When I First Saw Your Face: You are meeting your liege or your knight for the first time. What you see takes your breath away.
Lovesick: Your pining for your beloved has made you ill! You can't eat, you can't sleep, you're in loves throes.
Playing Hard to Get: If you're of nobility, you at least have to pretend you're not interested.
You're So Coy: The art of flirtation is just getting started, but you have to be subtle about it.
In Your Honor: Be it a jousting match or a battle, you're going to win this for your lord/lady's name!
A Token: You must give your knight something for good luck.
A Gift: This is the reverse of the above. You must give your love something.
Keep a Secret: Kisses behind columns, holding hands under the table. You must sneak away little moments together, but you have to keep others in the dark.
Back from War: Your knight has been away in combat, and now they've returned. You want to shower them with affection.
Consumate: Believe it or not, courtly love could have a physical angle, as well. Sometimes physical affairs happened.
To Defend Your Honor: Someone has insulted your fair lady or lord. You know what that means! DUEL.
I'll Protect You: The lands are under an attack, and you must protect the person you love!
Breaking the Rules: You've decided to abandon the pretense of courtly love and actually be with this person, even if that means running away.
It had been a long and hard battle to defend the outer borders of the kingdom, but Daniel Renoir, Knight of the Rose and Captain of the Guard, had successfully won with their superior tactics and stronger might. Now they were completing the ride home, hooves thundering through the town, the commonfolk raising their heads and hands to the returning fighters.
Upon reaching the courtyard, the other knights went off to their duties, be they what they may. But Daniel would need to commiserate with others inside, report on the battle, account for the spoils of the fight and so on. It was a long, long day ahead of him. A squire was at hand to lead his horse off, and he gave him instructions to pamper the beast well. Still wearing his armor in case they'd been attacked by stragglers on the way home, he removed his wolf-styled helm thankfully and scrubbed a hand through his thick black hair. Breathing out a sigh, he walked forward to go into the castle proper.
When the princess had heard that the knights had returned, lead to victory by the Captain, it eased her mind for reasons beyond the successful defense of the kingdom. It's all she can do to behave as a proper princess and continue her lessons, instead of racing through the castle and its grounds to find a certain knight
When she finally was able to slip away and find him, she once again had to fight off the overwhelming desire to do what she couldn't - to grab him in a tender embrace, to cry tears of relief and joy as she told him how worried she'd been. But she can't... Not yet.
Instead, she curtsies slightly, with a smile that barely conceals mischief and - more so - adoration. "Thank you for protecting the kingdom so valiantly, Sir Renoir."
Daniel had just come off the final report of the battle, and was on his way to giving the castle coffers its share when he spied princess- though he fancied he picked up on her scent first, a distinctive flowery sort of perfume that was a far cry from the stone of the castle and the sweat and steel of the battlefield.
Looking up, there was an overwhelming fondness in his eyes, though he kept his voice level, conscious of people nearby. He gave her a bow deeper than the curtsy, dipping his head. "Only too happy, princess. All the more to keep you safe. -And the kingdom, of course!"
Rapunzel had to fight back a charmed laugh at Daniel's recovery. The softness behind her smile grew as she nodded.
"Of course," she said, making a mental scramble to think of some reason to head off alone with him. Technically, she should never be alone with an unmarried man, but... Ah, there it is. "I have some questions about the enemies you fought today. I want to understand the extent of their anger with the kingdom."
Which wasn't a lie, but wasn't the whole truth, either.
"But of course, princess." Bidden by a royal he could only accept, so the others nearby headed off elsewhere in the castle as he walked forward. She got a small, private smile as he headed off down the hallway with her.
Though, until they were out of earshot of the others, had to keep up said appearance and all. So he answered any questions she had, describing the battle- keeping out the worst parts so as not to offend her sensibilities, of course -and how, it was a pincer attack from his right-hand man who'd secured the victory for them.
Rapunzel continued to ask questions, and offer her congratulations, until they were able to steal away into an empty room, where morning tea was usually held for the ladies-in-waiting.
At that point, she stood on tiptoe to press a kiss to Daniel's cheek. Her eyes met his in an emotional gaze.
His cheeks dusted with blush at the touch of her lips, and he moved his hands to lightly hold onto her arms. Between arrival and now he'd been able to change out of his armor, so it was just the soft touch of his gloves rather than the hard mail that rested against her sleeves.
"So am I. I'd hate to leave you to rattle around this castle all by your lonesome." His voice was soft and tender, as he returned the kiss, though his graced her forehead.
"You'll never have to, so long as I can help it." He wrapped his arms around her, holding her in an embrace as tender as he might cup a wounded butterfly with his hands.
"I know, but soon." He picked up her hand in his, delicately by the fingers, and held it up between them. "I will 'win the lady's hand,' as it were, and we will be happy." Keeping his eyes lovingly locked with hers, he gently touched a kiss to her knuckles.
That definitely gave her hope, and the gentle way he touched her made her feel so incredibly happy, a joy that had her feeling almost as though she were being lifted off the ground.
"Soon," she repeated, as a reminder to herself. "Yes, we certainly will be... No one could mean to me what you do, Daniel."
"And you to me, dearest Rapunzel." He smiled, only daring to call her by name when they were alone like this. "You're the sun that chases away the fog that layers over my soul, a giving warmth that I'm loathe to do without."
It delighted her, whenever he called her simply by her name. "If that's true, then you're the moon that lights up the darkest hours in my life."
And like the sun and the moon, they couldn't coexist just yet, not the way they wanted to. But the promise ran through Rapunzel's mind again and again. Soon, soon.
"You're hopelessly romantic, you know," she points out, but the look on her face makes it clear that she's saying that out of fondness, and nothing else.
"You're absolutely right," Rapunzel giggled. Once again, she leaned up - but this time, it was to briefly rub her nose against his before she pressed a kiss to his lips.
It absolutely thrilled him to steal a secret kiss, hidden away in one of the rooms of the castle. He lingered, a happy sound softly in his throat, gently stroking the backs of his fingers against her cheek.
Rapunzel made no move to end the kiss, until footsteps could be heard coming near. At that point, she quickly pulled away... But the steps carried on down the hall. A sigh of relief.
13, to your... whichever you pick

"I wish we didn't have to hide this," she confessed. "It's so... Ridiculous, having to keep something so wonderful a secret."
