reign over everything / take over everything (magica x scrooge x poe)
Magica was genuinely happy - not the malicious smirk of making her enemies suffer, nor the lustful glee of a good night in Scrooge's arms - no, what was on Magica's face this evening was of pure happiness. And why shouldn't she be? The one person nearest and dearest to her heart was finally coming home. The moment she'd gotten the notice - via a letter tied around a raven's leg - she ordered the most lavish celebration the coven could create for his arrival. All the best wines were to be brought up, the fattest pigs slaughtered...
The entire castle was gathered in the throne room - slaves, witches, warlocks, relatives and minions, all were to be there for the return of the second head of the coven. The moment the doors opened, the music played, and everyone else fell to their knees in worship.
Funny enough, the man in question didn't appear to give a damn about what was going on.
Sure, he was smiling, but he wasn't acknowledging anyone he walked by, no matter how loudly they called his name and praised his safe return. As far as Lord Poe De Spell was concerned, there was only one other person in the room - his dear sister.
Once Poe arrived at the base of the thrones, he put an arm to his stomach and bowed graciously. Magica in turn placed a hand on her dress for a simple, quick curtsy. "It is good to see you home safe and sound, Poe."
"It's good to be home, Magica." He raised his head. "The conquest of the southern territories was a complete success. They shan't be giving us anymore trouble."
With the formalities over with, Magica suddenly ran into Poe's arms, and he held her as tightly possible.

"Well now," Poe said with faint amusement. "What do we have here?"
Proud as a peacock, Magica came to Scrooge's side. "Could you believe a gem like this was just hiding in plain sight? His old handlers were content to let him rot away with menial work."
"Leave it to you to find a diamond in the rough." Poe took Scrooge's beak into his fingers, carefully inspecting him. His eyes bore into Scrooge, as if he was searching for something else entirely.

Despite having no idea, Scrooge met Poe's gaze, not flinching from the searching eyes. He waited patiently (one could almost argue indulgently) as the male De Spell studied him. If anything, he straightened up just a bit out of habit from previous ill-fitting collars.
He said nothing, waiting.

"Oh, we can go over all the boring details later. You're home at last, we shall celebrate." But instead of heading towards the large banquet, she headed for the door to the hallways, expecting Scrooge and Poe to follow obediently.
Poe took one more look at Scrooge. Spies were not a new threat to the coven... but this one didn't seem particularly threatening in any sense of the word. And darling Magica was smarter than that. He silently walked after his win.

"Yes, milady."
Poe cleared his throat. "Sister... how did you acquire this one?"
"You know that boorish couple who runs the head of livestock and stables? I was there for an inspection, and he was merely cleaning the fireplace. Such a waste." A little laugh. "And they didn't even realize he could do math! The numbers run through his head quite brilliantly."
In minutes, it would become clear the "place of celebration" was Magica's bedroom.

His neutral expression faltered to show confusion and a tad nervousness. Magica he was coming to trust. Poe was an unknown entity. A potentially dangerous one at that.
"Are you certain you don't want me to retrieve refreshments, Mistress?" he asked, keeping his voice as level as possible.

Once inside the bedroom, Magica began to take off the collar, much to Poe's obvious shock. "He's earned it," she replied casually at the unasked question. "You'll see in time." She continued to undress Scrooge, ready to show him off.
Poe took a seat on the bed, continuing his quiet inspection. Yes, the slave was very nice to look at, but Poe's eyes were looking for the mark that would prove his theory.

Scrooge started to raise his hands to rub at his now-freed neck, the shortened feathers unused to being exposed. However, a quick glance at Poe, and he hastily lowered them again, waiting for the inevitable inspection.
no subject
"His name is Scrooge. Not only is he good with numbers," Magica preened, "But he can read and write. He organized your entire library while you were gone."
"Is that right." Poe didn't sound angry - but he didn't sound pleased either. "Obviously, no one else knows about his talents."
"Obviously," Magica repeated. "Last thing we need is for anyone to get the wrong idea. Speaking of that..." She frowned. "What is taking that servant so long? I'll be right back." She flitted to the door, closing it behind as she left.
Which now left Poe and Scrooge alone.
Poe's charming smile dropped in seconds.
"Scrooge, is it?" Poe said slowly, fingers pressed together. "Well now. It seems we have some time to interrogate one another... I know your brain's been practically aflame with curiosity since you saw me. So. Ask."
no subject
He didn't lower his gaze, holding Poe's gaze unflinchingly. He was very uneasy but he had the distinct impression that showing such unease would displease the other De Spell.

"I do my best work in the shadows. Unknown, unseen. As for her... when I'm absent, her loss is so great she dislikes anyone even mentioning my name, lest it remind her of her heartache." A quiet chuckle. "She's so cute, that way. I do adore her so."
He began to smile again - but it was a thin, deadly one. "Of course, I am wary to anything, or anyone who would dare hurt her. Naturally, it makes me wonder... you, who were dressed so prettily and look so healthy... why have you earned her favor?"
no subject

Different was an understatement.
"And you can't think of a single thing you've done that has placed you above your station. Just random happenstance, the luck of the draw."

"Come here."

He was going to die. And he had no idea why.
'He doesn't owe me an explanation.'

He slowly moved his hands to Poe's waist and then up to his shoulders, not quite sure what to do.

The silence was broken by the sound of the door re-opening, then closing, followed by Magica's voice. "Poe... how could you..."
There she stood, wine in one hand, glasses in another.
"... Start without me?" She griped, like she'd caught a younger sibling with their hand in the cookie jar. "And you call me impatient!"
Poe broke the kiss, smiling mischievously. "Sorry, sorry. I couldn't help myself."
no subject
"How could you?!" a remembered voice thundered in his mind.
Remembered burning agony striped across his back as phantom wounds opened again.
'She's going to kill me. She's going to kill me. She'sgoingtokillmeshe'sgoingtokillmeshe'sgoingtokillme!'
no subject
"I should hope they were properly punished." Poe said, watching Scrooge's whole body language change. Well, well. At least he knew well enough to fear his masters - although why now, instead of before when he was actually being questioned, was curious.
"Of course, of course. But forget about that now." She took a sip, before picking up a glass to give to Scrooge. "You're home, and..." She trailed off, blinking at Scrooge's. expression. "Scrooge? ... My. Did Poe frighten you that badly?"
"You wound me, sister dear."
no subject
Scrooge fell to one knee, lowering his head submissively as he leaned over his raised knee. It exposed his bloodline mark to both her and Poe.
He didn't tell her what for. It should've been obvious: He'd been kissing someone else without her permission.
His back burned. When would the bleeding stop? When would it stop?!
no subject
"No, this was my fault."
... and promptly spat it out in disbelief. He stared at Magica, stunned. Did he actually... hear Magica... blame herself for something?!
Ignoring Poe's shock, Magica knelt down besides Scrooge and took him into his arms. "I should have it explained it clearer, earlier. Poe is my other half. All that is mine is his, and all that is his is mine. You did nothing wrong."
no subject
"Forgive me, Mistress," he repeated though for an entirely different reason.
His bloodline mark itched. If either sorcerer wanted, they could have used the mark to hurt him extensively, particularly since they were the creators of the mark in the first place...
no subject
Our home, Poe noticed. Was she referring to the two of them... or was she now including Scrooge in there?
With a snap of her fingers, Magica now had a glass in her arms, and put it to Scrooge's lips. "Drink. We'll get rid of all those silly worries."
