Don't even try out that frown / 'cause your man is back in town [donald x daisy]
Christmas in Disney Castle was usually an extremely happy and festive time. The entire courtyard was decorated, and everyone in the kingdom was invited to come inside to celebrate. Many were joyfully opening gifts, exchanging worm food, and singing merry songs... but not everyone.
After a while, Daisy couldn't take it any longer, and fled the castle. All those cheerful smiles... it had just been too much. There was only one thing she wanted for Christmas, and he wasn't there. It wasn't his fault, not really - he had his duty - and it was selfish of her to demand him home.
She tried to recite that over and over in her head, but it didn't lessen the pain any. She retreated to the empty court gardens, wiping her face, and then holding herself.
"Oh, Donald..."

She tried to recite that over and over in her head, but it didn't lessen the pain any. She retreated to the empty court gardens, wiping her face, and then holding herself.
"Oh, Donald..."

The distinct sound of webbed feet drew closer, followed by an unmistakable voice.
"Hi, Daisy..."
He sounds tiny, and sheepish

"... Donald...?"
no subject
"Merry Christmas?"
no subject
And then she runs towards him, almost tackling the dear boy down as she hugs him as tightly as her fingers will allow.
"Donald!"
no subject
And for a moment, that's all they do. Just stand there in an embrace. Donald, in particular, is trying to make this somehow make up for all the time they were apart.

"You... you... you..." She chokes out, cupping his left cheek with one hand and frantically kissing the other, "You stupid... do you have any idea... I was so worried..."
no subject
You know he's serious because he let her calling him "stupid" slide without comment.
no subject
"I-I know, I know they needed you, but... but I need you too!" A choked sob. "Why can't those worlds protect themselves? Why... why can't you just stay safe..."
no subject
"I'm here now, and I'm safe, and I just wanted to--"
He pulls out of the hug just enough so he can get a good look at Daisy.
"I just wanted to spend the holidays with you..."
no subject
"You... you have to leave again. Don't you."
no subject
no subject
"... No... NO! No, you can't DO that!" The scream comes out louder than she intended, and she shuts her eyes tightly. "You can't just... waltz back in, and then leave me again! That's not fair!"
no subject
He knew that it would break her heart for him to visit, only to have to leave again. But it was just as heartbreaking for her (and him) to not check in at all.
"You know I'd stay if I could, Daisy."
no subject
"Why can't someone else save the day? Why does it always have to be you? Why can't you be a boring, useless guy like everyone else? Why..."
no subject
He lets Daisy bang on his chest without so much as a reaction, or rather, without the expected reaction. He eventually cups one of her fists with his hands.
"I knew this was a bad idea, that it would--" Donald cuts himself off, overwhelmed by emotion.
It's not fair to Sora to have to go it alone, and Mickey's far too invested in this for Donald to turn his back on his best friend's mission. Loyalty to his friends meant breaking the heart of the woman he loved, and he had no idea how he would ever make it up to her. If he even could.
He squeezes his eyes shut and presses their hands up to his forehead, "I just wanted to see you again..."
no subject
But he's not fighting back. Nothing's normal. Nothing's okay. It won't be for a long time.
Was it a bad idea, though? Would it have been better if he never showed up at all? Daisy chokes - she can't ever say that. Because it's not true. Just to have proof he's okay and alive...
Her breath hitches several times. "I'm so afraid of losing you." Her voice breaks, and she stops resisting, stops moving, just hanging her head. "I'm not strong, like the Queen... I can't stop imagining all the worst things... and I don't have magic, like she does, or smarts, like the chipmunks, there's... there's nothing I can do for you, or for anyone! All I can do is just... wait, and worry... I can't do anything for the one I love most..."
no subject
"You're there for the Queen, I'm sure she appreciates that..."
He sighs, this is awkward, and painful, but this was something that had to be done. He can't avoid her just to protect her from heartbreak. (Of course, in reality, he was trying to protect himself from the heartbreak)
"Daisy, when this is over, I'll find a way to make this up to you, somehow."
no subject
"I don't care about 'making it up'." Her voice drops to a pitiful murmur. "When it's over... just come home. That's all I want."
no subject
He holds Daisy tightly, for however long she wants to be held. She might not care about "making it up" but he still feels like he needs to.
no subject
After a few more sniffles in an effort to calm down, she cups his cheek, and kisses him deeply.
no subject
It's probably one of the most passionate kisses they've had in a while, because it's been so long.
no subject
"... Merry Christmas, Donald."
