Magica was genuinely happy - not the malicious smirk of making her enemies suffer, nor the lustful glee of a good night in Scrooge's arms - no, what was on Magica's face this evening was of pure happiness. And why shouldn't she be? The one person nearest and dearest to her heart was finally coming home. The moment she'd gotten the notice - via a letter tied around a raven's leg - she ordered the most lavish celebration the coven could create for his arrival. All the best wines were to be brought up, the fattest pigs slaughtered...

The entire castle was gathered in the throne room - slaves, witches, warlocks, relatives and minions, all were to be there for the return of the second head of the coven. The moment the doors opened, the music played, and everyone else fell to their knees in worship.

Funny enough, the man in question didn't appear to give a damn about what was going on.

Sure, he was smiling, but he wasn't acknowledging anyone he walked by, no matter how loudly they called his name and praised his safe return. As far as Lord Poe De Spell was concerned, there was only one other person in the room - his dear sister.

Once Poe arrived at the base of the thrones, he put an arm to his stomach and bowed graciously. Magica in turn placed a hand on her dress for a simple, quick curtsy. "It is good to see you home safe and sound, Poe."

"It's good to be home, Magica." He raised his head. "The conquest of the southern territories was a complete success. They shan't be giving us anymore trouble."

With the formalities over with, Magica suddenly ran into Poe's arms, and he held her as tightly possible.

Magica paused. Did she want Scrooge going out of his way to serve Poe in the morning as well?

... Perhaps it was a good idea. It was a small start to show her brother how efficient her slave was. Soon he'd see that Scrooge was the perfect servant to have. "You did the right thing," she praised him, stroking his cheek feathers. "I'm pleased."

Scrooge beamed. She'd told him to obey Poe as he would her, after all. It only made sense to retrieve his breakfast as well.

"I'm happy to serve, Mistress!"

Magica favored him with a kiss before sitting down to eat. "Run along and have your own breakfast, dear one. I imagine we're all going to have a long day."

"Yes, Mistress. Please don't hesitate to tell me if you need anything."

With that, Scrooge bowed and left, heading towards the kitchen. He took his time on the walk, cleaning little things along the way. He wouldn't be allowed to eat until the others were finished anyway.

The day dragged on as usual, with Poe stunned to hear his sister apologize for something. She explained Scrooge's questioning, and Poe was befuddled. If the spy's aim was to break up the coven, why risk injury or worse in trying to get them back together?

He was so confused that after finishing his breakfast and trying to read, he found it difficult to concentrate on the pages.

Scrooge entered the library mid-day with lunch for the sorcerer. One of his arms had a bandage on it.

"I brought you your lunch, Master. The chef hopes you enjoy it."

Poe would have waved him off with just a curt nod, but the bandage caught the corner of his eye. He leaned back, eyebrow raised.

"What happened there?"

"It was an accident, Master. Nothing more," Scrooge said. "Thank you for your concern."

He set the food down before giving a bow.

"If there's anything else you need, I'll be working close by."

Were it any other slave, of course Poe would have let it go. But given how this one managed to get an actual apology out of his sister... he didn't want Magica to think this was Poe's fault and things to go backwards.

With a sigh, he closed his book. "Come here."

Scrooge did as ordered, standing in front of Poe.

And once Poe took the bandage off, he'd see a nasty burn.

This seemed like more than a mere accident. He'd have to interrogate the kitchen servants.

"My sister specializes in destruction... and I specialize in restoration." He ran his fingers over the burn, willing the healing process to speed up a hundredfold.

Scrooge's eyes went wide. "That was faster than when Mistress healed my back."

There might be very faint scars on his back that he didn't know about, but Poe would have to look for them to see them.

He was no longer surprised to hear about Magica improving Scrooge's life. "That's because she doesn't practice it as often as I do. She never saw it as a necessity." There would be times when it was important to save the life of a fellow witch and warlock, but Magica, highly independent, couldn't see things that way.

Scrooge tilted his head to one side. "But wouldn't she want to learn for you, Master?"

"She's so confident in my abilities that she's sure I'll never be actually injured." Which made him laugh, shaking his head. "Isn't she adorable?"

"Yes, Master," Scrooge said, nodding his head in agreement. It wasn't entirely because he was supposed to agree. Magica could be quite cute...when she wanted to be.

At least Scrooge knew that much. "She also told me about your inquiries for the distelfink... and she apologized to me." Again, this was monumental.

"I suppose I have you to thank for that."

"I was worried when you reacted badly to the distelfink, Master," Scrooge said bluntly. "And...I thought she was being unfair to you." He rubbed at his now-healed arm. "I'm a slave, and I know that my pleasure doesn't matter to my master or mistress if I'm called into their bed. My previous mistress would have me pleasure her and then leave immediately, so I had to take care of myself before going back to my chores. You didn't do anything wrong."

"I think we both know the score by now," Poe pointed out. "Regardless of what a slave is supposed to mean towards their master, Magica clearly sees you as above and beyond that. I can't claim to understand it, but it's what makes her happy, so I won't meddle with it."

At least beyond seeing if the slave was a true spy or not. He picked up the book again, this one about the stars and their meanings.

Scrooge looked with interest at the book. Why write about stars? They were just lights in the sky, and not even bright ones.

Of course such a look was noticeable. Was Scrooge starved for knowledge in any form?

"I take it you'd like some lessons, now."

"I would, Master," Scrooge began, "but I need to finish my chores first." He bowed deeply. "I'm sorry."

"Fair enough." He waved away. "I'll be here for most of the day. I'll keep the book out, if you can make time for it."

"Thank you, Master." Scrooge bowed.

He then left. He really hoped he could find enough time.

He touched his arm again. He knew it likely hadn't been an accident, but he could live with this. Just in case, he re-wrapped his arm. He didn't want the other slaves to see he'd been healed and get angry about the special treatment.

Poe read in his library, and finished his research rather quickly.

... Yet. He waited for Scrooge. For all the sexual mishaps and the "fight" with his sister after, he did enjoy teaching Scrooge. What an odd little thought.
