[Keith tensed at the challenge, but Allura beat him to the response. He was glad for it because he had a few other choice words that probably wouldn't have gone over very well. His grip on the blade tightened, though.]

[Alfor's eyes remained just as stern during their answers, giving his daughter and son-in-law silence support.
"In any case, let us hope we will not need their assistance too soon." And then a sigh. "For now... prepare a ship for departure to Daibazaal. The princess and prince-consort need to arrive swiftly and as well-equipped as possible."]
[Allura excused herself before following right behind Keith, taking his hand almost immediately and squeezing it tightly.]
I think I need to rest, after all that.
[Indeed, she was physically and emotionally exhausted, not to mention all the crying left her dehydrated and with a headache. Right now she wanted to down the largest glass of water and just... hold Keith, reassure herself he was still here.]
[Keith sighed heavily. He didn't want to draw more attention to them for now, so he maintained the hand-hold for a bit longer as they walked. However, once he was sure they were alone, he pulled her against him with his arm around her shoulders.]
[He headed for the kitchen, still with his arm around her. He decided to take the back way to avoid anyone else for now. They needed some time on their own after that. He retrieved two glasses, offering one to her.]
[After thanking Keith, she nearly downed the glass in one sitting, barely stopping for air.]
Thank you. [She set the cup down to rest her hand on his shoulder. She looked and felt so tired, but having him near, helping her even with something this small, it gave her so much strength.] I'm so glad to have you in my life, Keith.
[He did much the same with his own, just the act of taking that long of a gulp of cold water barely enough to start the process of settling his own nerves. He took a long breath, too, giving her a weak smile as she touched him.]
I'm glad I have you, too.
[She inspired him to try harder, to be a better person, and to keep fighting. It was a long fight, and he'd been pushing himself through everything for so long, but his reason for doing so was shaky. He wasn't even sure if his parents were still alive at this point. But, it had been something to cling to all these years.
Now? He had her, and she was here, right in front of him. It was more real than finding his parents again. He could see her, talk to her, touch her, and that grounded him and motivated him in a way that he'd never felt before. Not to mention having fallen in love with her.
[She leaned into his touch almost as ardently as she'd drunk from the glass, moving in until their foreheads touched and her free hand moving to cup his face as well.]
[He pressed back against her, forehead to forehead, standing close to her so their bodies touched. He used his own free hand to wrap an arm around her waist.]
Let's take it easy tonight. We can start working on the training tomorrow.
[The emotional exhaustion at this point would likely be enough to deal with.]
[The embrace almost had a gravity of its own with how easily Allura fell into it, the hand on his shoulder wrapping around to complete the hug and pull him closer.]
[Keith nodded. With a gentle nudge, he guided Allura back to their room, once again using the more private back passages. He wasn't in the mood to deal with a lot of people trying to stop them and talk to them quite yet, and he was pretty sure she wasn't either.]
[He was very right there. Once they were safely behind the door of their bedroom, Allura pulled him into her embrace once more, burying her face in his shoulder.]
[Keith easily put his arms around her, holding her close to him. He rested the side of his face against her hair, the strands soft against his skin, and closed his eyes. One his hands gently rubbed up and down her back.]
[Keith nodded in return. He gently guided Allura back to the bed, staying as close as he could during the movement, and then only separated from her long enough to remove his shoes and get comfortable before pulling her back against him in his arms.
[Keith gently rested his cheek against the top of her head.]
It is.
[He took a breath, inhaling the fragrance of her hair for a moment.]
I never thought I'd ever find something like this. And, somehow, it fell in my lap. It's odd, but, as much as I hate how it came about, I'm grateful for having to marry you. You've given me so much more than I could have possibly hoped for.
So have you. [She buried her face into the collarbone, taking in the scent of his shirt and skin and the beat of his heart just as deeply.] And now...
[She took a shuddering breath, on the verge of weeping at the thought of finishing that sentence. Now they were facing the empire that caused them both so much misery... but also looking death in the eye, with no guarantee either of them would survive, that she could keep Keith in her life.]
I love you, too. [His voice was soft as he responded, returning her kiss easily. He pulled her closer, trying to fall asleep.
It didn't go well. Sleep was difficult for both of them. But, they did get some rest. When morning came, preparations began. Keith adjusted his diet that very morning to compensate for his planned intensive training. He wasn't going to go into this unprepared. They had time, but not a lot, and he planned on using all of it to get himself ready.
Lotor was an impressive opponent. If he was going to fight this contest himself, Keith knew it was going to be difficult. They were both good, but he had yet to best Lotor in a fight. He often let his own temper get in the way. He knew he was going to need to work on that.
He wasn't even thinking of honing any of the strange abilities Honerva had developed in him... In many ways, Galra druids were a lot like Altean alchemists. It was one of the reasons that Honerva had been able to develop her inner circle the way she had. Because he was half human, Keith's own druid bloodline had been altered, and she'd been intrigued to see what she could do with it. It was raw and untapped, and Keith was a little scared of it. His show of power during his argument and subsequent challenge the day before had been rare, but he'd been unable to quell his temper in the moment.
Now, as he stepped into the training deck of the Castle, he focused on his breathing, pausing long enough to close his eyes and attempt to focus on what he had planned for his morning session.]
[Allura's focus would be no less intense. Of course she still had her royal duties, and she had to make legal and military arrangements should she or Keith not survive this, but every fiber of her being was fueled with fear and rage at the thought of being separated from Keith, or leaving her people defenseless. It was a varga and a half into Keith's own session that the deck doors opened and Allura entered, jumpsuit donned, hair pulled into a high bun, quarterstaff in hand, and eyes burning with unspent energy.]
[Keith was focusing on fighting one or two opponents at a time for this. He was expecting a proper duel, and, as cut-throat as the Galra Empire could be, the arena was a source of pride. He knew they wouldn't cheat, even if they wanted to.
He paused the simulation when he heard the door open, looking back to see Allura standing there. He held his transformed blade in his right hand, another borrowed Altean weapon that resembled a long-bladed version of a katar in his left. His expression shifted slightly, softening slightly at the sight of her.]
Is everything settled?
[Keith knew she had duties to attend to first, including the paperwork and official documents about their current situation and making contingency plans should something happen to one or both of them.]
