to give a damn about what was going on.

Sure, he was smiling, but he wasn't acknowledging anyone he walked by, no matter how loudly they called his name and praised his safe return. As far as Lord Poe De Spell was concerned, there was only one other person in the room - his dear sister.

Once Poe arrived at the base of the thrones, he put an arm to his stomach and bowed graciously. Magica in turn placed a hand on her dress for a simple, quick curtsy. "It is good to see you home safe and sound, Poe."

"It's good to be home, Magica." He raised his head. "The conquest of the southern territories was a complete success. They shan't be giving us anymore trouble."

With the formalities over with, Magica suddenly ran into Poe's arms, and he held her as tightly possible.

To think he could "defy" her in such an open way. How far he'd come since they first met. She was rather proud of him.

"You're not just any slave, however." She motioned for Scrooge to come closer. "You're mine. And injuring you is an insult to me. If Poe wants to enjoy himself without considering the consequences, he can have his fair pick of any slave within the castle."

Once Scrooge was close enough, she tenderly stroked his cheek. "I'll never allow anyone to hurt you."

"Thank you, Mistress." He relaxed. Good. She hadn't been furious at him. He'd been scared she'd be enraged by it.

However, now he had to ask another question, "Mistress, what exactly is a distelfink?"

My, he was talkative, and what a subject!

"... It's a type of charm. The flow of destiny is very difficult to change outright. I could no more control where I was born and who gave me life anymore than you could. However, a distelfink allows a person to bend destiny. They can't outright change everything, but things become more favorable for them."

"So it's a lucky charm?"

"In a sense. But what brought this on? You barely questioned it when I first put it on you."

"Master seemed upset when I told him about it."

Oh. Magica sucked on the inside of her cheek - she had left out that little detail, hadn't she?

... Maybe. Just maybe. Poe had a small point.

"... I suppose," she finally said, "I might owe him a... small apology."

"...What did I do wrong, Mistress?"

Because he must have said or done something wrong.

"The opposite, dear one. You've helped us all out a little. Don't fret about it."

She opened her arms, welcoming him to bed.

He immediately followed the silent command. He slid into place beside her, wrapping his arm around her waist. He knew she wasn't after sex tonight, but he was fairly sure she at least wanted to cuddle.

Magica sighed peacefully, snuggling up to him and closing her eyes. The candles in the room automatically went out.

She'd apologize to Poe tomorrow. Now? There was no place she'd rather be.

Scrooge lightly preened Magica's neck feathers before he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

As always, he woke up very early but didn't move just yet. He was never entirely sure if it'd be a good idea to just get up and start on his chores...even if that first chore of the day was Magica's breakfast.

As much as Magica wanted to sleep in and enjoy Scrooge's warmth, she had her own "chores" to attend to as the coven head. With a grumble, she nuzzled Scrooge affectionately before finally starting to get up. "Mmm..."

Scrooge got up and moved towards the door. "I'll fetch your breakfast, Mistress."

"Make it heavy, dear." Magica began to stretch. "I'll need my strength today." Apologizing would take so much out of her, since she'd rarely done it before.

"Yes, Mistress."

He exited her room but paused to knock on Poe's door.

"Master? Would you like me to bring you your breakfast?"

Poe, who was already wide again, debated about snarking to Scrooge about Magica's overprotectiveness towards him... but left it alone.

"Fine. Put it in the library."

"Yes, Master."

Scrooge headed off towards the kitchen, putting in Magica's request. While they finished up the additions to Magica's meal, Scrooge efficiently took Poe's breakfast to the library. He returned to the kitchen just in time for them covering the plate.

He took Magica's tray back to her room, knocking twice before entering.

As always, Magica was already dressed and looking positively perfect before entering. But she'd noted that, due to his checking in on Poe, he was slightly late.

"Was something amiss?" Magica asked.

Scrooge shook his head. "I was asking Master if he wanted his breakfast. He wanted it in the library."

Magica paused. Did she want Scrooge going out of his way to serve Poe in the morning as well?

... Perhaps it was a good idea. It was a small start to show her brother how efficient her slave was. Soon he'd see that Scrooge was the perfect servant to have. "You did the right thing," she praised him, stroking his cheek feathers. "I'm pleased."

Scrooge beamed. She'd told him to obey Poe as he would her, after all. It only made sense to retrieve his breakfast as well.

"I'm happy to serve, Mistress!"

Magica favored him with a kiss before sitting down to eat. "Run along and have your own breakfast, dear one. I imagine we're all going to have a long day."

"Yes, Mistress. Please don't hesitate to tell me if you need anything."

With that, Scrooge bowed and left, heading towards the kitchen. He took his time on the walk, cleaning little things along the way. He wouldn't be allowed to eat until the others were finished anyway.

The day dragged on as usual, with Poe stunned to hear his sister apologize for something. She explained Scrooge's questioning, and Poe was befuddled. If the spy's aim was to break up the coven, why risk injury or worse in trying to get them back together?

He was so confused that after finishing his breakfast and trying to read, he found it difficult to concentrate on the pages.
