if i couldn't be strong / would you still love me the same (scrooge x magica)

If a year or two ago, someone had told Magica she was about to do this, she would have laughed in their faces and slapped them. Magica De Spell, world's greatest sorceress, asking her number one enemy Scrooge McDuck for help? It was madness! It was insane!
... But right now, it was her only option.
Typically she only "attacked" him at work, trying at his actual mansion would be something new. If his family was home, she'd be kicked out in an instant. She had to make this quick...!
She circled the mansion several times atop her flying broom before spotting an open window. It was now or never, she could only hope she was right, and this was the master bedroom! At least there they would have some privacy, and surely he'd be home by now!
She took a deep breath, and then flew straight in, leaping to the floor without a second thought. "Scrooge McDuck!"

Magica yelled at the top of her lungs - what was he thinking?! Had all this mushy lovey-dovey talk driven him crazy! She slapped her hands over her eyes, turning around.
"THIS IS NOT THE TIME OR THE PLACE! YOU DIRTY OLD MAN!"

"Oh! You... you thought I..." Now he himself turned red in the face. "No, no, where do you think. I mean, not that exactly this thought hadn' brought me on the idea but... no, seriously, you think I wanted here... in the middle of Hades...?"
The situation had something funny, even if a part of him was seriously offended that she kept her eyes closed at the sight of him. "I learned this trick on one of my many journeys, a makeshift rope made of clothes. He knotted his jacket and shirt together so that he could reach an appropriate range. He dipped it briefly into the water so that it became firmer and then began to fish for the rod by throwing out his rope afterwards.
It took a few tries but eventually he managed it and the rod was within reach again. He unknotted his clothes and put them on the bottom of the boat to dry. Then he began to steer further towards the shore wordlessly, since Magica had her hands full...
"Do you really resent the sight of me?" He asked after a few quiet minutes. That couldn't be, could it? Hadn't she fantasized about him? Actually, he had always believed he had an attractive body, but Magica's reaction unsettled him. As it always was when someone's opinion meant something to you.
Only that Scrooge had this experience for the first time.

Although she was clearly peeking between her fingers at him when he thought she wasn't looking.
Once she was sue he was redressed, she lowered her hands. "Next time, speak before you strip!"

The strange water from the lake dried very quickly so that he could get dressed again soon. It had not escaped him that Magica, despite her words, had spyed in his direction. His satisfied grin became wider. She also said he would distract her.
Actually, Scrooge's ego didn't need any boost, but after the brief attack of doubt it didn't hurt either.
And finally they were back on shore. But... there stood not only Charon but a second, tall person. "Magica..." he whispered carefully. "Do you have any idea who that is?"
no subject
"I have a very bad feeling..." She whispered back. "... That we just ran into Lord Hades himself."

But maybe it wasn't even necessary. Perhaps Hades was not hostile to them. Although they had entered his empire without permission, cheated on his ferryman and stole water from the Styx...
Anyway, one thing was certain for him. Whatever happened, his number one priority was to get Magica safely out of Hades. No matter what happened to him. But first he tried to act as random as possible. He kindly took his hat off to Charon and Hades, thanked them and led Magica away from the shore without another word.
Never before had he wished for the luck of his nephew Gladstone, but now it would be reassuring to know the goddess of fortune on his side.

Any minute now she expected to be punished, or captured, or... anything. In fact, the fact that nothing was happening only added to her fright. Whatever it was, get it over with already!
... Was it her imagination, or was Hades smirking?
Magica blinked slowly as they passed by Charon and Hades, trying to think. Why was he there in the first place? Unless...?
"... Oh, my, gods. Don't tell me he was watching the whole time."
no subject
But Magica couldn't answer any more, because at that moment Hades laughed off in a resounding sound. "You should see your face witch!" They hadn't passed the two figures by three steps yet and suddenly Hades stood between them and put one arm around eachs shoulder. "You are nothing but a small, insignificant witch from Vesuvius and have the nerve to walk into my realm and steal water from the Styx." He turned further laughing towards Scrooge.
"And then you bring a normal person with you. But what a person. Good Charon still thinks he's hit the jackpot." He grabbed Scrooge by the chin and forced him to look him in the eye. "Honestly, I can understand that you desire him." For a moment he turned back to Magica, who was still death pale but her eyes sparkled angrily. "I mean, the illusions you had in my fog, woo-hoo, even I must blush." Quick as a snake, his eyes were on Scrooge again.
"While Scroogie here dreamt innocently of a ridiculous kiss, which he rejected. Boo-ho, it wasn't his beloved Magica herself." Hades looked at him as one would normally look at a display in a shop window. "I like something like that, maybe I should add him to my collection..."
He stroked his cheek. Scrooge avoided him but Hades had grabbed him by the collar in a flash.
Excuse me? EXCUSE ME?
Scrooge gave Magica a panic-stricken look.

"YOU LEAVE HIM BE!" She snapped, trying to grab Scrooge's arm and pull him back. "He risked his life again and again in this wretched place you call a home, he earned his freedom! The only reason he's here in the first place is because of me! If you want your stupid water back, then take it, but Scrooge is leaving this place alive!"
Without her magic, she couldn't really fight alone, let alone the lord of the dead, but she was going to try.

"Magica, if we leave the water here, it was all in vain. Then Ratface will die!" Scrooge was visibly desperate, what could he do? Besides, he wasn't sure that Hades was really "only" talking about his death. That look he had thrown at him. It ran coldly down his back.
"Please, I swore to help you and save Ratface. You have to get out of here safely! Don't do anything rash now, and certainly not because of me" Yes, he was afraid. Great fear even and to play the hero was also not his intention. But... Magica. He still saw her tears before his eyes as she mourned Ratface.
He closed the distance between them and kissed her tenderly. What did he care about Hades at that moment? He had already observed it all. Then with a gentle but firm look he saw into her deep black eyes.
"I love you. No matter what will happen".
no subject
"You really think you can just say that?" She snapped, drawing away from him. "You really are a fool! You were born a fool, you've lived a fool, and one day you'll die a fool!"
She marched forward, right in Scrooge's face, poking his chest hard. "Nothing and no one can command Magica De Spell... not you, not Charon, not even Lord Hades himself! And if you really did love me... you'd know... I don't give up that easily!"
She suddenly whipped around, and shoved Hades as hard as she could to try and push him into the river!

He was beginning to fear that her terror of Hades had paralyzed her. "You heard the lady and now perish!" Hades already staggered through Magica's attack. A wildly determined Scotsman who bodyslammed him with all his strength was too much. With nothing but surprise on his face he fell into the Styxs. Immediately he was surrounded by souls that pulled him into the depths.
But Scrooge had no muse to attend the spectacle. He grabbed Magica's hand and ran until they had reached the exit. Never before had a forest looked as enchanting as this one.
Breathing heavily, he turned to Magica. "Believe me, it's not like I wouldn't die for you if it was really necessary..." He put his hand on her face and touched her forehead with his.
"You were my highest priority down there. But of course I prefer to live with you. So I had to transform your fear into something else. And well... "He laughed liberated. "Who is better at driving you to white hot than me? ... My love..."
no subject
"... You..." Gods, he really was insufferable, wasn't he? "You really are the worst. Why did I have to fall for you, of all people?" She grumbled, thumping her forehead to his. There, a proper punishment.
no subject
"It was the first time you've ever admitted in words you feel anything for me." He meant contemplatively. "Not that words were so important but... it delights me nevertheless". He thankfully squeezed her hand a little harder.
He really wondered what the future would bring, down in Hades there had only been them both, what would now happen back in the real world? He hoped from the bottom of his heart that she would not back down. Even though he knew they would encounter a lot of disbelief for the time being. Especially from his family and friends.
But for the time being it was important to get back to Ratface quickly.

What if they were seconds too late, or the cure had only been guesswork? Even though it wouldn't help anyone to think such things, the paranoid thoughts raced in her mind, and she kept looking down at the water, her fear growing with every passing second. If Ratface died, she'd never forgive herself.
no subject
"How is Ratface?" Both asked synchronously.
Gyro had fallen from the chair in shock but now pointed to a small bed in which the raven lay. For a fordable second Scrooge thought he was dead, so motionless he lay there. But then he saw that the small ribcage lifted and lowered very gently.
"Quick Magica! Do we have to prepare anything or does the pure water help?
no subject
"One spell ought to do it..." She then closed her eyes, murmuring a chant.
"Mexi Maxi Muxi Mife... This water, once dead, now brings thee to life!"
Wind picked up inside the house, and the water's color began to change several times, bubbling within the bottle. When it finally settled, she opened her eyes, and then quickly ran to Ratface's side.
"All right, drink it all up..." She then tilted it gently into Ratface's mouth, holding her breath.

He didn't really know what had happened. It was also not clear to him why the crazy inventor and especially Scrooge McDuck stood in the room. Gyro had little tears in his eyes but Scrooge's eyes were overflowing with tears of relief.
"We did it, we did it..." he repeated again and again, a liberated smile on his face.
no subject
But with every threat and insult, she couldn't stop smiling, even nuzzling her beak to smooth down some of Ratface's more unkempt feathers. "You'd better be thanking me, and Scrooge, and Gyro!" Which... oh, that reminds her. She was with people, wasn't she?
Magica cleared her throat, embarrassed she had made such a scene in front of Scrooge and Gyro. "Y-Yes, well... I suppose you both have my gratitude..."
no subject
Gyro wanted to know how things had gone in the underworld, but both Scrooge and Magica agreed that the less people knew about it, the better. So they said goodbye to the inventor. Even Scrooge wasn't so brash to let Gyro notice that something had changed between him and Magica. Especially not before he could discuss something with her.
Somewhat embarrassed they stood outside. "So... my plane is still with you at the Vesuvius... do you take me with you or do you want to be alone with Ratface? Then I pick it up another time..."
Now that there was no more danger to their lives, he tried to let Magica decide how fast they proceeded.
no subject
She huffed a bit, twirling some hair around her finger, still trying to put on airs. "Hmph... after all this time, you're still so foolish. Leaving me alone with your precious plane? Who knows what I'd do with it. If you had any smarts, you'd come with me, to at least make sure you'd get it back."
In fact, why trust her with the plane at all? She stuck her fingers in her beak, whistling for her broom, which obediently flew to her.
"Honestly, Scrooge... if you want to have any chance with me at all, you'd better wise up."
Maybe if he was wiser, he would've seen this coming - her grabbing a fistful of his jacket to kiss him deeply.
