WELCOME TO THE RESCUE ME MEME

Mugged, kidnapping, held hostage, imprisoned, arranged marriage – one way or another, your character needs a rescue pronto! This meme is about exploring all the different ways of rescuing, so mix and match your favorite tropes! Drop your character, your preferences, and whether you’d like them to be rescued, the rescuer, or both! This also doesn’t have to be shippy – save a friend, a family member, an enemy, or a complete stranger, because everyone could use a hero!

Original Flavor
Your standard save! Burst onto the scene! Take down the bad guys! Save the victim! It doesn’t have to be needlessly complicated to be fun!

Disguise The Limit
Work smarter, not harder. Instead of a big fancy entrance, disguise yourself as one of the guards or the big baddy themselves to sneak past and save the day. Hope you’re good at acting!

Teamwork = Dreamwork
This is about partnering up to save the day! Two heads, or more, are better than one – are you reluctant enemies working for the same cause, or do you all care about each other just that much?

Making Mistakes
You thought they were in danger, but… oops. A light misunderstanding, “it’s not what it looks like”, or your victim was the enemy all along! Better have a back-up plan, in case you make more trouble than you planned to solve!

Last Second Switch
You’re one of the baddies who was in on this from the start, but now you’re having second thoughts. Is the plan going too far, or did you wind up caring for the victim? It’s up to you to stop this at the last possible moment – or take advantage of your power and help the victim escape in a sneakier way.

Saving Screw-Up
You were trying to be the big hero… and instead you wound up in the same trouble as the victim. Now you’re sharing a jail cell, or tied up next to them, maybe they’ll even switch victims since you’re a better target! A for effort, at least?

Accidentally Awesome
You were just going about your business and suddenly stumbled into a crime! Sure, you could just walk on, but you’re not that type of person! Even though you don’t know anything about the situation, step in and show them your stuff! Your ordinary day just got a whole lot weirder!

It’s Up To Me
This is taking way too long – save yourself! Kick some ass, take some names, and then… run into the person or people who were trying to save you. Maybe you’ll be the one saving them instead!

Rescue Sex
Don’t you worry, dirty birdies, I got you. Nothing quite says “hot” like watching someone get extremely feral in trying to save you. Hey, if you don’t even make it home before the clothes come off, we don’t blame you.

Here are a few other small tropes to work with, and there’s even more here if you want more spice!

• Seduce the guard/baddy into letting you go or grabbing the keys!
• Minions saving baddy from heroes!
• You’re saving a beloved pet, or a precious artifact!

[ Hesitating for a moment, Dorian then shakes his head. The guards have been careful to not give him enough food or water to recover entirely, so he isn't sure how many spells he'd be capable of at the moment. ]

Quiznak...

[It's tempting to see if he can cast Invisibility on just himself, save himself and let her escape later, but she knows he'd never agree to that, and her people need her alive and free.]

Hm... I might be able to transfer energy to you so you can cast the spell on us both, but as I said, we'll need to move quickly.

[Not to mention Allura will likely be weakened significantly. Using that same ability on blighted land to heal a curse drained her of spell slots and hit points to the point of collapse, nearly unconsciousness. Hopefully Dorian being just one person will mitigate that somewhat, but it's still a risk.]

[ Well, it's all they have so far, so it's worth a try. But for the moment he is still bound and stuck in the cell, so... ]

[Alright, no objections, so... a second to ready the scroll and a knife.]

One, two... Welsa!

[The door to the cell bursts wide with a loud, echoing "knock," and Allura nearly lunges forward to cut Dorian free, trying to be careful not to nick him in the process. Once he's free, one arm wraps around his shoulders while the other places itself on his forehead, both of them glowing a soft cyan as she pours energy into him.]

[ He braces himself as best as he can when the door bursts open, and once he feels his hands free he reaches up to remove the gag. He can feel the energy feeding into him, and his own magic hums at his fingertips. ]

...Okay. [ When he feels that he has enough, he takes her hand and removes it from his forehead, but keeps holding on as he casts Invisibility on her first. Then, making sure he has enough for at least another spell just in case, he casts Invisibility on himself as well, keeping a hold on her so they would know where each other is. ]

[Oof... thankfully she has enough energy left to not collapse, but it still takes her a few seconds to hand, not letting go of Dorian's hand. She's just keeping a hold of him and helping him to his feet, that's all.

Just in time too, because it's then that a flood of guard all but bust down the stairway door and rush down to the cells. Allura has to clap her free hand over her mouth to keep from gasping, and to still her breathing from the exertion.]

"Dammit! Where'd he go so fast?!"

"Looks like he managed to cut himself free, I TOLD you to use the metal handcuffs, but nooo!"

[ As some of the guards enter the cell to inspect it, Dorian gently leads Allura up against the wall, keeping a hand in front of her just in case they get too close, and holds his breath to keep from making any sound. ]

"Well, he can't have gotten too far. Let's go!"

[The other guards nod and race out of the hall and back up the stairs, and as they do Allura tugs Dorian's hand to follow in their wake. The spell should last for a full hour as long as they don't attack or cast more magic, but they'll likely start stealing exits soon, so they need to escape before they're boxed in.]

[ It's difficult to really coordinate anything while they're both invisible, but he follows her as best as he can. He doesn't know much about this place, having been unconscious during his arrival here, so he has to rely on her knowledge to lead them out. ]

[Thankfully Allura had scoped out the place a little bit, on her way to find where they were holding him. And not only did the kitchen have a door leading outside, it was easy to access and not likely to be seen as a priority. They just needed to hurry before the guards warned whomever was on kitchen duty.]

[ He does his best to stick close to her, not just so he knows where he is but also to prevent being separated from her by guards that might run between them otherwise. He continues holding his breath as well, just to maximize their stealth as much as possible. ]

[Come on, come on... they reach the kitchen right in the middle of a lull, only one or two hands cleaning up. Allura tugs on Dorian's hand, but before they can make their way to the door, a pair of guards rush in behind them to shout at the kitchen hands.]

"Bar the door, we've got a prisoner on the loose!"

[ Dorian just barely hears the guards coming up behind him, and pushes Allura up against the wall as he presses himself against it as well, keeping an arm in front of her so that they're out of the way as much as possible.

But he curses to himself as the kitchen hands follow the commands they're given, sealing the doors and making escape out that way pretty impossible.

Now what? ]

[What indeed...? At least the guards who gave the order are quick to scramble away and finish securing the compound. (And at least Dorian's arm is nice over her torso FOCUS, WOMAN.) The kitchen staff, though... they need distracting. Hm.... what if they knock something over, like... that big cauldron of stew simmering over the hearth?]

[ Dorian sees the cauldron as well, and he gets an idea. He casts Levitation to lift it up, just enough to get it off its hook and then immediately lets it drop back down, sending its contents splatter all across the ground. ]

[And THAT is the sound of a handful of cooks swearing like sailors as they rush to try and contain the spill, and see how much of the soup they need to remake. Allura carefully tugs Dorian around the scene and to the door. Maybe if they lift the bar slowly enough, they can slip out before anyone notices.]

[ He does his best to avoid the people and any puddles of soup, not wanting to give themselves away. Once they get to the bar, he hesitates for a moment, because trying to lift the bar would require both sets of hands, but letting go meant it'd be easier to get separated later.

(The only reason he's hesitant to let go of her hand, clearly.)

Still, what choice did they have? ]

[Well, there's an easy solution for that. (Because Allura has similar worries. For practical teammate reasons, of course.) For the center, she guides Dorian's hand towards the center and places her hand over his. There... now they can lift together AND keep contact. On the back of his hand, she taps three fingers, two fingers, one finger, and LIFT.]

[ He follows her direction, and on three he helps to lift the bar. With the two of them, they're able to lift the bar pretty easily, but Dorian glances back to make sure that the cooks aren't paying attention. ]

[So far so good; the group is pretty darn focused on cleaning up and starting a new pot of soup. As long as they can set the bar down and open the door quietly, they'll be home free. ... Hopefully the hinges have been oiled recently.]

[ The other problem is what to do with the bar as they open the door. It's more likely to be noticed if they set it aside, but trying to keep it up would slow them down and make them easier to catch anyway.

They didn't have a lot of time left. ]

[Honestly, leaving it might be best, make it look like the kitchen staff forgot to get to the door. Just need to slowly put it down, slip through the door, and close it before making a mad dash. As long as more guards don't run in and the backside of the castle is lightly guarded, they should be fine.]

[ He follows her lead, putting the bar down slowly and slipping out the door. There's already a mad scramble of guards in the courtyard, though, trying to make sure that there wouldn't be any chance for the prisoner (him) to escape.

He doesn't have a chance to tell her, and hopes she won't be too offended as he suddenly tugs her back towards him and scoops her into his arms. Then he clicks his heels together to activate his winged boots to lift into the air. ]

[Oh. That... that certainly works. It's probably a very good thing that they're both invisible right now, her face certainly feels like it's burning. She's just... going to wrap her arms around his shoulders. For security reasons.]

[ Yes of course, that makes perfect sense. Hopefully she doesn't feel the way his heart kicks up, being so close, as he continues to fly as far away from the camp as they could get in four hours.

Though once he's sure they're far enough away, he'll let both their Invisibility drop. ]
