THE RESCUE ME MEME

WELCOME TO THE RESCUE ME MEME

Mugged, kidnapping, held hostage, imprisoned, arranged marriage – one way or another, your character needs a rescue pronto! This meme is about exploring all the different ways of rescuing, so mix and match your favorite tropes! Drop your character, your preferences, and whether you’d like them to be rescued, the rescuer, or both! This also doesn’t have to be shippy – save a friend, a family member, an enemy, or a complete stranger, because everyone could use a hero!

Original Flavor
Your standard save! Burst onto the scene! Take down the bad guys! Save the victim! It doesn’t have to be needlessly complicated to be fun!

Disguise The Limit
Work smarter, not harder. Instead of a big fancy entrance, disguise yourself as one of the guards or the big baddy themselves to sneak past and save the day. Hope you’re good at acting!

Teamwork = Dreamwork
This is about partnering up to save the day! Two heads, or more, are better than one – are you reluctant enemies working for the same cause, or do you all care about each other just that much?

Making Mistakes
You thought they were in danger, but… oops. A light misunderstanding, “it’s not what it looks like”, or your victim was the enemy all along! Better have a back-up plan, in case you make more trouble than you planned to solve!

Last Second Switch
You’re one of the baddies who was in on this from the start, but now you’re having second thoughts. Is the plan going too far, or did you wind up caring for the victim? It’s up to you to stop this at the last possible moment – or take advantage of your power and help the victim escape in a sneakier way.

Saving Screw-Up
You were trying to be the big hero… and instead you wound up in the same trouble as the victim. Now you’re sharing a jail cell, or tied up next to them, maybe they’ll even switch victims since you’re a better target! A for effort, at least?

Accidentally Awesome
You were just going about your business and suddenly stumbled into a crime! Sure, you could just walk on, but you’re not that type of person! Even though you don’t know anything about the situation, step in and show them your stuff! Your ordinary day just got a whole lot weirder!

It’s Up To Me
This is taking way too long – save yourself! Kick some ass, take some names, and then… run into the person or people who were trying to save you. Maybe you’ll be the one saving them instead!

Rescue Sex
Don’t you worry, dirty birdies, I got you. Nothing quite says “hot” like watching someone get extremely feral in trying to save you. Hey, if you don’t even make it home before the clothes come off, we don’t blame you.

[ It had been a bit of carelessness on Luisa's part that landed her getting captured; she had been patrolling the outskirts of her hometown when she'd been ambushed by a group of men. They didn't say who they were or what they wanted, other than to drag her somewhere, but while she'd managed to fight against them for the most part, one snuck up behind her and knocked her out.

She didn't know where they had taken her, or how long she'd been out, but she'd woken up to the sounds of the guards talking pretty loudly in front of her cell, and had seen the woman in the cell across from hers. The guards also didn't seem to notice that she was awake, giving her time to feel how she'd been bound.

Testing her hands, she could feel that it didn't seem to be more than rope. That was certainly fortunate...but how to break free without the guards noticing? ]

[Huh. Allura blinks as she watches the girl test the ropes. They must have caught her later and run out of chains. She seems capable. Maybe...

Allura gives an exaggerated eye roll and grounds loudly at the guards.]

For the love of the Ancients, there is no "x" in "espresso," and darker roasts have LESS caffeine and not more! If you're going to prattle on and on about coffee, at least get your facts straight so you don't sound like a complete imbecile!

[ Luisa looks over when the guards do, a little surprised. But when she sees the guards turn towards the other prisoner, she recognizes the opportunity she's been given and works more at the rope. ]

"Hey, what was that?" [ The guard nearest to Allura's cell rattles a gun against the bars. ] "You better watch what you say."

[Ah, right, guns.]

Y-you heard me! You could have at least gagged me, and banging your gun like that is going to ruin its aim, let alone risk an accidental discharge.

[ Honestly, the ropes are impossibly easy to break out of, and Luisa manages to snap them soon enough. Then as quietly as she can she gets to her feet, creeping up behind the two guards while they're distracted by the other woman.

They're standing close enough to her cell door that it's simple enough to reach out, and she slams their heads together, knocking them out cold. ]

[Oh thank everything. Allura lets out a DEEP sigh as she relaxes; she had no idea if the girl would just run off or it the goons would fire before she could reach them.]

Thank you. Remind me never to taunt a guard with a firearm again.

[ Fortunately the guards fell pretty close by, so Luisa is able to find the keys on one of them and work to open her cell. ]

That was pretty risky. [ Walking over, she unlocks Allura's cell and enters to help undo her binds. ] But it was a great distraction, thank you.

[A light nod.]

You're welcome. I suppose we're lucky our captors didn't think through putting you in mere ropes. My name is Allura.

Yeah. I don't know if they underestimated me or what, but it worked out either way.

[ She makes short work of Allura's binds, then gets to her feet and holds out a hand to help her up. ]

I'm Luisa.

[Allura appreciates the hand up, giving a light nod in thanks as she lets go.]

The question is, now what? The others could come back any time now.

[ She pauses a moment, taking a moment to try and listen outside. It didn't seem like anyone was coming just yet, but it wouldn't stay that way for long. ]

I guess we don't have any other choice but to try and find a way out of here.

Agreed.

[At least it's just a simple camp in the wilderness on the way to their real headquarters, and the goons just lumped everything their prisoners were carrying in a pile to divvy up later.]

[ Honestly, Luisa hadn't had much on her before she'd gotten capture besides the clothes on her back. But she waits for Allura if she has anything to gather, because at this point it'd be better to stick together. ]

I don't really have anything that's too useful besides my strength.

[ Which, admittedly, is good for a lot of things. But trying to sneak around, not so much. ]

That will still be good in case we have another confrontation, but hopefully we can avoid that. And you likely have a better idea of the terrain than I do.

[She's just a visitor in these lands. Worst vacation ever.]

[ Luisa hesitates. ] A little bit, maybe.

[ She knows a bit more than the other woman, probably, though this is really her first time past her home. Hopefully it'll be enough. ]

[It's not long at all before they reach the door.]

Let's see... There must be a stable around here somewhere. I remember mules, but they might have horses as well, if they didn't take them all when they left.

[ Luisa nods a little, carefully pushing the door open just a crack to peek out, enough to check and make sure the coast was clear. ]

Yeah, I think I remember seeing some horses when they brought me in. I'm not entirely sure where they might be from here, though.

Likely not far from the main house, to make sure they're not stolen or hunted by wild animals.

[Allura stops them so they can peer around a corner, and sure enough, there's a small stucco stable and paddock. And plenty of rested horses and mules. The real question is if there are any people...]

[ There didn't seem to be anyone nearby, so it was safe to sneak over to the stable. But it also looked like there was a kind of lock to keep it secure.

It wouldn't be difficult to break, of course, at least not for Luisa, but she knows that that would cause a lot of noise. ]

...Okay, I think I'll be able to break this, but we'll have to be quick to get some horses since it'll probably attract some attention.

Fast I can do, at least. We don't have much time until our guards come to anyway. One... two...

[ Luisa nods, and gets into position as Allura begins to count. Then... ]

...three!

[ And she punches the lock, which not only breaks it, but also the gate door as well, causing it to splinter and collapse in a clatter. ]

[And it's a mad dash for the stables. Good news, plenty of horses. Bad news, plenty of horses panicked about the sudden noise and now darting and rearing about, making it very difficult to not get shoved or stomped, let alone to tack up and mount.]

Whoa, whoa, easy!

["Whoa" works in the movies, doesn't it?]

[ Luisa stays by the broken gate, and inevitably a couple of horses try to run past. But she holds her ground and manages to stop them in their tracks, while simultaneously trying to calm them down. ]

Shh, shh...I'm sorry, I know. It's okay.

[ And maybe it's surprise that she hadn't even moved, that she had almost just picked them up just to keep them from charging forward. But while they're still a bit spooked they've stopped running. So there's that, at least? ]

[Wow. Allura's impressed, not just by the strength, but that the horses seem to calm down quickly. (She's not blushing, YOU'RE blushing.)]

Huh. You didn't include animal handling in your skills.
