THE RESCUE ME MEME
WELCOME TO THE RESCUE ME MEME
Mugged, kidnapping, held hostage, imprisoned, arranged marriage – one way or another, your character needs a rescue pronto! This meme is about exploring all the different ways of rescuing, so mix and match your favorite tropes! Drop your character, your preferences, and whether you’d like them to be rescued, the rescuer, or both! This also doesn’t have to be shippy – save a friend, a family member, an enemy, or a complete stranger, because everyone could use a hero!
Original Flavor
Your standard save! Burst onto the scene! Take down the bad guys! Save the victim! It doesn’t have to be needlessly complicated to be fun!
Disguise The Limit
Work smarter, not harder. Instead of a big fancy entrance, disguise yourself as one of the guards or the big baddy themselves to sneak past and save the day. Hope you’re good at acting!
Teamwork = Dreamwork
This is about partnering up to save the day! Two heads, or more, are better than one – are you reluctant enemies working for the same cause, or do you all care about each other just that much?
Making Mistakes
You thought they were in danger, but… oops. A light misunderstanding, “it’s not what it looks like”, or your victim was the enemy all along! Better have a back-up plan, in case you make more trouble than you planned to solve!
Last Second Switch
You’re one of the baddies who was in on this from the start, but now you’re having second thoughts. Is the plan going too far, or did you wind up caring for the victim? It’s up to you to stop this at the last possible moment – or take advantage of your power and help the victim escape in a sneakier way.
Saving Screw-Up
You were trying to be the big hero… and instead you wound up in the same trouble as the victim. Now you’re sharing a jail cell, or tied up next to them, maybe they’ll even switch victims since you’re a better target! A for effort, at least?
Accidentally Awesome
You were just going about your business and suddenly stumbled into a crime! Sure, you could just walk on, but you’re not that type of person! Even though you don’t know anything about the situation, step in and show them your stuff! Your ordinary day just got a whole lot weirder!
It’s Up To Me
This is taking way too long – save yourself! Kick some ass, take some names, and then… run into the person or people who were trying to save you. Maybe you’ll be the one saving them instead!
Rescue Sex
Don’t you worry, dirty birdies, I got you. Nothing quite says “hot” like watching someone get extremely feral in trying to save you. Hey, if you don’t even make it home before the clothes come off, we don’t blame you.
Here are a few other small tropes to work with, and there’s even more here if you want more spice!
- Seduce the guard/baddy into letting you go or grabbing the keys!
- Minions saving baddy from heroes!
- You’re saving a beloved pet, or a precious artifact!
Say it with me now… I NEED A HERO!

let me know if you want any changes!
In hindsight, it had been so clearly been a trap. Yet there she'd gone, right into enemy territory, not even thinking of telling anyone or getting back-up... she didn't even ride on her damned horse! And now Gangrel and his forces would gleefully try to extort the Fire Emblem out Ylisse's hands, leaving them weak and vulnerable, all because of her. How many would die because of her own foolish actions? She blinked rapidly, trying to fight away any tears that threatened to form.
The two bulking guards wouldn't even look at her, ignoring her plight. They were awaiting further orders from Gangrel or Aversa, and Maribelle wasn't sure who she'd dread to see more. But, damn it all... she couldn't fight it anymore, as her eyes began to flood with tears. ]
Gods, please... Don't let me be the cause of the fall of House Ylisse...

Hei had been carefully moving about the small fortress, picking off guards as they ventured into the shadows. For as strong as he was, taking on an army would be suicidal. However, the night favored him, and the darkness was but another tool to be used. Eventually, Maribelle might be able to feel the presence of Hei behind her, the young man's face covered in a mask. If she looked up, she could see an opening made, the skylight opened for ease of access. Somehow, he had remained quiet all this time.
The silence would soon as he dashed forward, his knife plunging into the back of one of the guard's necks. The other was startled, scared at the sudden intruder. The split-second of fear was all Hei needed, reaching out his hand and covering the other man's mouth. It seemed to glow, sparks of electricity flying and shocking the other guard violently. His body shook for a few seconds, before falling limp to the ground, his eyes rolling into the back of his head.
Hei had casually turned around, moving towards Maribelle, expecting her to be scared given the level of violence; either that or pure shock, which was common in his line of work. Regardless of her words though, he just moved to cut the ropes with another knife.]
The House of Ylisse sent me. I'm taking you home.

She looks him in the eye - as best as one could, given his mask - placed her hand on her heart and did a small bow. ]
... You have my gratitude. But we must be swift. It shan't be long until Gangrel or Aversa return for their hourly mocking session.
no subject
He moved back to Maribelle, grabbing her hand. His grip wasn't gentle, but not harsh either. For now, he was focused more on the mission.]
Stay close, and you'll be spared from more of that clown's laughter. [He too clearly didn't enjoy hearing it, based on his tone.] Might take a day or two to get you back home, but you will return there.
no subject
So long as we get there before the Grimleal force Ylisse to make awful choices... that's all that matters to me. Let us be off, sir.
no subject
It took quite some time, the guards slowly noticing their numbers having fallen over the past hour. But soon enough, freedom would be had, the two entering the forest and out of their sight. At least for now. He let go of her hand as their freedom had been won for now.]
I'd give us another five minutes before they finally notice. Gangrel yelling will likely be the key in that. We can't really find our way back in the dark though. Just ahead I prepared a hiding spot for now.
[They needed all the energy they could get. And unfortunately, Hei was getting tired, having spent quite a lot of energy. He tried to not show it in his movements, his own slight stumbling though gave it away.]
no subject
... How much further up ahead? If the distance isn't so great, perhaps we can slow down. Here... you may lean on me, if you so desire. I believe we've made great headway already.
no subject
Guess I have no choice. [He leaned down, arm put around her shoulder so he could properly lean against Maribelle. He then pointed ahead to the bridge nearby.] There's a hiding spot against the rocks under the bridge. That's where we'll hide for now.
no subject
... Having a man this close to her is a bit of a distraction anyway, if her reddening cheeks are any indication. ]
Once we're there, you should properly rest. You've done more than enough for the both of us. Fortunately, the most harm I've taken lately is to my pride.
no subject
He looked over at Maribelle, noticing her red face, but also something else.]
They didn't try anything else? I noticed you were crying earlier.
[She didn't look like she was tortured. But mental pain was still concerning.]
no subject
[ She looks away, but still continues to carry him. After a moment, she lets out a small sigh. ]
... I know the Exalt well... I am deeply connected to the entire royal family. They are as close to me as my own flesh and blood. I would do all I could for them - but that comes with a price. In turn, they would do all they could for me... even if it means the suffering of our people. Gangrel would have forced them to give up the sacred Fire Emblem if it meant my safe return. If you hadn't arrived... it could have meant the fall of House Ylisse, all for my foolishness.
Had that been the case, I would have taken the executioner's blade and dealt the final blow to myself.
no subject
The others seemed to agree. The moment you were taken, they hired me before telling the royal family. I actually owe the Exalt a favor.
[Truthfully, he was prepared to reject it. But after being reminded of what was owed the kindness she radiated, even his cold heart warmed up to the idea. Might be one of the few things he and Maribelle had in common. Besides, there was another reason: this hellhole of a land.]
Much as I hate to say it, it could have been worse. Why do you think I know the area so well? [And with a hiding spot too.]
no subject
A favor toward the Exalt? I doubt she would call it as such, she extends her grace and genorsity towards all... yet I am curious. What happened?
no subject
[And indeed, they were. Only a few moments later, and Hei helped guide Maribelle under the bridge. Fully standing up he moved towards the stone wall, bushes covering the bottom. But he then pushed the bushes out of the way, showing an entrance anyone can crawl through.]
Just go through here. I already came by and set things up, so it won't be too uncomfortable.
[Apart from being stuck hiding inside of a hidden cave.]
no subject
But really... they have to crawl?! This time, Maribelle does let out a small whine of discomfort, but only that! ]
Er... if you say so... I'll go first, in that case, so you can make sure we're hidden...
[ Siiigh. She reluctantly moves to get on her knees and begins to crawl. ]
no subject
However, the inside...well was fairly dark. Some holes on the side helped bring in air and the moonlight did at least help show off a small trunk filled with knives and a spare sword. Sadly nothing magical or medical to help Hei. And the only other thing inside was a lone makeshift bed. Fairly big, but it's clear this wasn't meant to be lived in.]
no subject
With a deep breath, she moved to sit against one of the walls. Hei would take the bed, since he needed his rest! As for her... well, this was only slightly more comfortable than a cell. No whining. ]
A-hem... alright, off to bed with you. I'll hold off any further inquires 'til the morn. You're near ready to pass out.
no subject
Once inside however, he noticed Maribelle's unease at everything. Right, didn't prep another bed. He took off his mask, and shook his head.]
You take it. I'm used to sleeping on the ground anyway.
no subject
You're the one who needs to catch his breath and recover! I insist you take the bed. A night upright will hardly kill me. I won't hear argument otherwise.
no subject
Just lay in the bed with me then. We both need to be at our best, and there's enough room at least.
no subject
[ He did not seriously just suggest that. Yep, her entire face is one big tomato now. ]
Are you out of your mind?! Absolutely not! Now lay down before I force you to!
no subject
Look, we're in the middle of enemy territory and both need rest! I'm not asking for sex. I'm asking you to just trust me to get you back home. But to do that, we both need to be at our best.
no subject
[ How dare he use up his remaining strength to intimidate her like this! The nerve! She makes a few more small noises of protest before turning her head away sharply. ]
... Very well. It seems you're giving me little choice about the matter.
no subject
no subject
... Although as she thinks this, she does realize it's rather snobbish. Ultimately, he was her savior. After exhaling deeply, Maribelle finally laid down beside him, her back to his own.
She did say he had her gratitude, but would he have preferred a more straightforward "thank you"? ... She'd have to make it up to him. And... she actually did feel very safe around him.
With that one last thought, she allowed herself to drift off into sleep. ]
