And I’ll face all the evils that our love will surely bring [scrooge x magica]
Experimental spells were called that for good reason - they weren't things one did without fully knowing and understand its powers. But Magica was many things when she had screamed that incantation - narcissistic and desperate, to start with. It turned out being all-powerful meant nothing when you weren't all-knowing, and the spell had backfired spectacularly. It was a sheer miracle she'd come out of unharmed... for the most part.
The injuries to her body looked worse than they really were, and given her magic, they'd heal quickly. The real issue was her head, as she hadn't woken up in days. Finally, mercifully, she began to wake up, though that in of itself felt like a long, painful process. It hurt just to open her eyes, and thus took her several attempts, the light in the room giving her a headache. She struggled, keeping at it, moaning quietly, her vision initially blurry.
When she could finally make her surroundings - or at least the ceiling, as she still didn't have the strength to move her head just yet - she didn't recognize it. This wasn't where she was supposed to be. She was supposed to be...
... Ah. Hm. Uh.
"Where... am I?"

"Fine. I need to get clothes, so I can't exactly put it off." It wasn't a surrender, as she wasn't happy with this, but they had to be practical. "But that should give you plenty of time to think about what I need to know. And if you chicken out at the room... I'll find a rusty spoon."

He led the way to a rather niece clothing shop. Nothing that would break the bank, but definitely not a department store. These clothes would definitely withstand quite a bit of wear and tear even if they weren't glitzy.

With a quiet huff, she began to sort through the selections. No big surprise, she tended to go towards black.

"How do I look?"
Why trust a mirror when a man's opinion was much more fun and less biased? After a quick change in the fitting room, she came to him wearing a form-fitting dress with slits for the legs and generous coverage for her cleavage. Dresses were far more comfortable and her style, with or without memories, so at least she kept her sense of style.

He knew Magica was a woman. However, it'd always been a sort of abstract concept. Yes, she was a woman. Yes, there were certain lines that should never be crossed because she was a woman.
But this was the first time he'd ever seen her as a woman and realized that she was also an attractive woman. (In all fairness, he was usually more concerned with keeping her from killing him.) It definitely gave him a start.
"A bit revealing, don't you think?" he asked awkwardly.
no subject
"Is that so bad?" Magica said with a smirk, hand on her hip. "I like it when I'm looked at. Or do you not like it when the woman you're with gets a lot of stares?"
no subject
"If you want to go flitting about in something like that, that's your business, but you're going to catch cold."
Though, honestly, it was his Victorian sensibilities having fits more than anything. He might have changed with the times, but some things would always stick with him though nowadays it was less about modesty and more about the fact that wearing next-to-nothing offered no protection from the cold and rain.

"But I'll keep this. Might as well get something we can both enjoy, since it's your money." She glanced back, grinning at the red in his cheeks.
Maybe the thing he wanted to tell her was...? Hm. Hmmm. She wouldn't exactly object, if it was the case, but there was plenty of evidence to say they were just friends.

Well, he was certainly red now. He groaned as he slumped down in his seat a little.
Maybe Magica really was faking everything and just doing this to torture him.
The shopkeeper would be taking care of adjustments, hemming and making sure everything fit properly. That would mean Magica would have to stand still as everything was pinned up to be properly sewn after she'd left. Scrooge trusted this place to have a runner to bring the packages to the hotel at no extra charge.

With the last thing exchanged and paid for, Magica was at his side again, eyeing him, the sultry act on pause. "... Shall we go back to the room?" Is it time to say everything?
no subject
With that, he led the way back to the hotel.

Were they this deep into each other's lives, that her knowing the truth affected him so deeply? A part of her said yes - even though she had nothing to base it on. As they came closer to the villa, her hand found his, mostly as a test to see what he'd do. He handled the arm hugging with little complaint before, but...?
no subject
What was on her mind? Likely what he was going to tell her.
He led the way to the private elevator, taking them up to the suite. He then sat her down in the living room in one of the plush chairs, turning another one to face her before sitting down.
"What I'm about to tell you isn't going to be easy to hear," he admitted. "I probably should've told you right away, but I couldn't bring myself to."
He took a deep breath and braced himself.
"I didn't lie when I said I didn't know much about your personal life, but I didn't tell you the whole truth: Before you lost your memory, you and I were enemies."
Which would explain why he'd been so grouchy upon her first waking: He'd been expecting a fight.

Enemies.
She blinked.
Blinked twice.
A rush of conclusions slammed into her head. The spell she was using, by this logic, was definitely against him, and intended to harm him, since it had harmed her by accident. If it succeeded, would he be the one without memories, or would he be hurt? Or worse? Either way, he wasn't surprised that she was trying to hurt him, and...
"... I tried to attack you, and you just bought me dinner and a whole wardrobe."
Either "enemies" was a fairly light term for what they were, or...
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!"

He blinked owlishly at her as he leaned back at the force of her yell.
"There was a method in my madness," he said, trying to recover the situation. "When I realized you weren't faking your amnesia, I also realized that the Magica I was watching over wasn't the one who attacked me. After all, you didn't have your old memories. It didn't feel right to just throw you to the wolves."
no subject
She was so upset she was on her feet, still yelling at him. "That spell nearly ended me, and here you are, strutting about town with your attacker on your shoulder - I FLIRTED WITH YOU LESS THAN AN HOUR AGO AND YESTERDAY I WAS TRYING TO HURT YOU!" Sweet merciful hexes, what was wrong with this man?! How did he become so rich by being this dumb?! How was he even alive NOW?

Now she was so angry she couldn't form a coherent sentence. She made several attempts, along with a lot of hand-gestures and stomping, but every time she tried to say something, she gave up before trying again. This happened several times, and if anyone had been looking in on this nonsense, they might've have assumed she lost her mind or had gone mute.
Thankfully that didn't go on forever, and she flopped back into her seat, frustrated beyond measure. "Why are we enemies?" Not a pitiful question made out of heartbreak, but a legitimate iniquiry - they got along for the most part all day, so what could have happened to change that? ... Aside from being a STUPID, STUPID MAN.

"You've had a blood feud with my clan for centuries. I basically inherited you as an enemy by virtue of me being the last of my clan."
no subject
"By the gods." She muttered, rubbing her temple. "So not only did you save your enemy, you saved your blood-sworn enemy and betrayed your family." This stupid, stupid man. Were they supposed to buy his whole "principles" act too?

A wave of her hand, "And what if you did get hurt because of this? How is your family supposed to react? I don't know you, Scrooge McDuck, but if you really care about your family all that much, then they must care about you too! It's a two-way street - they wouldn't want you in danger. You may have arrived here by yourself, but you're never alone."
Twenty-four hours earlier, Magica De Spell would have rolled her eyes about the idea of family loving each other.

"They'd manage just fine without me," he told her honestly. "It wouldn't be the first time they lived without me."
