Types Of Mermaid:
1.Good: Everything said about merfolks is wrong. They are reclusive, but not evil. Especially not this one. Maybe they even saved you. No matter what, they love you, absolutely. And, were you to be honest, it was love at first sight on your end, too. But that doesn't mean you can be together...at least, not easily.
2. Bad: Come, jolly sailor bold. Come into the arms of a mermaid, and you will not regret it. They will hold you, and you cannot resist, even as you're dashed against the rock.
3. Wild: Good and evil cannot be applied to mermaids here, for they are like any other wild creature, more beast than man. Yet the more they're exposed to the kindness of humans or others who live on land, the more fond they grow towards it - and those who show them that kindness.
4. Ignorant: The mermaid's intentions are good, yet he or she doesn't realize what they could do to hurt their land dweller lover.
5. The Mermaid Dilemma: What can be done if someone wants to do more with a mermaid than give them kisses or sweet words? Not much, it seems. At first glance, that is, though who knows what can happen if one puts their mind to it.
6. Not What Was Expected: Beauty is always expected of a mermaid, but what if such a creature looked more like this? Who could care for such a beast? Well, there's still charm there, and with enough personality, appearances can be looked past.

And, befitting those same sailors of older days, they seem to tell tails of strange melodic frequencies coming in over the radio to their ears, and strange comets that look like tails passing them by on a landed planet. Do they not know what's accompanying them in space, or is that what they're actively chasing?

♢ Some say mer are just humans, wrongfully forced overboard by superstition or cruelty and welcomed by the sea into something more. Others say that they're the spirits, haunting a particular sea or lake town for a wrongful death. What's the truth? Time to find out.

♢ Not everything has to be a dramatic mess. Sometimes, things just... work out for the best. These are better times, and mer are just another part of life. Water-side towns where everything is built around those that share the waters with them, or huge metropolises with water tubes and sprouts for mer to travel through. There'd been plenty of arguments about this, and there would probably be plenty more in the future. As usual, the sister's stubbornness made her the victor. The brother was sorely tempted to stay out of the entire affair, maybe make it a lesson of tough love and "I told you so", but he didn't have it in him to leave her for so long - especially with that thing.

He also bit back the "now what?" resting on his tongue once she brought the creature to dry land - as much as she could bring it, what with her lack of lower limbs and all. All right, she'd made sure it didn't drown, she laid it on the sand. That didn't mean she had any idea what to do with it. For all they knew, it could still die. Brother actually hoped it did.

Sister had laid it down on the warm sand, and then laid beside it, watching inquisitively. Every so often she'd give it a poke, or maybe put her webbed hands on the odd things covering the body. They felt very soft, and if it had died, she probably would have stolen it to keep among her treasures. But no, it was still alive - the chest rising and falling showed - so for now, this thing would be her treasure.

"It could bite you, Magica," he said from the water.

"Shut up, Poe."

Getting knocked overboard from a ship was not how Scrooge expected to potentially die.

In the middle of the storm, it had been too dark for him to tell which way was up. The waves threw him around like a ragdoll. He'd been certain that this was how his story would end.

Things had eventually come to a stop. He could almost swear he was lying on something as opposed to just drifting through the water. He coughed, sea water spilling out of his mouth in bursts.

Pleased, Magica now loomed over the creature, trying to see if his eyes made it.

Her scent - or maybe stench - would hit him first, given that she smelled of the ocean and the sea. Long black hair dribbled more water onto him, entangled in seaweed and a few shells. Her own eyes shimmered like dark sea glass, as she tilted her head this way and that, which might - a big might - cover the fact she wasn't wearing any clothes. Not that she knew the concept of clothes.

[It's that time of the season when certain merfolk tribes migrate from waters to waters. When the tides change and the temperature warms in certain areas thanks to the summer solstice coming closer. Izuku's tribe migrates to waters they go to every single summer to spend the warmer months fishing and trading with the nearby tribes.

It's a busy time but Izuku finds he's always looking forward to this time of the year because he gets to see a certain mer that he can only see during these summer months. They've known each other since they were small children, always spending every single summer together playing and catching snacks and play-fighting. But those days were always limited as Izuku's tribe would move on when the Autumn months came...

This time Izuku is more eager than ever to meet with the other tribes. Izuku is coming of age so he might even find a mate this season. The mingling of merfolk groups always brings about courtships too. Izuku might just have a gift or two ready for... A certain special someone.

It's coming up to that morning where Izuku's group is coming over the chasm to reach the shared waters. All of the tribes tend to meet and welcome each other inside the giant opening in the coral reef like a festival come to life. Izuku's long green tail flicks and swishes gracefully through the water as he makes his way with the others. Eyes open for a merboy with blond hair.]

[Katsuki would insist he didn't look forward to this time of year. To seeing a specific green-eyed merman. He got a little rough with his childhood playmate at times.

But truthfully he was exceedingly fond of him. And with them coming of age he's eager to see Izuku again. He's on pins and needles scanning the crowd, agitation growing the longer he doesn't see him. This summer was different. He could feel it. He was finally at that age where his body was urging him to take a mate.

And he knew who he was hoping to spend the mating season with.

Finally he catches sight of green hair and he perks up.]

Oy! Izuku! Over here!

[He's like a guppy as soon as he hears his name! Perking up and looking over the crowd of mingling merfolk and smiling instantly.]

Kacchan! Kacchan, there you are!

[He is already swimming his way over to him. Carefully scooping himself through the water and coming to greet the blond. Many of the merfolk that know them shake their heads or sigh since they're such an odd pair. Most of them time people don't really knnow if they're rivals or friends. But Izuku would say it's the latter.]

It's good to see you again!

[His finned ears twitch and his green scales are practically glittering. Getting to see Katsuki again always feels so good. And he's looking... so much stronger and bigger.]

Kacchan, did you get even bigger since last summer??

[It had been some time since the first time he had seen Allura at the beach that day, ending up learning that he himself was half-mer. Getting used to changing back and forth had been A Thing, but he was getting used to it, and becoming a stronger swimmer.

However, learning the customs and how there was apparently an entire undersea war between Galra mer, his own heritage, and the Altean mer, Allura's, was something else entirely. Allura had been understandably wary of him at first. He honestly didn't blame her. Not only was he raised as a human, but then to find out his previously unknown other half was from her sworn enemies, she hadn't exactly been kind. Polite, yes... relatively helpful as far as him adapting to things, sure... but she'd held him at proverbial arm's length for quite some time.

Keith was determined, though. He'd seen a familiar symbol the other day, embedded in some rock out in the sea, and had asked Allura about it. She hadn't immediately recognized it, but the style of the symbol was definitely Galra in design. Keith didn't immediately remember where he'd seen it before, but then found it again when he'd gotten home. A dagger his father had left behind had the same symbol. Wondering if it would lead to his mother, Keith brought it with him this time when he returned to the beach. It was still only late spring, and beach-goers were few and far between, so it was easy for Keith to sneak into the water, the salt of the ocean triggering the transformation. It was faster now, and he was soon headed back to where that rock had been...]

[This whole situation was... frustrating. It was only by a sheer miracle that Allura hadn't been discovered fraternizing with a human, even a half-mer one, and said human was was not only part-Galra, of all clans, but also confusing and prone to simple questions and getting easily frustrated and she couldn't believe she wasted her first kiss breathing air into him!

She had no idea why she kept meeting him like this, teaching him about her culture, trying to figure out mysteries... or why the quiznak she was starting to look forward to it or why her face would get so hot around him. Nope. No idea whatsoever.]

I had trouble getting out of work. [Keith glared a little.] I can't exactly tell them I'm meeting a mermaid for a history lesson about my own mer heritage.

[He produced the dagger then, the emblem on the hilt glowing softly in the water with an ultraviolet color, different than the usual magenta, red, or even neon green used in a lot of Galra creations.]

Here, see? This is why I recognized that symbol. My dad had this, and I think he might have gotten it from my mom. He just... never told me...

Beach. Picnic.

Okay, so Hunk's picnics tended to be more than just sandwiches, drinks, and snacks shoved in a basket or a cooler, but it was still a picnic with some picnic-worthy, albeit somewhat fancy, foods. For now, everyone was chill, enjoying the sun, sand, and surf. It was a break from like... everything. Hunk was just glad to relax, have fun, and have good food.

He was not expecting to have a strange encounter today... then again, one rarely expected a strange encounter...]

[Frankly, the strange encounter didn't expect him either. Makoto was usually more careful about when she visited this beach, waiting until it was raining or full-on storming so humans wouldn't be around, but she thought it was soon enough after the last storm that it'd still be empty and she could enjoy some sunlight and warm sand--OH WAIT NO, HUMAN.

Thankfully she was strong and agile, and there was a perfectly sized rock for her to duck behind, hopefully any splashing can be written off as waves breaking against the shore, right?]

[Well! The nervous nelly that Hunk could be, honestly, definitely heard those off-rhythm splashes. After all, there was a certain sound to waves on the shore, and those splashes most certainly didn't fit in! His head shot up from where he was prepping and stared out towards the water's edge. Sure, there had been a storm recently, but the weather was clearing, and he had a party to start cooking for, so that was definitely important. He needed to make sure he had enough time. But that meant he was out here early and alone and weird splashing shouldn't be happening right now.

His voice sounded nervous as he finally spoke up.]
