It was more important to the family that they keep the bloodline strong and pure, and that meant matching Antoine up with another vampire from a noble family. Perhaps over a year ago, Antoine would have agreed. But things had changed, and despite his heart not beating, it was breaking.
Despite understanding his parents wishes, despite knowing Bunnie would be better off without him, despite the fact that a secret like this would destroy what little unity vampires had with mortals - despite all this, Antoine still waited in his gardens to see Bunnie again. Under the moonlight, it had become their secret meeting place.
