WELCOME TO THE FAIRYTALE MEME

Welcome to the Fairytale Meme, where it’s time to indulge in your happiest happily ever afters or your grimmest Grimm tales! I’ll provide the tropes, you provide the characters! Leave a blank comment or list your preferences! Pick and choose, RNG, or plot with a pal to come up with a story that suits you best! Of course, if there are tales, roles, or 'spells' you’d like to try that aren’t listed, go for them anyway! The only limit is your imagination! 

-CHARACTERS-

Royalty : examples - King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Duke, Duchess, etc!
Are you spoiled sweet, or rotten and rich? Cursed because of your vanity, or seeking to find your one true love? A runaway bride, defiant rebel, or slave to tradition?

Commoner: examples – Servant, Peasant, Knight, etc!
Are you an indentured servant thanks to a cruel family, or a simple peasant who sings to the birds? Ready to go an epic quest to prove your worth, or just trying to keep your loved ones safe and sound? Longing for more, content in your ways, or indifferent to status?

Trickster: Fairy Godmother, Enchantress, Big Bad Wolf, Genie, etc!
You’re not quite human, except perhaps for your heart? Do you try to help those less fortunate, or pick on silly mortals for fun? Are you a member of the Fae, or a dragon guarding their horde? Trying to teach a lesson, greedily taking what you think is yours, or curious about the way the other half lives?

Beauty and the Beast:
One person’s trapped in a monstrous form, the other is the cure! Unless you like your new body, and your true love is down with claws and scales. Hey, you do you.

Cinderella:
It’s a ball! Spice it up, make it a masquerade if you please! Royals and rags mix together under the sparkling lights for a dance of epic romantic proportions!

Red Riding Hood:
Onc’s a red-colored quester, the other’s a big bad wolf. Together they… fight crime! Or make out. Or antagonize each other. Or all of the above!

Rapunzel:
Have some oddly familial time with kidnapped kid and witch/warlock, or be the confused traveler who comes across the world’s most epic ponytail! Or beard, long as you climb gently.

The Little Mermaid:
The oh-so-classic tale of fishing for love! Or maybe the Sea Witch wants some action too. Go for the Disney sweetness of exploring the human world, or the agony of ‘de feet’ as every step is walking pain.

Of course, these are only a handful of fairytales, it’d be impossible to list them all. Go for what you’re craving! If you want to use a story that you’re not sure others will be familiar with, don’t hesitate to drop a link or a video – who doesn’t enjoy learning a new story? Or mix two or more stories together! These are only suggestions, go with what your inner author tells you!

True Love’s Kiss:
The cure-all to end all cure-alls! But maybe the cheek or forehead will count, as will the love of a family member or friend! Maybe neither of you even realized your feelings until that moment, oops!

Happy Haunts:
A spooky location, with sad tales of lost loves waiting for their intended on the other side. Are they trying to lure you to your death, or helping you avoid a similar fate?

Life’s A Happy Song:
This is “Tricksters Are Assholes” prompt. You got cursed to sing all the time! Or have frogs/jewels pop out of your mouth every time you speak! Or they’re giving you an impossible quest – hold onto your beloved if you want to keep them, even if they turn into ice or water!

[ He gets to his feet, eyeing the mask nervously. ]

H-Hey uh...has Gladstone dropped by?

[ Surely if the mask would fit anyone else, it'd be his furiously-lucky cousin...even while he hates thinking of that fact. ]

[The servant checks his papers - "Mmm, no, a mister Gladstone Gander has already been checked. Now, if you'd put this on?" - and then puts the mask out in his hand.]

Really? Gladdy didn't get it? ... Well, I guess to him, ending bachelorhood would be bad luck.

[allthebadluck]

[ ...of course. Completely out of options, he takes the mask in both hands. Looking at it for a moment, he slowly raises it to his face, and winces as he puts it on. A perfect fit. ]

[sos_pilot]

[A long, long, LONG stretch of silence follows. Della's jaw drops open, and even the servant seems a bit perplexed.

Eventually, the servant clears his throat. "Well. That's... interesting! I... guess I'd better escort you to the palace."]

... Wait.

["If you'd just follow me, I'll take you there right away."]

Wait -

["Her highness had the whole day cleared, so we won't have to-"]

HANG ON A SECOND! My brother can't just... up and get married like that!

[allthebadluck]

[ Tearing the mask off, he shoves it back into the hands of the servant. ] R-Right...! Besides, there has to be someone else who'd fit this mask! You shouldn't be so hasty! Aren't there other people you need to check?

[sos_pilot]

["Didn't you both read the decree? The one who fits, and you fit."]

But look at him! He's a smelly, poor, filthy sailor! There's no way the princess would want anything to do with Donald!

[... she's trying to help

["... Regardless. The princess will have my head if I don't get you."]

[ THANKS SIS Thinking for another moment, he sighs. ] ...Fine. [ Once she sees him, she'll probably change her mind anyway. ]

["Thank you, sir. Right this way." Out he goes.

Della wordlessly gestures before laughing nervously.]

Listen... I'm sure this is all one big misunderstanding. You just... say a few niceties to princess hoity-toity, and I bet you'll be back before lunch. Just don't lose your temper.

[Please, for the love of god.]

[ He manages a weak smile. ] Sure... [ He's pretty doubtful of that, but thanks for trying anyway, sis. ]

[And so, the brave young man was led to the led to the palace. The decorations from the ball were still in the process of being taken down, so most ignored him. The servant and the sailor headed for the throne room, and the servant knocking three times.

"Your highness? We have found the man the mask fits."

A beat of silence, then a familiar voice. "Send him in. Alone."

With that, the servant stepped aside, signaling for him to enter. And possibly giving a quick sign of the cross for Donald's fate.

Inside, Princess Daisy would be sitting atop her throne, wearing a fancy new blue dress, hair dolled up in a different way than the night before, holding a thick fluffy fan in front of her mouth.]

[ He swallows nervously as he's left alone with the princess, and he makes a quick bow to avoid look at her. ] Y...Y-Your highness.

[allfortheloveofyou]

[Her free hand begins tapping on her arm rest.]

... You understand you have plenty of explaining to do.

[allthebadluck]

[ He winces a bit, twisting the hem of his shirt in his hands. ]

I'm, uh...sorry, your majesty. But I'm sure you can see by now why I didn't stay.

[ As he gestures to himself, she would of course be able to see the old, worn out and overly mended clothes he wore, which is a stark contrast to the ornate coat and mask he'd worn at the ball. ]

... I'll admit, it's quite a wardrobe change... which begs the question, why were you in fancier attire then, and not so now?

[One doesn't go from fancy shmancy to second hand stuff without good reason, supposedly.]

[ He sighs, softly, still not meeting her gaze. ] This...is who I really am. The way I was during the ball...that was just a one-time thing.

Hmmmm.

[Perhaps he used up all his savings for one night of happiness. That would explain a lot.

She snaps her fan shut, standing up.]

Then I only have one more question for you.

[Dramatically pointing at him with her fan...]

... What are your clothing sizes?

[allthebadluck]

[ The gesture with her fan has him stepping back, as he prepares for the worst. So her question catches him off-guard, and he can only stare at her for a moment. ] ...huh?

I said, what are your clothing sizes? We can't very well start on your groom tuxedo without it.

[Groom.

As in marriage.

As in the wedding she said in the decree.]

[allthebadluck]

[ He stares at her for a long, quiet moment, not sure if he heard right. ] ...you...still wanna marry me?

[allfortheloveofyou]

Of course I do! You're way more interesting than all those other snobby suitors! I don't care about what you wear, I care about who you are!

[allthebadluck]

[ His heart skips a beat, and for a moment he allows himself to hope that this could actual work. That someone like the princess could really want to marry someone like him. But life has given him too many disappointments, and as much as he wanted to just go for it, something was still holding him back. ] But I'm...I'm not good enough for you! I'm just a farmer and a sailor...my family could never even afford a dowry or anything.

[allfortheloveofyou]

Then they don't have to give me one. I'm already fabulously wealthy.

[And modest, to boot.

But now she's getting suspicious and leans in, eyes narrowed.]

Are you saying you don't want to marry me?

[allthebadluck]

N-No...! That's not what I'm saying at all! I just... [ He sighs. ] I don't have anything good enough to offer you.

[Oh good, she doesn't have to chase him with weaponry again.

She takes her fan and puts it under his beak, tilting his head up.]

If we were married, would you be kind and gentle? Would you tell me tales of the sea whenever I asked? Would you be your real self?

[allthebadluck]

[ His heart leaps into his throat as he's forced to look at her, and for a moment he forgets how to breathe. ] Of...Of course. You may not...like my real self, though.
