He crossed his heart and picked up the basket, heading down the beach past the rock where he'd hidden his seal skin. Within moments, he was swimming through the rapidly-darkening waters of the ocean, snagging herring from a school. Careful not to bite down or swallow, he brought each one back to shore to dump into the basket. Once he had six--plenty for dinner tonight and for her to have something for a good portion of tomorrow--he removed the skin and hid it.
