WELCOME TO THE FAIRYTALE MEME

Welcome to the Fairytale Meme, where it’s time to indulge in your happiest happily ever afters or your grimmest Grimm tales! I’ll provide the tropes, you provide the characters! Leave a blank comment or list your preferences! Pick and choose, RNG, or plot with a pal to come up with a story that suits you best! Of course, if there are tales, roles, or 'spells' you’d like to try that aren’t listed, go for them anyway! The only limit is your imagination!

Royalty : examples - King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Duke, Duchess, etc!
Are you spoiled sweet, or rotten and rich? Cursed because of your vanity, or seeking to find your one true love? A runaway bride, defiant rebel, or slave to tradition?

Commoner: examples – Servant, Peasant, Knight, etc!
Are you an indentured servant thanks to a cruel family, or a simple peasant who sings to the birds? Ready to go an epic quest to prove your worth, or just trying to keep your loved ones safe and sound? Longing for more, content in your ways, or indifferent to status?

Trickster: Fairy Godmother, Enchantress, Big Bad Wolf, Genie, etc!
You’re not quite human, except perhaps for your heart? Do you try to help those less fortunate, or pick on silly mortals for fun? Are you a member of the Fae, or a dragon guarding their horde? Trying to teach a lesson, greedily taking what you think is yours, or curious about the way the other half lives?

Beauty and the Beast:
One person’s trapped in a monstrous form, the other is the cure! Unless you like your new body, and your true love is down with claws and scales. Hey, you do you.

Cinderella:
It’s a ball! Spice it up, make it a masquerade if you please! Royals and rags mix together under the sparkling lights for a dance of epic romantic proportions!

Red Riding Hood:
Onc’s a red-colored quester, the other’s a big bad wolf. Together they… fight crime! Or make out. Or antagonize each other. Or all of the above!

Rapunzel:
Have some oddly familial time with kidnapped kid and witch/warlock, or be the confused traveler who comes across the world’s most epic ponytail! Or beard, long as you climb gently.

The Little Mermaid:
The oh-so-classic tale of fishing for love! Or maybe the Sea Witch wants some action too. Go for the Disney sweetness of exploring the human world, or the agony of ‘de feet’ as every step is walking pain.

Of course, these are only a handful of fairytales, it’d be impossible to list them all. Go for what you’re craving! If you want to use a story that you’re not sure others will be familiar with, don’t hesitate to drop a link or a video – who doesn’t enjoy learning a new story? Or mix two or more stories together! These are only suggestions, go with what your inner author tells you!

True Love’s Kiss:
The cure-all to end all cure-alls! But maybe the cheek or forehead will count, as will the love of a family member or friend! Maybe neither of you even realized your feelings until that moment, oops!

Happy Haunts:
A spooky location, with sad tales of lost loves waiting for their intended on the other side. Are they trying to lure you to your death, or helping you avoid a similar fate?

Life’s A Happy Song:
This is “Tricksters Are Assholes” prompt. You got cursed to sing all the time! Or have frogs/jewels pop out of your mouth every time you speak! Or they’re giving you an impossible quest – hold onto your beloved if you want to keep them, even if they turn into ice or water!

[ Regretfully he takes a step back, pulling away from her. ] S-Sorry, I uh...I need to get going.

What?! Why? The ball's not over!

[And she takes a step forward.]

[ He takes a step back instinctively, holding his hands up as if that would be enough of a barrier between them. ] Well, uh...y'know, there's still...a lot to do before the ball ends. Like, uh... [ THINK OF SOMETHING ] I still gotta, uh...meet the princess!

... Oh, is that all?

[Be grateful that didn't turn into an anime oujou OOOOOHOHOHOHOHO. She struts, putting her fingers up to her mask, and taking it off.]

It's a little early, but... I am Princess Daisy.

[ He sucks in a breath, his eyes widening underneath his mask. This whole time...he'd been chatting and dancing with the princess? Holy sh- The clock tower chimes a second time, and already Donald can feel the effects of the magic buzzing around him, pulling him out of his stupor. Tearing his eyes away from her to look at the clock, he chokes back a panicked sound. ] ...W-Well uh...itwasnicemeetingyouprinccessbye! [ His words are jumbled together as he abruptly turns and makes a dash for the door. ]

[What Daisy expected -

"Oh, the princess! I am ever so humbled! Truly, your beauty shines so splendidly, I am almost at a loss for words! Before your grand visage reduces my mind to sheer buffoonery, let me offer you this - my hand in marriage!"

What Daisy didn't expect -

... Three seconds pass in stunned shock. Then, on second four-]

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?! YOU GET BACK HERE AND FINISH DANCING WITH ME!

[It's not easy to run in heels, but the effort's being made.]

[ Donald isn't sure which is louder - the next chime of the clock tower, or Daisy's voice calling after him. The latter definitely gets other people's attention, though, and he pushes past them as he makes a mad scramble for the door. Luckily his carriage his already waiting for him as he descends the steps nearly three at a time. In his hurry, though, he stumbles, and his mask is jostled off his face and lands on the ground. ]

[No one is quite sure what's going on - and given Daisy's mad look as she bowls people over, they're not sure they wanna know.

When she spots him fumbling down the stairs, she grabs a nearby guard and yoinks his sword.

Boy better ruuuuuuuuun faster.]

NO ONE REJECTS PRINCESS DAISY!

[Or lives to tell about it, apparently.]

[ He feels exposed without his mask, but he can't risk going back to get it now, especially with Daisy right behind him. And if someone he knows happens to see him, he'll never hear the end of it.

He practically flies down the remaining steps and dives into the carriage's open door, barely getting a chance to close it before the carriage takes off towards the castle gates. ]

YOUUUUUUU!

[She throws the sword at the carriage, but it's already gone. She's shaking with rage as she picks up the discarded mask. Very reluctantly, a few servants begin to approach, quietly asking if her highness is all right.]

... Get daddy. Tell him to make a royal proclamation. You guys are going to find the owner of this mask.

[Understandably, there are some "ummms" and "huh?"s.]

I want you to try this on every single man in this kingdom! EVERY SINGLE ONE! And when you find the one it belongs to... You will bring him to me! THAT'S AN ORDER!

[ Completely unaware of the new order that is about to go through, Donald can only sit nervously as the carriage speeds back to the farm. It makes it about halfway there when the last chime from the clock tower echoes through the town, signifying it was officially midnight. The magic buzzes around them, and everything that was touched by it starts reverting back to normal. Donald just manages to squeeze himself out of the carriage window before it turns back into a pumpkin. As he sits on the dirt road, he takes a moment to just breathe as he looks at the pumpkin, then at his clothes, partially to take stock of himself, but mostly verifying that everything had changed back to the way it was before. No proof that he had ever been at the palace ball. ...It was just as well. There was no way he was going to be able to explain any of that to anyone. Picking himself up, he dusts himself off, and starts making the rest of his way home, ready to clean up and go to bed, and chalk all of this night up to a wonderful dream that was never real in the first place. Because him...dancing with the princess? Who'd ever believe something like that? He certainly couldn't. ]

[Donald sleeps in late for once, perhaps as a result of the fun/panic he had that night. The world moves on without him, until...]

Hey, Sleeping Beauty, gunna waste the whole day away?

[There comes his twin sister, lovingly trying to noogie him awake.]

[ He grunts in protest, lazily trying to wave her off and pull the covers over his head. ]

Just gimme a few more minutes.

[ He knows he's pushing it. There's no way he can explain why he was so tired when they had all gotten home later than he did. But he didn't want to get up yet, if only so he could keep his eyes shut and think about his dance with Daisy a little longer.

Before he had to let it go. ]

Come on, lazybones! I wanna gossip with someone, and you're all I've got!

[She playfully tugs on the covers.]

This morning, a bunch of guys from the castle put up all these posters pretty much everywhere. Apparently these was a huge ruckus at that ball last night!

[ He sighs, and uses his blanket to wipe the remaining sleep from his eyes as he yawns. ]

Yeah? What happened?

[ He's not really thinking as he asks. The words come out automatically, just to get her to leave him alone sooner. ]

[She sits on the bed, reading from the poster. She makes sure to put on a hoity-toity accent, of course.]

'A rrrrroyal decree! At sun up this very day, all men of the kingdom should expect a visit from servants of the castle. They shall be undergo a fitting of a mask that was left behind at the ball, and he who fits the mask shall be escorted to the castle to be wedded to her royal highness, Princess Daisy'.

[ Donald freezes, his heart skipping a beat. ] ...What? [ Oh no no no, this can't be happening... ]

[sos_pilot]

I know, right?

[She laughs, shaking her head.]

Guess this guy must've made a big impression on her... or else she's nuttier than a fruitcake. It's a mask, it'll probably fit on the first guy they try it on.

[Unless, say, it was a magic mask.]

[ ...well, sure it was made by magic, but that doesn't mean that the mask itself was magic, right? So Donald let himself relax a little, reassured by his sister's words. ]

Y-Yeah...it'd probably fit anyone.

[ ...except it wasn't much of a comfort, because he didn't want it to fit anyone else. It was his mask, his moment with Princess Daisy. She was looking for him, even though he was sure she would be disappointed when she actually met him.

...if she actually met him. ]

Still, I guess if they meant everyone, they do mean everyone... we should expect a visit, huh? Put on my best dress and everything!

[She laughs again, looking at Donald...

... Wait, why isn't he laughing?]

... What's the matter?

[ Her question pulls him out of his musings, and he shakes his head. ] Nothing. I'm just tired. [ He throws a spare shirt at her. ] Get out of my room so I can change. [ He just needed a bit of time alone to get his thoughts sorted. ]

[Weird... what kind of night did he have?]

All right... well, breakfast will be waiting for you.

[And so, she heads out.]

[ He waits for a long while after she leaves, releasing the breath he was holding. Then he takes his time getting dressed and washed up, all the while thinking of the night before and the order that was put out. There was no way he would be able to admit that it was him dancing with the princess that night. How could he explain where he had gotten the clothes, the carriage, the mask? And even if he did come clean about it, what then? To get taken to the palace...after the way he'd left, he'd be lucky if the princess didn't lock him away or something. Besides, it isn't like he had much to offer her. What would a simple farmhand like him give to the princess? Still...he hated the thought of someone else fitting the mask, and getting her attention when they didn't deserve it. That she would think that she was looking for someone else, when he was the one who danced with her that night. He groans to himself, confused and frustrated. He should've just stayed home. After a long while, he eventually - finally - comes down for breakfast. Maybe if he concentrates on his chores, he can forget about all this for a while. ]

[And, well, his username says it all - just his luck that the moment he comes down for breakfast? Della is letting in one of those official royal servants.]

Yeah, sure, come on in! My brother will be down here any second, he's the only adult guy in the house, so you can just pop the mask on and go. But take some breakfast with you, I made plenty! ... And some of it isn't even burnt!
