Time had passed since Scrooge had purchased the haunted mansion - a long stretch of it. Magica had abandoned any sense of time-keeping ever since she had been locked away, but she knew it had to be a significant amount since Scrooge first stepped in. He made for an excellent servant, allowing her to stay updated with the rest of the world while they searched for the key. And his reward for his help... was to cut off the ties to his family and make him starve for attention.

She was not a nice lady.

But, as these things happen, the more she played with him, the more fascinated she became with him. He became less of a servant and more of a pet - she was aware of the irony, given her chosen form - and desire had started to stir. Soon she'd have her real body back, but when she was flesh and blood again, would those desires be returned? She certainly had no way of tempting him while looking like a pussy-cat. Thankfully she was a creative sort.

On one night of a full moon, she patiently waited for him to fall asleep. It wasn't the first time she used her magic to look into his dreams, but they had always been for research purposes - to know what to say to keep him isolated from others. Now would be a little... different. It would take a bit more force, perhaps make his morning wake seem more suspicious, but what was the point of living without a thrill every now and then?

A shining gold ballroom, where masks and elegance were everywhere to be seen. Some of the faces would be familiar to the old man, others were blurs behind disguises. Magica allowed him to bask in this setting at first, let him adjust, let him think everything was perfect and natural.

He enjoyed the chase - she knew this from what she'd seen of his memories with Goldie. So instead of immediately honing on him, she let herself merely "be" in the crowd. Let him find her. Let him see her. Let him decide.

Nobody was calling him for anything other than work. Despite what his family had said, the phone company (one of his) had sent out technicians and had a watch on the account. There were no outages mysteriously when his family wanted to call him.

As much as he likely shouldn't, it drove him to hunt more and more for the key to Magica's door if only as a distraction. At least Magica herself in the shadowy cat form provided some company.

His dreams hadn't been pleasant for quite some time either, constantly being forced to watch bad memories over and over again. At least this new setting was calming in that it wasn't the same nightmares.

He moved between the people he knew or at least knew of before stopping at the sight of a stranger.

"...Hello, I don't believe we've met."

The woman smiled at him, reaching up to lightly adjust the thin, white mask adorned over her beak. It didn't really hide who she was, but then, that was hardly the point. "Isn't that the point of these things?" She replied idly, waving one hand to the grand ceremony around them. "To never know who you're with?"

After a little chuckle, she offered her hand. "Maybe we met once upon a dream."

Scrooge took her hand in his, bending over it to kiss it.

"Perhaps we did."

Was this a dream? Perhaps, perhaps not. But at least the company was pleasant.

"Though I'm afraid you seem to know who I am. Seems like it'd spoil the fun for you, lassie."

Ever the gentleman. She lightly tugged on his fingers to draw him closer.

"Oh? And here I thought meeting the man of legend in the flesh would be much more fun... Are you saying the real you is such a disappointment?" She teased, smirking.

Scrooge moved closer to her, placing one hand on her waist as he lifted her hand. He pulled her into a slow dance with the music.

"Well, where's the fun in a masquerade ball when you know who your partner is but they don't know you?"

"Touche." She moved in time with him, never missing a beat, everything perfectly natural. Her touch was warm and inviting, letting the crowd fade away, like they never existed at all.

"Then, let's make it fair... what do you want to know?"

"I'd settle for your name for starters," Scrooge told her honestly. "A lovely lass like you has to have a beautiful name to go with it."

Laying on the charm a bit thick? Perhaps a little. However, there was nothing wrong with a little flattery, right?

There was something niggling at the back of his mind though. Something he needed to consider...

While it was tempting to give her real name for now, the slightest jostle in a dream could wake him up. So, for now...

"Call me Amelia." He never said it had to be the one she was born with. "I see all that silver you own comes with a silver tongue."

"Amelia. Its Latin root 'amal' meaning 'work'," Scrooge said, giving her a slow twirl in time with the music.

He should've realized things were far less claustrophobic, but he was too focused on Amelia to notice.

He chuckled. "Appropriate I found myself drawn to you then."

Magica could almost laugh. She hardly had to use any magic at all to win him over - he was a charmer by heart. "The best things in life are gained by hard work and effort... at least, that's what I've always believed."

Then, for a bit of tease, after the next twirl she pulled away from him slightly - just enough to give the impression that she could walk away, if she wasn't pulled back. Let him 'work', if he enjoyed it so much.

"Aye, that they are."

He pulled her back in, smiling teasingly at her.

"Or you're very good at telling me the things I like to hear. Not many people nowadays appreciate a hard day's work."

He then dipped her down.

"Now, what would I gain just by flattering you?" She murmured as she as dipped, stroking the underside of his beak with a finger. "What is it you think I want from you?"

Perhaps the tiniest bit of sprinkle to his mind, to anything that dared challenge this connection - everyone else wanted his money. His power. Everyone but her.

"My wealth. The power that comes with it," he pointed out. "You wouldn't be the first to try and make a connection this way."

Still...it'd be nice to be courted because he was Scrooge, not because he was the Richest Duck in the World. It'd be nice to be loved in any capacity that had nothing to do with his net worth...

Magica turned her head, as if insulted. "And what if I said I had more than enough of both?" Which was true, in a sense. "You don't have to believe me..."

She stood up straight, suddenly, right in his face, confronting him quietly. "...But I don't think you'd approach me, if you didn't think there was a chance."

Scrooge cocked an eyebrow at her before his beak twisted upwards in amusement.

"You, Amelia, are very interesting."

Most people would laugh and readily admit what he said was true. He was one of the oldest if not the oldest man alive. Of course anyone who wanted to court or be courted by him would be after his financial empire.

Hook, line, sinker.

"What can your wealth and power give me..." She raised a hand, playing with a few of his whiskers before sliding down to his chest. "... That you, right here, right now, can't?"

Scrooge shivered at how she toyed with his whiskers. Only a handful of people were allowed to do so. Very bold of her to do it on her own.

"Not much, I admit," Scrooge acknowledged.

He swung her out and then pulled her back in with a spin, making sure she ended up right up against him. The music was too slow for a proper tango, of course, but he did have a habit of bucking trends when he didn't find any good reason to stick with them. Besides, there was nothing wrong with the occasional flare.

Old age certainly hadn't done anything to his rhythm - although this was a dream, and he was probably as young as he felt. She kept up in time, moving slowly, sensually, making sure he saw everything he wanted to see and felt everything he wanted to feel - and more.

"Careful," she murmured, with a flutter of her eyelashes. "You're ruining all other dance partners for me."

"I hope you'll forgive my impertinence, Miss Amelia," he teased, slipping into the gentlemanly manners that had been so important over a hundred years ago.

"If you forgive mine," Magica leaned in, kissing his cheek, letting her hand roll down his chest enough to feel his heart beat.

"I doubt any man would think to deny you forgiveness for anything," he flattered shamelessly.

"Flattery will give you everything," No, it wasn't a mix-up of words. With her chest pressed to his and a whisper to his ear, "You seem so certain what I want from you... the question is... what do you want from me?"

"Despite all my wealth, my wants are simple: An evening with an enchanting lass is well worth it. These events are always so dull," Scrooge told her. "Besides, I have my...cat...to get back to."

Magica smirked. Did he know, or have a guess? Clever boy.

"And you don't think she'll mind you missing just one night...?" Her fingers slid up his arms around she was around his neck. "This evening doesn't have to end."

Actually, he had no idea this was a dream and she was his "cat". Magica making him increasingly more dependent on her company had shortened his leash quite a bit.

"I think I can spare a little while, but she'll be awful cross with me if I stay all night," Scrooge told her, leaning forward to boldly nuzzle the feathers of her neck.
