Types Of Mermaid:
1.Good: Everything said about merfolks is wrong. They are reclusive, but not evil. Especially not this one. Maybe they even saved you. No matter what, they love you, absolutely. And, were you to be honest, it was love at first sight on your end, too. But that doesn't mean you can be together...at least, not easily.
2. Bad: Come, jolly sailor bold. Come into the arms of a mermaid, and you will not regret it. They will hold you, and you cannot resist, even as you're dashed against the rock.
3. Wild: Good and evil cannot be applied to mermaids here, for they are like any other wild creature, more beast than man. Yet the more they're exposed to the kindness of humans or others who live on land, the more fond they grow towards it - and those who show them that kindness.
4. Ignorant: The mermaid's intentions are good, yet he or she doesn't realize what they could do to hurt their land dweller lover.
5. The Mermaid Dilemma: What can be done if someone wants to do more with a mermaid than give them kisses or sweet words? Not much, it seems. At first glance, that is, though who knows what can happen if one puts their mind to it.
6. Not What Was Expected: Beauty is always expected of a mermaid, but what if such a creature looked more like this? Who could care for such a beast? Well, there's still charm there, and with enough personality, appearances can be looked past.

♢ Sometimes, territories are broached, but it's not always a bad thing. Whether you're of entirely different species, or just from different seas, you've met in peaceful circumstances- perhaps as a direct result of those! So it's time for a cultural exchange. Just ignore the fresh water mer.

♢ This is a one in a lifetime chance.... for at least one person. Are you on an isolated island? A ship far out to sea? A highly funded aquarium? Or perhaps even a laboratory with more than questionable methods... Either way, you have the chance now to study something rarely seen before. How will it turn out for both of you?

♢ Some say it's impossible for a mer to live on dry land... except that's been quietly proven wrong. One of you has taken to living among humans, whether for years or still learning the ropes. ♢ While they have the legs for landdwelling, some humans seem to have more saltwater in their veins than blood, and those are the kinds of humans that end up with dealing with the mysteries of the sea the most. A surfer catching waves with shark mer? A pirate bartering with sirens for safe passage? A fisherman working together with those who know fish best? There's all sorts.

♢ Well, carp. Good job. One way or another, you're stuck where you shouldn't be. Whether that's a human lost in the tides, or a mer trapped against the land, you need help.... So don't be picky with what you do get.

♢ Sometimes, there's a good reason people fear the too wide expanse of the sea, or how deep its depths an reach... Strange songs which string through coastal towns and cause disappearances... The sound of something slipping through the water around a ship in the dead of night... Unexplained shapes which flicker outside of deep-sea vessels or submarines or installations. Do you want to know what's out there?

♢ Sometimes, there's a good reason why people fear humans. You don't belong here, being gawked at through thick aquarium glass or trapped in a too-small freakshow tank, but what can you do? Is there anyone who cares for your plight, or are there only people responsible for it?

♢ Well, this is awkward. You didn't mean to stumble onto a mer just... there, doing whatever, on the beach or by the docks or tangled up in your fishing net, but, well. It's happened. Now what?

♢ For one reason or another, you want to go where you've never gone before... A mer, venturing on the land either as a rare chance or every day business? Or a human, accepting some sort of trade or just to run away from the life you have now? Either way, it might get messy.... Feel free to mix in with other scenarios.

♢ Who's to say that humans are the only other creatures in the world? Maybe people living beneath the sea's waves aren't the only strange things. Maybe there are centaurs who travel along coastal roads to watch the night sky along with mer astronomers. Perhaps selkies are just distant cousins. Or who's to say that mer can't be a host of things unto themselves? The ocean's the limit. 

13 ♢ Sci-fi
♢ Mer and Human
♢ Some say astronauts are nothing more than sailors venturing off into another unexplored sea, one that's above instead of below. And, befitting those same sailors of older days, they seem to tell tails of strange melodic frequencies coming in over the radio to their ears, and strange comets that look like tails passing them by on a landed planet. Do they not know what's accompanying them in space, or is that what they're actively chasing?

♢ There are stories told of what exactly it is that could be both human and fish... So it's not surprising that, eventually, one would land upon calling them divine entities, either gods of the sea or lakes, or just their messengers. Is that true, or just a very clever, long lasting ruse?

♢ Mer and/or Human
♢ Some say mer are just humans, wrongfully forced overboard by superstition or cruelty and welcomed by the sea into something more. Others say that they're the spirits, haunting a particular sea or lake town for a wrongful death. What's the truth? Time to find out.

♢ Mer and/or Human
♢ Not everything has to be a dramatic mess. Sometimes, things just... work out for the best. These are better times, and mer are just another part of life. Water-side towns where everything is built around those that share the waters with them, or huge metropolises with water tubes and sprouts for mer to travel through. How will you imagine this sort of life?

Little wonder then that Leucetios had put his mark on her. The Lord of Thunder and Storms also governed weather magic. She could become quite powerful for a mortal witch.

It was also little wonder that the gods had decided to take Scrooge's pleas seriously when he'd called out for help to stop the villagers from harming her. There were so few believers left in the world, and having one of their marks meant they felt compelled to protect her in some way.

"I'm not sorry that I kept coming back," he told her. "I'm sorry I didn't leave home and find you sooner. I'm sorry I haven't been much help to you."

She was too tired to really argue - in addition to all that had happened, the reminder of her grief that never truly left added even more weight to today.

"Nothing to be done about it." She said quietly, staring at nothing and no one. "I've never relied on anyone before. I've never needed anyone before."

"I don't want you to wholly rely on me," he told her as he kept turning the spit. "I want you to know I'm there for when you're overwhelmed and need someone to rely on."

Scrooge swallowed as he kept up the turning.

"When I met you as a seal, I saw a part of you that I really admired. You were good and kind to animals, so I understood that people had likely done something to hurt you and make you distrust people. Initially I just wanted to see you happy and healthy. I justified it as being one of Lir's children and, by extension, one of his agents in the world. Once I was sure that you'd be fine, I planned to swim away and keep exploring the world.

"But the longer time went on, the more attached I became. I loved seeing you smile and having you pet my head as a seal. You were strong and brave. Sure, you didn't like my shore-dweller form, but that was okay. If I had to live my life purely as a seal, so be it. All I wanted was to be near you."

Was it exhaustion making her listen, or were his words finally getting through to her?

"I don't feel strong. I don't feel brave. All I've ever known is that I had to survive. To... make their deaths worth it, somehow."

Slowly, she leaned on him from behind, closing her eyes. To make their deaths worth it - it had been the only reason she hadn't taken her own life, for all the misery and agony her life had been.

"That takes a lot of bravery," Scrooge assured her. "Living despite wanting to die, making sure that your family didn't sacrifice themselves in vain...that takes a lot of courage and strength."

"You really are a fool."

But it was said as a mumble, as she put one arm around him.

He softly smiled before looking towards the roast.

"Is this cooked enough? Can you eat it now? Or do I need to keep going?"

She needed to regain her strength, after all.

She didn't answer right away - she'd nodded off.

It took a moment for her eyes to flutter back open. "Huh? ... Oh. Yes, yes it's fine..."

He removed the roast and cut off a portion for her, making to tear it up into small chunks to make it easier to eat. He then skewered the fish and started roasting those. At least he could tell when the fish were done.

Magica ate slowly. As much as she wanted to scarf it all down, she knew doing so would only make her sick. All the while she leaned on him as she ate, making sure to give Ratface a good piece.

The fish were done very quickly. The fire was allowed to burn down to embers which would produce very little if any smoke. A few stones were added to heat up and maintain warmth for when the fire went out completely. Only then was the door shut.

Perhaps the Storm Lord had been watching, for the very beginnings of what would be a torrential rain the next day started coming down the moment the door closed.

Scrooge let her lean against him, happy that he was providing some warmth and comfort to her. Still, he told her, "If you need more warmth, I can put on my seal skin. Much larger heat source."

With food in her belly, some of her mind was restored, which meant some of her bitterness was back too.

"I'm still reeling from the fact I made out with a seal. I'd much rather you didn't." Although at least this seemed less sour than before.

"Just let me know if you change your mind," Scrooge told her, tail wagging a little since her tone had been lacking some of its usual bite.

She ate a little more before looking at him. "...What's going to happen to the village?"

[richestduck]

"Nothing good, but it'll still be mostly standing if that's what you're worried about. Leucetios is sending them a warning. If he'd wanted to pass judgment, there'd be no build-up before he unleashed his wrath."

Scrooge shivered.

"I still wouldn't want to be any of them. I've seen what he can do when he's angered enough, and your prayers have been keeping his temper in-check this whole time since he doesn't want to harm you."

Magica sighed, thinking of all those people.

"There are children in that village. The ones that hurt my family are probably old and grey now." Though their hatred had clearly been passed down through generations. "My father was the one to leave the village to be with my mother. In the end... their blood is my own."

The selkie shook his head. "Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call because at least they'll have a chance to rebuild and start again. If Leucetios unleashed his full wrath, there'd be nothing left."

And no one alive.

Or they could wind up blaming her for it all, again. There was really nothing stopping history from repeating itself.

Another sigh, as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"They're going to come after you again, aren't they?" he asked quietly.

[blackmagicduck]

"They might," she admitted. "They can't see the gods. But they can see me. That's easier for them to understand."

[richestduck]

Scrooge went quiet for a long minute.

"Would you like to leave here?"

[blackmagicduck]

"I can't. This is my home." Her eyes drifted back to the child's picture book.

"I can't abandon the place that raised me, where the last time I felt happiness was."

[richestduck]

"Then may I stay to help you however little I can?" he asked softly. "I don't understand the shore-dweller world, but I'm willing to learn if it will help you."

He paused.

"Not stay in this cottage, I mean. Just...nearby?"

A moment before she answered.

"Stay where? You'd lose your mind in the village, and someone as dumb as you can't build a home. You'd have no choice but to stay right here."

"On the beach," he told her. "It's where I've been staying this whole time. Selkie don't build homes. We sleep on rocks and sand and just floating in the water."
