Welcome to the Fairytale Meme, where it’s time to indulge in your happiest happily ever afters or your grimmest Grimm tales! I’ll provide the tropes, you provide the characters! Leave a blank comment or list your preferences! Pick and choose, RNG, or plot with a pal to come up with a story that suits you best! Of course, if there are tales, roles, or 'spells' you’d like to try that aren’t listed, go for them anyway! The only limit is your imagination!

Royalty : examples - King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Duke, Duchess, etc!
Are you spoiled sweet, or rotten and rich? Cursed because of your vanity, or seeking to find your one true love? A runaway bride, defiant rebel, or slave to tradition?

Commoner: examples – Servant, Peasant, Knight, etc!
Are you an indentured servant thanks to a cruel family, or a simple peasant who sings to the birds? Ready to go an epic quest to prove your worth, or just trying to keep your loved ones safe and sound? Longing for more, content in your ways, or indifferent to status?

Trickster: Fairy Godmother, Enchantress, Big Bad Wolf, Genie, etc!
You’re not quite human, except perhaps for your heart? Do you try to help those less fortunate, or pick on silly mortals for fun? Are you a member of the Fae, or a dragon guarding their horde? Trying to teach a lesson, greedily taking what you think is yours, or curious about the way the other half lives?

Beauty and the Beast:
One person’s trapped in a monstrous form, the other is the cure! Unless you like your new body, and your true love is down with claws and scales. Hey, you do you.

Cinderella:
It’s a ball! Spice it up, make it a masquerade if you please! Royals and rags mix together under the sparkling lights for a dance of epic romantic proportions!

Red Riding Hood:
Onc’s a red-colored quester, the other’s a big bad wolf. Together they… fight crime! Or make out. Or antagonize each other. Or all of the above!

Rapunzel:
Have some oddly familial time with kidnapped kid and witch/warlock, or be the confused traveler who comes across the world’s most epic ponytail! Or beard, long as you climb gently.

The Little Mermaid:
The oh-so-classic tale of fishing for love! Or maybe the Sea Witch wants some action too. Go for the Disney sweetness of exploring the human world, or the agony of ‘de feet’ as every step is walking pain.

Of course, these are only a handful of fairytales, it’d be impossible to list them all. Go for what you’re craving! If you want to use a story that you’re not sure others will be familiar with, don’t hesitate to drop a link or a video – who doesn’t enjoy learning a new story? Or mix two or more stories together! These are only suggestions, go with what your inner author tells you!

True Love’s Kiss:
The cure-all to end all cure-alls! But maybe the cheek or forehead will count, as will the love of a family member or friend! Maybe neither of you even realized your feelings until that moment, oops!

Happy Haunts:
A spooky location, with sad tales of lost loves waiting for their intended on the other side. Are they trying to lure you to your death, or helping you avoid a similar fate?

Life’s A Happy Song:
This is “Tricksters Are Assholes” prompt. You got cursed to sing all the time! Or have frogs/jewels pop out of your mouth every time you speak! Or they’re giving you an impossible quest – hold onto your beloved if you want to keep them, even if they turn into ice or water!

((Thank you! Hopefully this was worth the wait lol)) [ The Royal Ball was one of the biggest, most anticipated events of the year. Invitations were extended to everyone in the kingdom, even as far as the country farm where Donald grew up with his family. But while most of his family had attended the ball before, Donald had never been able to go for one reason or another. Even this year, he almost would have missed going even while his furiously-lucky cousin and twin sister had gotten to go. But for the first time, luck seemed to be on his side when his fairy godmother had helped him. Which was...kind of random, but hey, he wasn't about to complain. With the fairy godmother's magic, he was dressed in a shimmering silk suit, one of the finest he had ever seen (even better than Gladstone's HA), and was gifted with an ornate mask for this year's masquerade theme. And since he was running late, his fairy godmother even changed a pumpkin into a carriage so he could hurry to the palace. His fairy godmother warned him that the magic would only last until midnight, though. But honestly, that was enough time to enjoy himself, wasn't it? ]

[As expected, the ball was in full swing. Couples were dancing together as romantic music swayed, the banquet was exquisite and delicious, and it seemed as if all of the highest of high society was there. Who wouldn't be enjoying themselves at the Royal Ball?

One of the royals themselves, as a matter of fact.

Even with all these ornate masks, Princess Daisy could recognize plenty of these dull, boring suitors by the way they yammered on about their fancy mansions and number of servants and how important their families were and blah blah blah. If she had any say, she'd flee at the first opportunity, but she knew her parents wanted her to find a good husband among all the partygoers. As if romance could be made it one night!

Eventually, she wrangled herself free, and tried to find some space for herself out on the nearby balcony. Even with all those people vying for her attention, she felt terribly lonely. There was no one she could have a real conversation with, they just wanted to talk of wealth, as if that was all that mattered.

What she wouldn't give to meet someone who had no idea who she was...]

[ Ask and ye shall receive... While most of the suitors still yearn for the princess' attention, most of them don't cross the threshold of the balcony, remaining inside to wait for. With the exception of one person, who has mostly just been looking around as he wanders instead of paying attention to what's going on. And eventually he finds himself on the balcony nearby, looking at the decorations that adorned the outside. ]

[It didn't take long for her to realize she wasn't alone, and boy did it irk her. The one place where those snooty suitors knew not to tread, and this fool dared...?

But when she looked over, she blinked a few times. No immediate recognition came. Hm... maybe his mask was just that good. Perhaps once she spoke, she'd recognize the voice.]

You must be feeling pretty bold.

[ A bit surprised, he turns until he finds the source of the voice. And he hesitates before speaking, hoping that anyone who would recognize his voice aren't close by. ] Oh, uh...sorry. I just uh, wanted to see how the decorations looked up close. I didn't realize anyone else was out here.

[Now that's a distinct voice! She certainly would've remembered that before... So who is he?]

... You came all the way out here just to look at the decorations?

Yeah. I've uh...never really gotten to see the before. [ He clears his throat, suddenly hyper aware that he and this young lady are quite alone on the balcony here. ] But uh...I didn't mean to intrude. I can uh...go, if you wanted to be alone.

[Well... hm. Maybe having this guy here would make sure the usual hob-knobbers left her alone. He won't mind being a meat shield so long as he doesn't know about it, right?]

It's fine. In fact, why don't you come over here?

[allthebadluck]

[ He hesitates for a moment. ] Uh...is that...okay? [ Simple farm boy that he is, he does at least know that being alone with a woman you're not related to is...not proper. ]

[She gives a playful wink.]

If I'm saying so, then doesn't that make it okay?

[ Swallowing the lump in his throat, he tugs at his collar a bit. ] U-Uh...yeah, I...I guess so. [ This is fine. Just going to spend time alone on a balcony at the palace with a beautiful lady. Perfectly fine. ]

[Compared to the macho swagger she's used to deflecting, his shy nervousness is quite charming.]

It's not like I'm keeping you prisoner. If you see a nice young girl you'd rather be dancing with, you can leave anytime.

[She's teasing. Kinda.]

[ That does get a bit of a laugh from him. ] I doubt I'd find anyone prettier than you. [ ........shoot, did he say that out loud? ]

[Such a corny line would have been normal from the guys inside - but not the instant look of horror and regret that came afterward. It's enough to make her giggle into her hand.]

I'd ask if you say that to all the girls, but I can already tell you don't!

[ He chuckles sheepishly. ] Er...no, not really. [ Even in his nervousness, he could hear some of the music as it drifts out from the ballroom. ] Would you, uh...care to dance?

Yes, I'd care to.

[Again, a bit teasingly - but she does curtsy formally first before stepping forward and offering her hand. The gentleman leads, after all.]

[ He returns with a bow before stepping closer and taking her hand. He's still a bit nervous though, because while he knows the steps, he's never really danced much before. After all, it's hard to practice when the only women you knew were your grandmother and twin sister. So as the dance begins, he can't help moving just a bit too stiffly, keeping his eyes on his feet as he counts in his head. ]

[As a result, he's telling a lot about himself without every saying a word.]

Your first time dancing?

[ Most men might try to lie about not being familiar with a dance, since it was important part of social stature. This one, meanwhile, simply offers a sheepish smile. ] Not really first time...I just, uh...don't get to dance a lot. [ Which is...also unusual for any kind of nobleman. Especially to admit so out loud. ]

[Which begs the question how did he even get into the ball in the first place? If he was found out, some snooty hoity-toitys would be eager to throw him out.

She can't have that, when he's the only interesting person here.]

I wish I could dance less. All those lessons by my tutor get so dull so fast. It's the same song over and over and over...

[ He frowns a little; he'd never really thought about what it would've been like for nobility having to learn all this stuff. ] Yeah, that does sound kind of boring. What do you do when you have time for yourself?

If I get time for myself... I try to slip out and see the ocean.

[One of the great things about the kingdom is that it's aligned with a beautiful ocean. She smiles as she thinks about it.]

I could watch it for hours.

[ His own smile brightens. ]

Me too! Sometimes, if I have time, I just like to take a boat out and go fishing all day.

[ He doesn't usually....catch anything, but being out on the water is fine enough on its own. Actually catching a fish is just a bonus. ]
