Shadow & Amy - Sudden Realization Of Love
5. You were arguing. I hate you! I LOVE you! Oops.
Following the Ultimate Lifeform was no easy task, but then Amy Rose rarely turned down a challenge, especially if she 'knew' she was right. It had all started with a single thought - she'd never seen Shadow the Hedgehog eat. She then became curious about his eating habits and his diet, and this jumped to worrying if he was eating properly at all. If he'd just answer a simple question or two, this would all be over and done with, but nooo. Shadow had to be difficult.
In today's latest struggle, she had a picnic basket in one hand, and was struggling not to summon her infamous mallet in the other. She had thought she saw the familiar glow of his 'chaos control' in the area, and she wasn't going to leave until A) he answered her questions, and/or B) ate something good for him. Her basket was loaded with fruits and vegetables, some sandwiches, and bottles of water. One had to be prepared in case this became a daily routine.
Maybe shouting his name wouldn't help matters, but desperate times call for desperate measures. "Shadow the hedgehog, you better stay right there!"

"...!" He freezes at the sound of his name, his ears twitching at the familiar —and overly loud— voice. Amy Rose? It's amazing how her voice traveled all the way to the roof! Shadow peeks from the top of a not obnoxiously tall building, spotting the petite pink hedgehog. Ah, what did she want now? She didn't seem to be in danger or anything... Maybe she only wanted him to find the blue furball or something. That mere thought made him roll his eyes.
"What is it?" He barks at her, how dared she bother him in the middle of his secret stuff?!
no subject
"I... have a present for you." Which technically wasn't a lie, she did have stuff to give him. "So you need to stay right there! ... Or come down to me." Which honestly would be a lot easier. "Either way, we're meeting up, so that's that!" Without waiting to hear his response, she headed for the building, intending to find the stairs and make her way to the top.
no subject
Ah, but she's so determined to reach him already, that something impulses him to simply jump down to where she is instead. Huh. So much for trying to make her life a little harder...
It would have taken her too long to get up there anyway, making him waste his time! Yes, what a good excuse that one was.
Upon reaching the ground, he crosses his arms upon his fluffy chest, looking at her, his whole demeanor just yells, I'm waiting! He just needs to start tapping his foot on the ground to look like Sonic, really.

"Well, I've never seen you eat, so I was wondering if you were getting all your proper nutrients!" She thought she sounded awfully smart. "I brought you a bunch of yummy and healthy foods to eat, and you can tell me all about your diet! I want every last detail."
no subject
His eyes widen for a split second at her reasoning. Was she truly worried about that?
...
How stupid! He gives the basket a stare, and then...
"I don't need to eat, Rose." Of course she didn't know that, how could she, they barely ever talked without it ending in shouts and screams, but he's sure to make it sound like if he had told her several times before!
no subject
... BIG JERK.
"Hey!" She countered, pushing the basket forward. "First off, my name is Amy, call me Amy! And secondly, everyone needs to eat! At least take a look, I worked hard on this!"
no subject
Shadow opens his mouth to retort about it. About her name being also Rose! About how he truly didn't need to eat! But he stops—no words come from him at her last sentence. She worked hard on this?
"Hmph..." He couldn't just not say anything though, but lifts the napkin inside the basket taking a look at all that food. Ah... It smelled nice... There is fruit, he does like fruit... it's sweet and juicy and... And she didn't make it! But she carried it around all the time, looking for him... The basket was a little heavy, he had to notice.
Aw man, now he feels a little guilty and he doesn't like it! This is all her fault! No one asked her to do anything! Instead of thanking her, he gives her a bit of a glare.
"You shouldn't have." Waaaaait for it... "You've only wasted your time."
no subject
Amy dared to hope he was going to be thankful... and again had her hopes dashed.
"Oooh, you... you...!" Her fists clenched, still somewhat urging to grab her hammer. "I'm trying to do something for you, and that's what you have to say? You had better take this home with you, and you'd better eat every single in there!"
no subject
This is so confusing... Amy had to be even harder to understand than Rouge! And that was saying something! She usually just let it go, albeit, she was almost as practical as him, or maybe... It suddenly occurs to him that maybe people had to get used to him, changed their ways to be able to be around him. It wasn't that they understood, they just didn't care enough to keep trying.
Not Amy. If he recalled correctly, most of their stupid fights had started the same way, with her worrying, with her trying. And there she was again, worrying and trying...
"Why?" Seriously? Was that the best he could come up with?
no subject
Now she was the one tapping her foot impatiently. "If you got sick because you were being stubborn, that would be embarrassing for everyone."
no subject
"Because I like knowing every single thing behind your reasonings." It's a bit of a realization, truly. But if he thought about it a bit more, it helped him to understand her better, maybe he didn't like to fight with her all the time!
"If I got sick, would you take care of me?" Yes, yes he really is asking it, to his surprise even, that little smirk never wavering.
no subject
... Huh. Even that has to make her pause for a moment, eyes darting away in thought. It had come out without thinking too hard. Well... well was it really so shocking? He was a friend (sort of), and she cared about all her friends (technically), so logic would dictate that if a friend was sick she would take care of them. Yes, there was no shock there, so she resumed her haughty look easily.
"I know you would hate it, but I don't care."
no subject
Hate it? That's where she was wrong. Sometimes... sometimes he just wished he could get a break, he wasn't exactly sure if he would hate it or not, she was pretty loud at times...
"Ah? Since when do you know me so well?" And just to prove her wrong, he offers the basket back. He might just be teasing her! But Shadow being Shadow, one could never be too sure.

She wasn't going to leave him alone if he didn't show he cared, was she?
Maybe he didn't want her to leave him alone...
...
Oh.
Well, despite of their constant fighting, Amy wasn't entirely disgusting to be around. She always managed to make him feel something. Anger, most of the time, he wasn't going to deny it, but whenever she would smile for whatever reason... The sun wasn't as bright.
He doesn't utter a word, but he actually looks into the basket, carefully choosing something—are those strawberries? He picks one, and takes a bite. It was so sweet! It had obviously been chosen to perfection! Too bad Amy wasn't looking!
no subject
"Fine!" Her voice was breaking. "If you want to starve or be sick or whatever, go ahead! See if I care! But I'm not giving all my hard work to an ungrateful, stupid..." She trailed off as she finally looked at him again, and saw him chewing.
Whoops.
no subject
He finally swallows, savoring that sweetness for as long as he could. Maybe he could indulge himself with another...? Ah hell, there he goes, grabbing another of those perfect strawberries.
"Oh, please, go on." And he bites it. He might not only be enjoying the berry, but also Amy's confusion.
no subject
"... Sorry." She mumbled, twisting her ankle about. "I, um... I'm glad you like them."
no subject
"Don't be ridiculous—" Again, waaaaait for it. "You have nothing to apologize for." He had to look away when he says that, but then, he clears his throat and...
"Since you were so kind to bring me this offering... I will grant you one wish." He said as he bowed at Amy. Was he even serious? Maybe...
no subject
What could she wish for that he could grant? If she wished for him to stop being so obnoxious, the fight would ensue all over again. She bit her lip, and decided to be honest with him.
"I just wish you'd take care of yourself."
no subject
Shadow gave her a perplexed stare.
"You truly are weird." Notice that he wasn't saying he wouldn't do it or at least try! But it made him wonder, wasn't he taking enough care of himself?
no subject
"Maybe just a little." She replied, rocking back and forth on her feet. "... You can keep the basket, even when it's emptied."
no subject
no subject
"You're welcome." She chirped, despite knowing full well she wouldn't get the thank you. "Just don't eat everything at once, or you'll get the ultimate stomachache."
no subject
"Amy--!" Don't go!
