quick drabble - kokichi and mikan

Kokichi Ouma lied as easily as other people breathed – and as a result, most of Wonderland didn't quite care for him. The boy found this amusing, considering that Wonderland had such resident as vampires, monsters, murders, and all sorts of ghoulish delights – to put him above all that? What an honor.

But the one person who never seemed to get angry at him, even for the most disgusting and grievous of lies, was Mikan Tsumiki. No matter what he said or what he did, she'd never so much as raise her voice at him. If anything, she blamed herself for his actions – for everyone's actions, if it was possible. At first it was funny. Then it got annoying. Then frustrating.

An event came – as events tend to do – and this one was relatively harmless compared to others. Death wasn't permanent in this magical place, but now for those who had died, the wounds had reappeared, yet no matter how much they bled, the person wouldn't die. Kokichi hadn't died, so he felt bored, left out of the shenanigans. Maybe he could pass the time by harassing Mikan and telling her his latest fib.

The door to the clinic was closed. How unusual. He knocked twice. “Oi, Mikaaan. I have a stomachache.” He didn't.

A pause. “One moment, p-please?”

“It really hurrrts.”

Shuffling. The door opened – Mikan stood there, wearing a gigantic fluffy winter's coat, which was the second thing he noticed. The first was the gaping bullet wound in her forehead. The third was the blood dripping from beneath the coat, indicating there was another wound she was trying to hide. She swallowed, and tried to act as if nothing was wrong. “When did the stomachache start?”

He went silent.

“... I-It's really nothing. Honest! They're... long stories, and misunderstandings... events, you know how they happen.”

His jaw clenched. “Who-”

“I won't tell you. Please. Just... have a seat, and I'll give you a check-up-”

He turned on his heel and left, even as he heard Mikan calling after him. He ignored the calls from her on his device. He stayed in his room for the rest of the day.

Kokichi Ouma lied easily. Lied often. And detested liars most of all.

Funny. Why didn't he detest Mikan?
